Ian Buchanan Remembers "Exciting" and "Wild" Time as GH's Duke Lavery

We Love Soaps' visited with soap vet Ian Buchanan about his time as one of daytime's favorite characters, General Hospital's Duke Lavery.

We Love Soaps: Your three years on GENERAL HOSPITAL were quite intense in terms of your screen time and fan reaction. Duke and Anna were a fan phenomenon. What was it like for you, as someone who had moved so much, to suddenly be in the center of this storm?

Ian Buchanan: I don’t think I fully understood it. Even now I don’t. I didn’t really enjoy the attention. I remember doing some of the appearances and it was so overwhelming. It was a little too much for where I was at in my own mind, in my own development. I was always very curious about people, looking at people, watching people, and then that starts. Then you’re only trying to get people not to look at you, that was my focus. It was exciting, it was wild. The workload was intense, but I loved it. Finola and I would get on a redeye on a Friday, go some place to do an appearance on a Saturday, and fly back.

Last Week's B&B: Mud Wrestling Ladies And An Evil Twin!

Is it misogynistic to have Taylor and Brooke mud wrestling over waffling Ridge? Yes. Is it entertaining, and is B&B getting a hell of a lot better? Oh yes! It made me laugh. Normally, I just bang my head against the nearest hard surface until I forget all about Rick and Ridge’s rooftop brawls, Steffy and Rick’s insipid romance, and Donna’s honey-drenched bazongas up in Honey Bear’s face. The writers have been putting things right for a while now, and it seems like they’re finally onto a winning streak. READ MORE

Wishful Casting: Finola Hughes as Lesley-Anne Down's Sister on Bold and Beautiful

(Photo Credit for Finola Hughes ABC; Photo Credit for Lesley-Anne Down Reuters)

While watching and— for a change— thoroughly enjoying The Bold and the Beautiful this week, I can't help but think how great it is to see Ian Buchanan onscreen again as Dr. James Warrick. I think all soaps should have more British people. They just class up the joint! Before serving as B&B's answer to Dr. Phil, James had a storied history with the Women Forrester, including an attempted romance with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), and a shared attraction with Stephanie (Susan Flannery).

Who could forget James being deflowered by fellow psychiatrist Dr. Taylor Hayes (Hunter Tylo) at Big Bear? Obviously Ridge (Ron Moss) has, since he sent not one, but both of his less-than-merry wives up to the cabin with the shrink this week. READ MORE

Taylor And Brooke - The Mud Bath Fight!

Yes, you read that right. Today, Taylor and Brooke fight in a mud bath under the watchful gaze of LA's finest quack, Dr. James Warwick. I can't decide if this is hilariously camp or dementedly demeaning. I mean, really, how much will both women endure to win the love of Ridgiculous?
