Cameron Mathison has emerged as a possible candidate to fill the anchor seat to be vacated by Diane Saywer at ABC's Good Morning America, according to Mediaite.
Insiders at ABC say Stephanopoulos has expressed concerns about doing the 8am hour as well, which is generally reserved for lighter news. If ABC makes the 7am hour more politically focused to suit Stephanopoulos’ strengths, the 8am hour could get a different tone entirely, maybe even with a different host. One potential name that has arisen is soap star Cameron Mathison, who has guest hosted the show before, although we hear it’s very unlikely he would be named to a permanent anchor role.
Besides Stephanopoulos and Mathison, other possible contenders include David Muir, Bill Weir and Chris Cuomo.

Oh my gosh..Hopefully Cameron is the new Host so he can LEAVE AMC FOR GOOD. I am so sick of that Ape Ryan Lavery taking over the show! No offense to Cameron. But Ryan has been ruined for life by Pratt! Ryan is a complete idiot and is of no use to this show!

As is, it's bad enough they're losing Diane in the morning (which is probably the night time new's gain -LOVE HER!!) but Bulging Eyeballs??????!!

I pick Mathison. They don't really need a newsman for the later morning show, and it would force AMC to do something non-Rylee w/Rebecca Budig. Wouldn't it? Maybe put her w/Frankie, and get rid of Randi. And, while I'm dreaming, maybe Jesse or Scott or someone else could be the new leading man?

Hosting Good Morning America has very little to do with journalism. Sure, it has had journalists as hosts, but for its first several years, GMA was hosted by an actor and an actress (David Hartman and Nancy Dussault).

Chris Cuomo is the ONLY man for the job. I'm actually surprised that they would consider someone else. He's got great journalism credentials, but can still laugh it up and have fun when it's called for. Not to mention he's hilarious...
...I'm sorry to even see Diane leave, because I think the current GMA crew is so good. But if she does have to go, Chris should definitely get her spot and the search should be for a new news anchor.

I don't even watch GMA, but I think Cuomo is an ideal choice for the job. He can do the lighter stuff, and he's also capable to handle newsier stuff...especially breaking news.
I never miss George Snuffleupagus' Sunday morning show, and I hope he sticks with that for a long time.

The thought of Cameron Mathison on a news desk breaks my news lovin' heart! Are you kidding me?
A lot of big breaking news happens in the morning. Remember 911? How would Cameron Mathison act on that desk at that moment? Or the attacks on Britain's commuter buses?
Morning show hosts must be able to be both light and serious journalists. Both George and Cameron are one sided. I don't care much for Chris Cuomo, but at least you can trust him with hard news when it happens.
If I was the producer of GMA, I'd be seriously pissed off if they brought in Cameron Mathison. I wouldn't trust him to do anything but animal stories and that's stretching it.

ITA w/ miwebste that it should be Chris Cuomo in the anchor chair and David Muir on the news. I love Cam, but he'd be much better suited to host a reality show or an entertainment news show like Extra.
I've been a fan of David Muir's since his days as a local anchor on our Syracuse station here. I've been watching him steadily climb through the ranks at ABC. He can do light news, as evidenced by his years anchoring ABC's World News Now overnight, as well as covering the weekend news duties. Plus, he's easy on the eyes; a perfect combination for a morning news program. It'd be nice to see him get that gig. He'd be following in the footsteps of another Syracuse alum who went on to make it nationally in morning news. Have any of you ever heard of Al Roker?
