Cheers & Jeers
Today marked the anniversary of the death of Katherine Chancellor's ex-husband and Jill's lover, Phillip Chancellor II . He died at the hands of Katherine, who drove off a cliff in a drunken rage. She was invoked in rage by the affair Phillip was having with Jill, Kay's then manicurist, maid and hairdresser. Needless to say, Jill resents Katherine to this day for killing her true love.
Jill does have one thing to remind her of Phillip II and that is his son, Phillip Chancellor III. To make a long story short, Phillip III died in the 80's but not really because Katherine switched the babies when he was born thus enter Cane.
Naturally, Cane wanted to know more about his father today. However, Jill and Kay were to busy doing what they do best: Arguing. This didn't sit to well with Cane and he proceeded to let the two have it. Check out this great You Tube clip of Cane telling Kay and Jill about themselves.
I realized something while I was watching OLTL over the weekend. I realized it is much easier to bitch about a soap than it is to praise a soap. (I also realized Todd Manning is a even worse father than Sonny
Corinthos but that's another post.) I can think off 1100 ways to say a show sucks but all I can say about OLTL is f*****g awesome. I can't even come up with another euphemism for the f word. That's how over the top awe inspiring this last week and a day has been.
I'm gonna be totally honest with ya'll. I was prepared to hate this Starr and Cole against the world story. I had my thumb on fast forward ready to just blur past it. And some of it did get skipped thru. Starr and Cole's endless chatter about love and blah blah blah. That was all really fast. I stopped for the actual sex scene, not because I'm a perv, but because I wanted to see how the scene was handled. Kristen Alderson is still pretty young. I, personally, feel that scene was handled very tastefully and age appropriate. I have a feeling the very end of the scene may have been a body double and that is why they shot the scene outside looking in thru gauzy curtains. I have nothing to substantiate that other than my own gut feeling. But I digress. I was impressed at the level of taste that was shown. This never would have happened so sweetly if Dena Higley were still at the helm.
Let's get to the meat of this awesome and riveting story. Todd. Todd and his psychotic tendencies. His compulsive need to be nucking futs. I was appalled that he would beat the snot out of Marko and scream at Langston just to get Starr's whereabouts. Then we have that disturbing scene of Todd almost beating Cole to death because he was in bed with Starr. Gotta tell ya'll, didn't make me like Todd but it did make for damn good soap. Blair trying to get Todd off Cole, Starr screaming bloody murder, poor Cole just trying to block the blows. Nobody was really shown in their best light. And that's what had me so intrigued. Not to mention the scene in the foyer at La Boulaie of Todd screaming at Starr then raising his hand to her more than once. And Todd screaming that Cole raped Starr. I can see how his twisted mind totally went there. We know that's not what happened but it makes sense to him. I think that is what makes all of this so compelling to me. Every actor involved has stepped it up. They brought their A++ game. Trevor St John is showing layers to Todd's madness. He's not just playing the ogre. There is this hurt in Todd's eyes that comes from him seeing that Starr has grown up and he's no longer Starr's hero. As awesome as these scenes have been I could have done without Todd threatening Langston and Blair justifying Todd's actions.
Here's the thing that makes OLTL so wonderful right now. When you strip all of the fluff away you have a dad who can't deal with his daughter growing up and a mom who knows her daughter is growing up and is trying to help her make the best decisions. I am happy they made Blair so pragmatic about it. Some may say she's being blasé but I find her to be realistic. She set real expectations for Starr about being in love and waiting for the right time, etc... but she also knew Starr is going to have sex. Blair was prepared for there being a first time whereas Todd had the knee jerk reaction that no man would ever touch his little girl.
I'm so happy the writers remembered to have someone in Cole's corner. I really liked Nora calling John to discuss Cole. I LOVED John going straight to La Boulaie and decking Todd. Totally necessary and what a father figure should do.
