After years apart, it didn’t take Danny (Michael Damian) and Cricket (Lauralee Bell) long to strip each other of their clothes and end up between the sheets on The Young and the Restless.
Do Danny and Cricket still sizzle for you?
I thought it was sweet.
but the only thing that bugged (heh) me about Danny being back, is that we're supposed to believe that he can still play those kind of venues!?
Sweet??? What??? They talked for 3 minutes and a bangfest from hell followed. There was nothing sweet about it.
Nothing sexy, either. Or sensual. Or loving. Or interesting. Or believable.
It was another Maria Arena Bell 60-second attempt at capturing the past. She and her writers think they can dredge up characters from decades past, give them 3 lines of dialogue, and then do something "edgy" -- like fast-and-furious sex.
It's pitiful in every way.
"Still" sizzle? That implies that they EVER sizzled, which I don't think they did.
for those who missed the scene:
This was so rushed! I mean they meet up accidentally in the bar and 20 minutes later they are having sex? How romantic. And wnother thing is that they are both just visitors on this show. How can they expect us to invest in this scene, when we know they're both leaving soon. The love scene in itself was good imo, but why did they waste it on them? In stead of say, Adam & Chelsea?
It was rushed, unexpected and kinda silly, but I think there's an impulsiveness and a more youthful/fun quality to Danny and Cricket now that I wish they had possessed more back in the 90s. And assuming the fact that these writers don't know how to write REAL romance like Bill Bell did, I think hot romps in the hay are about as much as we can expect.
I was never a fan of the couple but I don't think they've lost whatever "chemistry" they had. I WAS distracted by Michael Damian's hair. That can't be real, can it? The guy's 50!
I thought they were sweet too....back in 1985. Personally, I always preferred Cricket with Paul.
I never could stand Cricket....still can't.
I couldn't agree more! Where the hell did that come from? I knew this was going to happen, but "Hi how ya been for the last 15 years lets have sex" was way trashy. Give them a day or two, a dinner or two, then see what happens. But no, 3 minutes is all it takes in Mariaville.
BTW...Michael Damian is a little scary looking with his fakey hair, but Lauralee still looks good.
Danny X Cricket = Cranny? Dicket? What would their smash name be?
It's pitiful in every way. [/quote]
Yeah, that sums it up precisely. Especially for relatively new viewers like myself(about 2 years), what reason were we given to care about a pairing we might know of, yet never experienced? It was lame bottom line.
Overall, sex w/o setup/cause on Y&R has really become a pet peeve of mine. Yes, yes, Cricket & Danny were a couple like a decade ago or more, but life still happened afterwards. So realistic. For all either cared to know, they could've just had a romp with a married woman/man.
We're supposed to believe these two seemingly unattached people who could have seen each other at any time over the years, but haven't, are so hot to trot that they were banging into walls? Uh uh. Ain't buying it. It was forced and it seemed like the writers just threw it in there for no reason.
And why are we being led to believe Michael Damien has the same amount of hair and worse yet the SAME STYLE that he had waaaaay back when?!
It was typical Maria Bell. Rushed for no apparent reason. Lauralee Bell has been giving interviews saying fans need to tune in to see classic Y&R. Nothing classic about the way Maria writes. Classic Y&R would have taken its time and hit all the good emotional beats. Maria's Y&R is like watching news in 60 seconds at the top of the hour.
This show will die on Maria's watch and she will go out thinking she did a great job. She sucks!!
Bad writing plus bad acting sounds like Y&R as usual these days...
I actually (*Gulp*) watched most of the episode on You Tube so I could get a better idea of the way the characters interacted before I commented here.
Just from my impression (purely my opinion), while the actors themselves do have a chemistry, the WRITING is just LOST. If this was indeed their first time seeing each other in a long time and the next thing we see after a chat is them hopping into bed, then to say it was rushed would be an understatement. It was INCREDIBLY RUSHED and it would appear to be antithetical to who their characters are. While I would like to see spontaneity injected into both characters, couldn't they have gone to dinner first? Or done something vaguely romantic together first that would build, so that when they do combust into a torrent of lust and lovemaking, it would make sense?
Everything on this show over the past few years appears to be too coincidental and happenstance and it comes off completely contrived. Why not plant a few seeds along the way?
Had I been tasked with writing their returns, I would've first established that both characters did indeed keep in touch even if it's just by phone, Skype or e-mail. I would've had whomever arrived in GC first (was it Danny or Christine?) mention that they heard the other might be paying a short visit. Then I'd have them run into each other a couple of times in different locales, each time they can have a brief conversation characterized by some flirting and witty repartee and then one of the characters can suggest dinner or something. At least have them go out on a date, a walk in the park or something so that they can have an opportunity to discover that the attraction is really still there. Don't have them sleep together after that first date but you can show flashbacks (if you are lazy, which these writers are Very Lazy!) of them reminiscing together or alone (after the date). You can have another scene or two (the next day or so) before they give in to each other. I don't think this would take a whole lotta time, really.
Seems like TPTB (A.K.A the TIIC) wanted to squeeze this side story in all in one day's work! I know time is Money but Gosh, they could've done so much better with the set up of this.
Lame as usual - then again, that's all we see on "Y & R" these days and it's gonna get worse as the weeks wear on, people....!!!
I thought that there was something rather unrealistic about that sudden and unexpected torrid coupling as well.
I also do agree that Ms. Bell does look quite good personally, if not rather scary right now as Christine. But I do wonder what Mr. Damian really looks like hosed off, deflated and dewigged.
