Good Morning America
Popular Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts fell ill, while vacationing in Key West recently. The TV journalist broke the news herself to fans via Facebook. Posted Roberts:
My heart continues to go out to the remarkably strong people of Boston. We stand by you now and always.
It saddens me that I haven't been able to join my colleagues in covering this important story.
Last week, in the middle of my Key West vacation, I began not to feel well. Nothing serious, just under the weather. I contacted my doctors and flew back to NYC. They felt it best to admit me into the hospital for a few days. Seems my young immune system needed a little boost to fight off "opportunistic infections".
My doctors assured me that this was NOT because I was working or doing too much, too soon. It's extremely common, post bone marrow transplant, to have complications. I'm blessed that mine have not been severe.
I'm feeling MUCH better, and will relax at home for the rest of the week. I'll be back on GMA next week...as my sweet momma would say: "Good Lord willing, and the creek don't rise!"
Miss you and bless you..XO
Country crooner Brad Paisley is catching a lot of flack for one particular song on his latest CD, Wheelhouse. In "Accidental Racist", Paisley and duet partner LL Cool J tackle racial tensions between a white Southerner and a black man from the North. Didn't In The Heat of the Night (the movie and TV show) already take care of this subject?
Here's a snippet of the song's lyrics:
I’m just a white man comin’ to you from the south land tryin’ to understand what it’s like not to be.
I’m proud of where I’m from but not everything we’ve done. It ain’t like you and me can rewrite history.
Our generation didn’t start this nation. We’re still pickin’ up the pieces, walkin’ on eggshells, fightin’ over yesterday.
Caught between southern pride and southern blame.
Paisley has taken to the daytime talk show circuit to explain the track, which has everyone debating heatedly. Personally, I think this is exactly what the late Dr. Martin Luther King foretold. We've finally reached the day when all of God's children, black men and white men, can team up to make a really awful song. Watch Paisley's appearances on Ellen and Good Morning America after the jump!
ABC’s Good Morning America has a firm grip on its new throne as the king of the morning show wars. GMA was the No. 1 morning program during the first quarter of 2013 in both total Viewers (5.389 million) and among adults 25-54 (2.026 million), according to Nielsen Media Research.
Good Morning America host Robin Roberts announced she will return to work on Feb. 20, five months after undergoing a bone marrow transplant to treat her Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Roberts stated:
What a difference a year makes. I cannot wait to return to my GMA family. It's going to be an incredible morning in Times Square. The overwhelming thoughts and prayers of the viewers have played a major part in getting me here today. I cannot thank everyone enough.
In the weeks leading up to Roberts’ return, GMA will showcase stories of people who are also battling MDS, and those who Roberts has motivated through her struggle. Roberts will also discuss her illness and treatment on a special edition of 20/20 on Feb. 22, which will feature those who were inspired by her public battle.
Robin Roberts appeared live on Monday’s Good Morning America, announcing her plans to return to the show within “a matter of weeks, not months.” Her co-hosts clapped and cheered the news, as she explained the process she would go through to get herself back into her Good Morning America routine.
“I’m so happy to be sharing this news with everybody,” Roberts said. “We’re going to take it step by step…I’m listening to my doctors. I’m taking everything into account but this is a next step and I’m so excited to be sharing it with everyone.”
