Good Afternoon America
Could Robin Roberts be the next celeb-friendly journalist to attempt a daytime talk show? The Good Morning America anchor tells Broadcasting & Cable no, but that isn't stopping the industry rumor mill from buzzing over talk of another planned GMA spinoff.
From the report:
ABC News has made no secret of its desire to elevate its GMA franchise further. But in a statement to B&C, Roberts said a new show for her is not on the table: "No one is developing any show for me nor are discussions being had to that effect. I am 100% focused on my health and anchoring GMA, now and in the future." READ MORE
Josh Elliott reportedly isn't winning the Mr. Popularity contest on the set of Good Morning America, according to Page Six. A show insider allegedly leaked this tidbit to the New York Post column:
“Josh yells at staffers, including his own writers, saying things like, ‘Who the [bleep] wrote this?’ — while he is miked-up, so everyone in the studio can hear.” READ MORE
Good Afternoon America FLATLINES; Summer Talk Show Off One Life to Live's W18-49 Demos by 70 PERCENT!By Jamey Giddens on August 10, 2012
Sorry, ABC News division. Your plot to permanently snatch up an hour of ABC's daypart from Time Square Studios is seeming less likely to come to fruition with each passing ratings cycle. Good Morning America may be breaking records, but its spinoff vehicle continues to lay a smelly, rotten egg on the ABC afternoon lineup. Think of it as Baywatch Nights to Baywatch. According to TV Media Insights, Good Afternoon America was down 57 percent—during the most recent Nielsens cycle—from One Life to Live's numbers among the coveted women 18-49 demo year-to-date.
The limited-run series, which replaced OLTL's successor The Revolution, was watched by just 1.7 million total viewers the week in question. That's 39 percent less than the number of folks who were tuning in for the scripted shenanigans of Viki, Dorian, Blair and Todd last year. READ MORE
I smell another skunk for ABC in its attempt to come up with cheap, unscripted programming for its daypart. Only this time, ABC Daytime can breathe a sigh of relief. The latest stinker, Good Afternoon America, didn't come from their ranks. This slung together mess is the handiwork of ABC News! READ MORE
The peeps over at Soaps In Depth are drawing a line in the daytime viewing sand when it comes to ABC's "limited run" talk show Good Afternoon America. The publication's passionate executive editor Richard M. Simms has gone on record about the spin off of Good Morning America and why he feels it is a direct threat to ABC's sole soap opera General Hospital. Said Simms:
"If fans want to keep GENERAL HOSPITAL on the air, they need to make sure a clear message is sent to ABC," says Soaps In Depth executive editor Richard M. Simms. "Although GAA is being talked-up as a limited-run series to bridge the gap between THE REVOLUTION's demise and the premiere of Katie Couric's new program, ABC has proven that they'll happily pull the plug on a soap if they can replace it with something that's cheaper to produce."
