Did NBC approach Anderson Cooper about assuming the lead anchor job on Today, or not? Deadline says they did. However, NBC is denying the blog's report to The Hollywood Reporter. So is a reported source close to Cooper.
According to the article, NBC cops to approaching Cooper, but not for Matt Lauer's job. Here's a quote from Peacock suit Alexandra Wallace:

Katie pulled in the best ratings of a new talk show premiere since Dr. Phil with a 2.8 household rating. The Talk went makeup free to entice viewers into watching and earned a 37 percent increase year-over-year. However, Ellen’s premiere scored a 3.0 in households, making it very clear she isn’t going to be pushed aside by newcomers or stunts. According to E!, Ellen’s demos were even better.
Even better was Ellen's dominance in the women 25-54 demo, scoring a 2.2 rating in the ever-important demo, a vast important over last season's 1.3 rating.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dr. Oz earned a 2.8 with its fourth season premiere and the format change of Anderson Cooper’s talk show helped Anderson Live gain “18 percent over a year ago.”
Anderson Cooper's daytime chatfest is getting an overhaul for its second season. According to Deadline, Anderson will now be called Anderson Live and feature rotating co-hosts with its new live structure.
The sophomore talk show will also move from Lincoln Center's The Allen Room to the Broadcast Center in New York, which was previously home to the now defunct Nate Berkus Show. In a released statement, new co-executive producer Terence Noonan said:
Being live plays to Anderson’s strengths, providing immediacy and topicality, which allows us to talk about what is going on in the world.
