Kate Nelson, the Brian Frons henchwoman who failed to rebrand SOAPnet as the "Carrie Network" or "Disney Mom, has be fired, according to sources. With SOAPnet set to go off the air next month—and eventually morph into Disney Junior— the cabler's current operations are being folded in under ABC Family.
It is official. According to TV Guide Magazine, SOAPnet departs cable and satellite systems on March 23 and will be replaced by Disney Junior March 23. As previously reported last year, Mickey Mouse made the decision to axe the soap channel in favor of a 24/7 preschool channel. According to Disney Channels Worldwide president and CEO Gary Marsh:
This marks the beginning of a sea change in the 'preschool plus' television landscape. The response to our Disney Junior programming block has been extremely positive.
I guess they haven't talked to soap fans. This news comes during the same week One Life to Live finally takes a bow after being on air for 43 years.
Just before ABC turns the lights off on All My Children and they ride off into the Prospect Park sunset, SOAPNet will air a 48 hour marathon of your favorite romances and Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) moments. Starting Sept. 17 at 7, the network will kick things off with "I Love Lucci" a five-episode marathon of some of Erica's most memorable storylines. READ MORE
With the end of All My Children on ABC rapidly approaching, SOAPnet has unveiled its upcoming scheduling for after September 23. According to Soap Opera Digest, SOAPnet is axing Ryan’s Hope reruns and adding Brothers & Sisters–which ABC cancelled this spring–to its daily schedule.
