I admit it, I loved the character of Erica Hahn on Grey's Anatomy. It took me a while to warm up to her, but the actress won me over. That's why it really gets my goat that Brooke Smith was let go.
The official line is that the “magic and chemistry” wasn't sustainable long-term, but hell, both Izzie and George were trashed as characters and they still had opportunities to gel with other people on the canvas. Yeah, I know they’ve been there since the beginning. It still makes me mad.
For Erica, there was an interesting vibe with Cristina. They were so alike, and at the same time at odds. There was a lot of untapped potential there – every story doesn’t need to have sex at its core. Although, having said that, an Erica/Cristina love story could have been amazing. Two power-house actresses and convincing onscreen chemistry, what could go wrong? Oh, yeah, they’d pull the plug on it, that’s what.

I thought her departure was weak. So she dumps Callie because she doesn't want her to squeal on Seattle Grace. They don't have a follow up conversation?? I guess Callie will allude to follow up conversations with Erica but it just seems like it was all a bit last minute. But I am glad it's over because they were one of the weaker links on the show. I actuallly think that Derek and Meredith are now the least interesting part of GA. Not because they are together but because Meredith just annoys me. I'm just waiting for a good Sloan storyline.

I am glad that she is gone, but no, that was not a fitting send off. They could have at least had Callie and Erica have a HUGE fight but that was lame.

I did like the fact that she walked away from Callie. I found some of Callie's actions to be very disrespectful to Erica. So it was nice to see her walk away. Her exit was similar to that of Burke's but just like that exit it was not fitting, at all!

Erica has always been the odd man out at Seattle Grace, so I do think it's fitting that the one person she finally connects with decides to refute her personally and professionally, the reaction should be to just walk away. In the end, Callie represented everything she hated about her position. Plus, once you become a love interest on that show and not part of the core characters, you immediately become expendable.

I agree with Season1217 and will expand on it. Shonda writes horrible exits. The only one worthy of anything was Denny's and heck he's still wandering around as freakin' ghost boy because Shonda loves him so.
Burke and Hahn's send offs were horrible. Heck, even Addison's send off was pretty bad. These people have no closure, no wonder they're so dysfunctional!
