Emmy Producer James Romanovich on How ATWT Cancellation Affects Awards
By Jamey Giddens on December 09, 2009
36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards telecast producer James Romanovich has the following statement on how As The World Turns' cancellation will affect next year's telecast.
A few weeks ago I made the announcement that ATI would be picking up our option to produce the next Daytime Emmys which means that we have agreed to enter negotiations. I stated how well the soaps have rebounded through 2009 and I still believe that. Then came the shocker that As the World Turns was cancelled. Yes, I too was shocked although I should have known better since I get all the numbers and inside news. I actually bought into the rumors flying left and right that ATWT’s ratings were so good that CBS was going to offer another contract. The reality was only partially true. The soap’s ratings were up and creatively they seemed to have hit a stride. But there was never going to be a contract. Like Guiding Light before it, the die was cast.
ATI Activates its 2010 Daytime Emmy Option
By Luke Kerr on November 29, 2009
Jim Romanovich, ATI president of Worldwide Media and Entertainment, has revealed to We Love Soaps it has activated its option to produce the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2010.
And so…because of this renewed vigor and faith in the genre, we have activated our option to produce The 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2010.But what does that mean? Well, not much. But it’s a start!
What it means is that after months of careful deliberation, we have committed ourselves on paper to produce next year’s event. This was all based on the caveat of two things:
1. That the daytime genre, especially the soaps, are collectively strong enough and want this to continue.
2. That we can top what we did this past August-including the venue.
The answers to both are yes. And no it’s not a moneymaker for us.

Barbara Walters Gives Belated Emmy Acceptance Speech
By Luke Kerr on September 09, 2009
The 13th season of The View kicked off yesterday, without co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and the ladies brought their "bundles of joy"–their Daytime Emmys–with them. Barbara made a little acceptance speech, thanking her co-hosts, but made the point that she didn't understand how they could win as best hosts and not be nominated for best show saying "I guess the academy thinks we are the best hosts of a not so terrific show." I wonder what Rosie O'Donnell thinks of their win?
Meghan McCain is today's first guest co-host of the season. READ MORE
