For eons, the phrase, "it's only my opinion", has had the power to cause a struggling soap starlet to shake beneath her extensions and falsies. Now it's Carolyn Hinsey's turn to be a dreaded newbie!
I caught up with the Soap Opera Digest columnist as she preps for her acting debut on the highly-anticipated soap-within-a-soap Tainted Dreams. Is Hinsey ready for her closeup?
Daytime Confidential: You've served as the go-to soap expert on numerous countdown specials, celebrity magazine shows and on SOAPnet's talk shows. Is it different to play a scripted version of yourself?
Carolyn Hinsey: Yes, because I had to remember lines written by someone else, although I did tweak them to sound more like me. It's much easier being a soap expert: I just have to spin the soap rolodex in my brain and try not to swear.
One Life to Live’s Marnie Schulenburg, former Guiding Light star Grant Aleksander and General Hospital andDays of Our Lives favorite Natalia Livingston were among the soap stars on set for Tainted Dreams’ first week in production. Check out more photos after the jump! READ MORE
The Young and the Restless and One Life to Live alum Nathan Purdee is returning to the world of soaps, but this time he’s doing it on the web. Purdee, best known for his roles on as the original Nathan Hastings on Y&R and D.A. Hank Gannon on OLTL, is set to star in Tainted Dreams.
Purdee will play Ethan Washington, the president of daytime network television. All My Children supporting producer and Tainted Dreams showrunner, Sonia Blangiardo stated:
I needed someone with gravitas and experience playing strong, uber-confident men, and Nathan Purdee was at the top of my list. We are very fortunate to have Nathan join our cast. The character of ‘Ethan Washington’ is overconfident, never in doubt, a real force to be reckoned with, feared by other executives, actors, and crew. READ MORE
Add soap alum Bobbie Eakes to the growing cast of Tainted Dreams. The daytime drama thespian will star in the soap-within-a-soap as Courtney Parish, the wife of Eddie Parrish (James DePaiva) and the Vice-President of Daytime programming. According to showrunner and creator of Tainted Dreams, Sonia Blangiardo, Parris is described as a,
strong, powerful and well-respected until one split-second decision changes everything.
One Life to Live fan favorites James DePaiva, Ilene Kristen and Tonja Walker are heading back to soapdom! All three have signed on to star in the upcoming web dramedy Tainted Dreams.
DePaiva, best known for his role as hustling scoundrel Max Holden on OLTL, will star as Eddy Parish, a "hard-working, NYC cop married to a high-profile, powerful network executive". Kristen will play Vivian Park, the estranged mother of the soap star Liza Park (Natalia Livingston). Walker will portray Eddy's no-nonsense sister-in-law, high-powered attorney Tina Scott. It sounds like this show is shaping up to be a ballgame!
Another soap fan favorite is making a comeback. All My Children and The Edge of Night alum Larkin Malloy has been added to the expanding cast of the upcoming web soap, Tainted Dreams.
Malloy will play Henry Steinman, a director on the fictional drama Painted Dreams. Tainted Dreams’ executive producer Sonia Blangiardo stated:
Henry Steinman’ is the most politically incorrect director in the history of Daytime…truly the ‘Archie Bunker’ of the soap genre. Whatever crosses ‘Henry’s’ mind comes out of his mouth…in the most inappropriate way possible,” and Blangiardo grins, “Before you ask, yes, Larkin and I may have known a real-life director who might allegedly fit this description.” READ MORE
