NBC has a lot riding on the success of its Broadway drama Smash, and the series’ new showrunner Josh Safran is already shaking things up. EW.com first reported that Raza Jaffrey (Dev) and Jaime Cepero (Ellis) had been axed. That news was followed by The Hollywood Reporter’s revelation that Brian d’Arcy James (Frank) and Will Chase (Michael) have also received pink slips.
On the most recent Pop Confidential podcast, Jamey Giddens suggested the show needed to focus on developing the Karen (Katharine McPhee), Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) and Ivy (Megan Hilty) triangle. With the departure of Jaffrey’s Dev at least one obstacle for such a storyline will be out of the way.
Which Smash character will you miss most?

They should dump Debra Messing.
On The Big C, Brian d'Arcy James was having a threeway with John Benjamin Hickey and Tammy Blanchard. Maybe Smash should hire them, two talented, charismatic, attractive performers - then I'd watch the show more often.

Sadly, it's already been revealed that Ellis (and Dev) have been smashed.
Ellis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Life is not fair since Ellis will no longer be on Smash to scheme and sleep around to get his way.

I'm a theater person who has never seen not one episode of this show. Strange, huh?

I have decided I really love this show!
I think I am okay with the cuts, they are keeping the most interesting characters! I hope this show has success, it is very entertaining!

None of the above?
I can't say any of these characters will be great losses.

They all brought something to the show but not enough for me to care about them or want any of them to stick around for another season. They need to focus more on the actual Broadway aspect of the series.

I agree...none of them will be missed. I just hope they bring on some more interesting characters to take their places.
