Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars Recap: "Crazy"

This week’s Pretty Little Liars involved an unexpected romance, character’s blatantly (and recklessly) breaking the law, and a lot of new mysteries.

Maya’s cousin Nate proclaimed to be smitten with Jenna.  He told Emily (Shay Mitchell) he’d actually perfer her, but “she’s” gay. He wanted her to help him pick something nice out for Jenna as a present.  Emily’s uncomfortable because Jenna’s super shady, but she doesn’t know how to tell him.  Emily tried though, and revealed Jenna’s ex is Garrett.  This only made Nate like Jenna more, however, since now he felt he had to protect her from Big Bad Garrett.  READ MORE

Pretty Little Liars Recap: "The Remains of the A"

On this week’s Pretty Little Liars our girls set a trap to catch A.  Did they succeed?  (Sigh.  Do they ever?)  Plus, one of our favorite characters from the beginning started acting shifty…

Hanna (Ashley Benson) switched Garrett’s note about April Rose to one about meeting in the abandoned church that night.  Unfortunately, the church wasn’t abandoned. It was throwing the lamest mixer ever.  The plan was to send A to this fake meeting so they could get a look at him or her.  Emily was supposed to help/ Toby was even used as a pawn to throw off suspicion.  Unfortunately, smarmy Det. Wilden showed up instead, claiming to have intercepted the note.  He got all up in Hanna’s face and creepily demanded to know why she was helping Garrett, but she played dumb.  READ MORE

Why YA Novel Series The Luxe Should be Adapted as a Soap Opera

Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl.  That’s the “nutshell” premise for a show based on Anna Godbersen’s YA book series, The Luxe.  Would this premise intrigue you enough to watch its potential television adaptation?

The Luxe series includes four books published from 2007 through 2009.  In addition to being well-received by readers, the series has garnered generally positive reviews among critics, with The Luxe even spending time on the New York Times Bestsellers list.

The first novel focuses on the elite of New York society around the turn of the 20th century, and their help, including numerous social climbers.  At the center of it all is the beautiful Elizabeth Holland, and her free-spirited younger sister, Diana.  The Hollands have never recovered from the death of their patriarch, and Mrs. Holland is quickly trying to marry her eldest to a wealthy suitor.  The extremely prominent Henry Schoonmaker is a bit of a reckless playboy, which troubles his father because he has political ambitions.  He desires to clean up Henry’s reputation by marrying him to the image of propriety, Elizabeth, to the pleasure of Mrs. Holland.  READ MORE
