CBS This Morning's Debut Ratings Improve Over The Early Show

Here’s a glimmer of good news for the Tiffany network’s perennial third place morning show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, since its launch, the ratings for CBS This Morning have improved a bit over those earned by The Early Show.

CBS This Morning averaged, 2.7 million viewers for the week ending Jan. 13, the program's first full week on the air. That marks a gain of 5 percent compared to the network’s average in December (excluding the holiday week).

Crystal Chappell Co-Hosts 25th Annual Emery Awards

Former Days of Our Lives and Guiding Light star Crystal Chappell co-hosted the 25th Annual Emery Awards with Good Morning America’s Sam Champion on November 10. The event, held at Cipriani Wall Street, honored Ralph Lauren’s Charles Fagan, Newark, NJ Mayor Cory Booker and Macy’s.  The yearly celebration is thrown by the Hetrick-Martin Institution, which helps provide empowerment, education and advocacy for LGBTQ young people age 12-24 and their families. Charlie Rose and Gayle King to Join The Early Show

CBS has tried pretty much everything to make The Early Show competitive with NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America, with little luck. Now it’s changing things up once again. According to the New York Times, Charlie Rose and Gayle King are joining The Early Show, which will focus on hard news. Reportedly, the show’s new format will take a page from MSNBC’s Morning Joe and ABC’s The View and be more conversational.

The plan calls for Mr. Rose, who has contributed in the past to the network’s most popular program, “60 Minutes,” to help lead the 7 a.m. hour with Ms. Hill, who joined CBS from CNN in early 2010. READ MORE

CBS Shakes Up The Early Show

CBS is cleaning house at The Early Show once again. According to the Associated Press, Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez are out as anchors and Dave Price is being replaced. Chris Wragge and Erica Hill, who currently anchor The Saturday Early Show, will take over as anchors. Marysol Castro replaces Price at the weather desk.

The new The Early Show team makes its debuts on January 3.

This Week in Daytime: Snubs, Lovers and Recasts

 

This Week in Daytime,

I choked at some of the people snubbed by the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy nominations. I realize there are only so many people who can be nominated in each category, not to mention sometimes less-than-stellar submission reels and backstage politics playing factors, but Stacy Haiduk, Alison Sweeney, Laura Wright, Maurice Benard, Sharon Case, Scott Evans, Brett Claywell and Ron Carlivati and the One Life to Live writing team all deserved nominations. There is absolutely no justification for that hack Chuck Pratt getting a nomination for almost destroying All My Children. Just once I’d like to see a nomination list that didn’t make me go “huh???” A pipe dream I know. READ MORE
