More details are coming out about the results of ABC’s research into The View’s hosts. US Weekly alleged Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving The View because viewer research found her “too extreme and right wing”, a claim Barbara Walters denies. Now, in a article published by The Hollywood Reporter, it seems the audience study may have found both Hasselbeck and Joy Behar polarizing.
Longtime panelists Behar and Hasselbeck on the left and right, respectively, were deemed too "polarizing," according to several sources. "They're out of sync with the audience," notes one source.
THR points out,
It's unclear when the co-hosts were made aware of the research, but on March 7, Behar, 70, announced that she will exit View after 16-plus years at the end of her contract this summer.
Is she staying or is she going? On today's episode of The View, series creator and executive producer Barbara Walters denied Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on her way out. Said Babs:
"There is a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up about Elisabeth's alleged departure, saying that we don't approve of her conservative views. The truth is we love Elisabeth. I like her personally and she's just a wonderful person. But beyond that, we value and appreciate her point of view because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance. ... So we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show."
Us Weekly isn't the only infotainment organization hearing Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being axed at The View. Media Bistro's TV Newser blog is citing two sources claiming the reality-star-turned-conservative-talking-head is out.
Of course, this wouldn't be an ABC Daytime story without citing a contract as a way to deny shocking, behind-the-scenes goings-on. Said a Mouse House spokesperson to TV Newser:
“Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of ‘The View’ and has a long term contract.” READ MORE
What the h-e-double-hockey-sticks is going on at ABC Daytime's once insurmountable chatfest The View? First Joy Behar announces her departure; now US Weekly is reporting Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been fired for being "too extreme and right wing". From the article:
"The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing," the insider tells Us. "People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."
It's the end of an era for The View. Deadline is reporting original panelist Joy Behar is departing after over 16 years on the ABC chatfest.
Behar’s contract is reportedly set to expire in August, and she's already told the brass at ABC she won't be renewing it. Said Behar in a phone call to Deadline:
"You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?" READ MORE
