LIVE BLOGGING: The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards

Hello everyone! My name is Melodie and I'll be live-blogging The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards tonight! We'll begin promptly at 7C/8E. I hope everyone is excited as I am for the program. In the meantime, feel free to drop me a line in the comments about your favorites to win.

And Awwaaayy We Go!

We start with a Wayne Brady package! Since when does he not have any hair? Anywho, the Jabawockeez start the show. I'm guessing it's because they have a show in Vegas. I like them, but it's a little jarring to see them on the Emmys. Wayne just put on a mask and gives us his best dance moves. Now, they hit us with the required Las Vegas package. Moving on.

Insert Sarcasm: Everyone looks so thrilled to be there. Half the doggone on crowd isn't clapping. It's like everyone is like "Ok, let's start this!" So, why did Regis, Meredith and Oprah retiring all get mentioned before One Life to Live and All My Children being cancelled? I would think the shows that have been on for 40+ years should get first mention, but I digress. READ MORE

Daytime Emmys Honor Agnes Nixon with Lifetime Achievement Award

All My Children and One Life to Live creator Agnes Nixon will be honored this year at the Daytime Emmy Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced that Agnes Nixon, the grand dame of Daytime serial drama, will receive the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.

A grand dame she surely is. Ms. Nixon created two daytime dramas that will always be a memory of my lifetime. It’s a much deserved and long overdue honor.

Daytime Emmys to be Held in June

We may not know if the 2010 Daytime Emmys will be televised, but it looks as if we're getting closer to finding out the exact date the ceremony will be held. ATI's James Romanovich tells TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco in this week's Soapgeist that the ceremony will take place in June.

Speaking of the Daytime Emmys, ATI’s James Romanovich tells Soapgeist that NATAS will hold the ceremony sometime in June —whether they air or not.

ATI Activates its 2010 Daytime Emmy Option

Jim Romanovich, ATI president of Worldwide Media and Entertainment, has revealed to We Love Soaps it has activated its option to produce the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2010.

And so…because of this renewed vigor and faith in the genre, we have activated our option to produce The 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2010.

But what does that mean? Well, not much. But it’s a start!

What it means is that after months of careful deliberation, we have committed ourselves on paper to produce next year’s event. This was all based on the caveat of two things:

1. That the daytime genre, especially the soaps, are collectively strong enough and want this to continue.

2. That we can top what we did this past August-including the venue.

The answers to both are yes. And no it’s not a moneymaker for us.