I do have a few beefs with the story but they're minor. Why haven't John and Nora forced Cole to press charges against Todd? A grown man beat a teenage boy to a bloody mess. There needs to be repercussions for that. Not to mention that Langston is afraid in her own home. And then there is Todd's threat to have Cole thrown in prison for shooting Miles. Is that even possible if Miles isn't willing to press charges? I guess Todd could use his paper to ruin Cole but that would just expose him for the bully he is and throw all the support and sympathy behind Cole.
Ahhhh, Nothing like a little soft porn in the afternoon. No, you say? I have to say I do agree. This past week, All My Children has yet again stooped to a new low - even for them. Pole dancing at Fusion? Whose freaking dream was that anyhow? Oh, Yeah, it had to be Ryan’s, and the hoard of ass-kissing writers in his back pocket. SO we had the fusion gals pole dancing, Annie ripping off her shirt, all the gals shimmying on poles., Then Voila! We have Ryan entering, and damn near wetting himself over it, as his estranged wife used him as a pole, and he glared all bug-eyed at Kendall. Tell me I did not have to watch this tasteless waste of screen time? I cannot for the life of me see where this storyline is heading. Why put Ryan back 4 years in his storyline, I mean seriously, we did not like him all that much four years ago either, did we? Why must we live thru this again? I do hope however, that if the writers decide to nudge Kendall in Ryan’s direction again that they write Kendall smart enough to not forget all the nasty things he has said and done to her in the past. They may be friends in the here and now, but in the past Ryan was nothing short of an abusive ass to Kendall. She deserves someone who loves her like Zach does. If they break them up, they just may lose me as a viewer. Shame,, I think I am one of the last ones too.
Although I am not a big fan of the sleazy character of JR, I certainly do not agree with the direction they have taken him in. It would have been nice to once again redeem him by allowing him to voluntarily donate the marrow to Ritchie, instead of having Ritchie, a parolee with really no money, suddenly have enough money to hire thugs, and a medical facility, and a doctor, to perform the bone marrow transplant on him. Why does Ritchie seem to think he needs to resort to this type of behavior? And where the hell did he get the cash for it?
On Friday we got our first glimpse of Tad’s biological uncle, Roy Gardner. It is reported out there that this guy is going to be Pine Valley’s worst nightmare, and even nastier than Ray Gardner had ever hoped to be. I am also told that This new character will also be somehow tied to the whole Jesse saga. Exactly how, remains to be seen. I have seen rumors and spoilers about this, and do not want to spill too much for those of you who are not spoiler-whores like I am, but all I will say, is strap on your seatbelts, as it is going to be one helluva ride!!! I will ask you this, seeing as his first Pine Valley interaction was with Annie, do any of you think she will somehow end up tangled up in this story?
So, Kendall has a stalker. I will tell you he is going to attempt to attack her. May even be successful. Another question for all of you…Can All My Children go for at least a year without a woman being raped, beaten or abused? You know, with the well written return and reunion of Angie & Jesse, I actually thought things were going to go in the right direction for a change. I guess I was wrong….
Someone hand me my tranquilizers, it is almost time to watch All My Children again…….
~ Through the Medicated Eyes of AMC Girl
Usually, when I sit down to write my blog, I have a hard time figuring out where to begin, and what the tone is going to be. Sure, while I am sitting in front of the boob tube, watching All My Children, the ideas come to me fast and furiously. But sit down with the laptop? And my overly medicated mind draws a complete blank. I am warning you all, due to severe muscle spasms, I am medicated. But, I ask you, is there any other way to watch All My Children without slamming your head into the television?
So, that being said, I will start at the beginning. No, not the historical beginning of All My Children, but the beginning of the show itself. Have you seen the opening lately? Did you notice that on Rebecca Budig’s first day back as Greenlee, Sabine Singh’s character portrayal shot was replaced with hers? It was immediate. So, I put this question out to you - How long are we all supposed to wait before we see the other new or returning characters added to the opening? Where are the opening shots of Debi Morgan or Darnell Williams? Angie and Jesse were far bigger than Greenlee ever was, or will be. So, why weren’t their shots added on Day 1?? If I were those actors, I would be adamant to get the same treatment as Rebecca did. Because to be quite honest here, All My Children will get far more long time viewers back showcasing Angie and Jesse, then parading Greenlee around. Also, are we going to see more of Frankie Hubbard now that his parents are in town? Or will he be faded into the background with the likes of Jonathan or Sean Montgomery? Both of whom have been ousted by the show.
While I think it is great that they are bringing back a popular veteran couple, I do not see success in their return. I can only hope and pray that All My Children can learn from past mistakes, and actually write a decent story for a veteran character. The reason I hold no hope is simple. Look at Adam Chandler, for example. What does he currently have as a storyline? Not much from where I stand. We have a powerful business tycoon, who upon getting his company back, does nothing to stomp on the person who put him in the predicament in the first place. Instead, we have Adam hiding bugs in rings to spy on JR. Please somebody over there at ABC, take Adam Chandler off the sedatives, and unleash his all to well known fury on Pine Valley. It is overdue, and very needed to help pick this soap up.
Another thing I do not understand is why they brought in the character of Samuel Woods as a love interest for Erica? Sorry here folks, but I do not see anyone as an adequate partner for Erica other than Jackson. Why make a big deal about Erica’s 10th marriage if they were not going to make it last? So, I suppose now they are going to make Erica into a Martha Stewart type, selling off tons of stocks. Is this why her accounts are frozen? Also, WHY are they bringing this character in when there is still a spark between Erica and Jack, and there is so much story there to be told. I am warning you now, if and when they pair up Samuel and Erica, I promise you I am NOT going to have anything nice to say about it. Please feel free to call me on that, should I go back on my promise, which I won’t.
There are so many veteran actors on this show, and no matter the writing team they have over there writing, nobody seems to do them justice. Gone are the catfights, jabs and one-liners of Erica & Brooke. The witty reparte of Palmer and Adam. Tad and anyone, for that matter. I did see some of the old chemistry sparks between Tad and Jesse, and alas that gave me hope. Hope that maybe for once the idiots at ABC are listening to us the viewers and maybe are bringing us back to family-centric stories.
While that sounds like a great idea, I somehow doubt this will ever come to fruition. Why should it? They have a bad habit over at All My Children of showcasing stories they THINK we want to see. Here are a few examples -
THEY THINK: we want to see Kendall’s infidelity over and over.
WE WANT: to see Kendall and Zach with their children as a family unit. Happy. Draw your stories from that.
THEY THINK: We want to see Ryan and his bulging eyes every day on our screen, being the saviour of women and all in Pine Valley.
WE WANT: To see Ryan bedstruck with a blinding debilitating disease, with his eyes bandaged. Unable to save anyone, except us the viewers from having to look at him EVERY DAY.
THEY THINK: we want new characters brought in, and shoved in our faces.
WE WANT: Old favorites brought back, and actually written for in entertaining and challenging, and keeping us on the edge of our seats.
THEY THINK: we want to see the Kendall and Greenlee Show
WE WANT: to actually see other characters on the show too.
And lastly, before I re-medicate so I can sit through yet another disappointing hour of All My Children -
THEY THINK: We are loyal to watching.
I’M THINKING - Is there anything good on another channel?
So smarten up AMC Executives, remotes are very easy to use these days, and does not take any effort to change the channel. I wonder what is on NBC at 1 pm eastern time???

Good Morning, time to rise and shine, oh, and don’t forget to completely forget the past 4 years. Isn’t this what’s supposed to happen when you get GRAZED by a bullet on the side of your head? It’s NOT??!! Ok, color me shocked. How STUPID to the writers think we, as a collective audience are? I realize that when writing there needs to be some suspension of disbelief, but come on, this is completely unreal. What kind of mental state is the willing suspension of disbelief? Why do fiction and drama affect our emotions even when we know they are not real? Why is it that people can cry and show great emotion when a fictional character dies, isn't this silly, irrational even, to get upset about something that is not real?
