I got into a argument with him on twitter, and he told me "People don't want to see reels" He also told me that the Vegas show is much more entertaining.
*************
I love it when people like him try and tell us FANS what we want! How the hell is he different from FRONS??? The show SUCKED tonight and I'm sorry, but he deserves to know it. I didn't see ANY positive tweets from fans, not ONE that had to do with the show as a whole. We were happy for certain winners, but the show as a whole??? #TOTALFAIL
And I TOO EAGERLY, EAGERLY await the next podcast!!!! The show was a joke this year, I'm offended for all of us fans….

And WTF was up with the supposed Susan Lucci tribute??? That was a fucking joke! And Erika Slezak should've been honored as well! 40 years, and STILL no recognition outside OLTL and the fans! SMFH!
Sitting thorough the crap tonight was SOOO not worth it! And did we all see how they ZIPPED through the nominess while naming them??? And at the same time, folks had to hurry off the stage as they accepted their awards to introduce more vegas crap! I swear, the music started playing before a few even got up there to hurry and get them off! If I didn't know better, I wouldn't think I had watched the DAYTIME Emmys tonight and instead just a show with a bunch Pretty People talking! This is why folks think Daytime is a joke, because this shitfest they called an awards show. If you can't even honor your own medium, if you can't even RESPECT your own medium, the actors and fans, the effing INDUSTRY with something worthy, don't bother. Because the halfassness is crystal CLEAR! Even if I questioned a few winners, NO ONE deserved to put up with that crap. NO ONE!
Good Lord, so much of what you said is straight gospel! And nothing was more the truth than the fact that shitfests like this are why daytime gets no respect(and I'm not talking about fucking talk shows or game shows I'm talking about soaps). The whole thing was ridonk to the Nth degree on top of the fact that there was a total of about 5 to 7 minutes(I'm being generous here) during the whole thing that was actually satisfying(that being the wins of Scott Clifton, Michael Park and Laura Wright). I mean, thirty damn minutes to Oprah Winfrey? I mean why the hell doesn't she just cure cancer and solve world peace since she's apparently Jesus come back to save us! The saddest thing of all? We'll never get that damn two hours of our life back.

This show was a joke. I gave it an F, and as someone else said if there was a grade lower than that, then it would have been chosen.
They need to move the show back to LA and have more fan interaction. How can you have a Daytime Emmy show and hardly show the actors/actresses presenting, snippets of their emmy reels, and at least a pan to them in the audience when the nominees are announced. They Oprah tribute was too much and too long. We have long running shows going off the air. Oprah knew she was retiring a year ago.
I wondered why the audience was so silent through most of the show. They were just as bored out of their minds as we were.
Whoever is the producer of the show is, he is just as lost as Brian Frons if he thinks this is what viewers want.
It is becoming very interesting that since CBS has telecast the awards, most of the awards are going to CBS shows. Coincidence much. I think not.
I will not be watching this mess next year.

Thank you ChrisGa! … I tried censoring myself but the show was a shitfest if I ever saw one.
THIS!!! THIS right here is the damn gospel, I SWEAR! WTF was up with that tribute lasting nearly as long as the damn show??? GOOD GRIEF! AMC/OLTL got nary a mention and it's all about Oprah and folks singing to her... did they forget she has her own damn channel??? Where the hell do they think she's going??? She AINT DEAD! I was just irritated watching the show. Aside from some of the winners, it was an effing waste of time!

I am so glad I did not even bother to watch. I watched a criminal minds marathon and read the winners and got all the updates here. I mean last year I could barely get through the two hours and the way you guys were describing this year...my whole face got hot.
Congrats to Laura Wright, Jonathan Jackson, Heather Tom, Scott Clifton and Michael Park! They deserved better than the crap Jim Romawhatever put together.

Just wondering: did I miss the usual shot of the two people who work for the accounting company that counts the votes and 'they and only THEY knew the results of the winners until tonight'???

As far as the show itself went, I give it an F. Wayne Brady was a horrible host. Oprah's tribute was WAY too long. There wasn't a damned thing done for AMC and One Life, other than a quick note at the start of the show and Liza's oddly awkward speech to her mother towards the end of the night. And, really, I'm all for childrens' charities, but I don't really want to see depressing images on my tv screen. It's the reason why I run to the remote the second I see those damned humane society commercials pop up on my screen.
BUT all of that is overshadowed by the fact that Scott Clifton and Laura Wright, the two people who I wanted to walk away with the awards the most, got their deserved emmys.
So, overall, I had to give it a C.

I give it a "C", for "clusterfuck".
Just kidding... I give it an F.
Such a disaster. Nothing about that tacky ass broadcast honored soap operas, the fans, or the incredible actors who make this genre great. It looked cheap, went at breakneck speed, and focused almost solely on Vegas tourism. We do not want to SEE that! Do they not realize 90% of the people who watch the daytime Emmys are soap fans?! Ugh! How about a segment about how to save our soaps?
I loved how Alex Trebek didn't even know he had won an award because he was looking down reading a book. Guess he was as bored as I was sitting at home. Lol.
Remember how different these awards were even a mere five years ago? SoapNet had a red carpet pre show where they'd discuss the nominees and the fashion. The venue was elegant, and the entire cast of our shows would show up. Sigh.

Watching this show was PAINFUL. Literally, I had pains. The ONLY saving grace was seeing Laura Wright win. I was hoping we would avoid the whole information schtick like last year from Vegas, but I guess, if this is the only way to air the awards show, than fine - for now. However, it's deeply disappointing when people win and DO NOT SHOW UP (talking to you annointed holy one). It's almost like the daytime stars have already given up on the cheesfest that is the Daytime Emmy Awards...so in that respect, I can't blame them.
But let me tell ya...if OLTL isn't nominated for a butt load AND win next year, I am DONE with daytime TV.
Overall, this program was a INSULT to daytime TV fans. If AMC and OLTL do not get decent tributes next year, I will not only be beside myslef, I will be under, next to, over and OUT.

oh and can I add...
Rachael Ray needs a new sylist. Tracey Bregman needs to tell Melissa Archer how to wear a dress when you are STACKED. And Dr. Oz, who likes to scold the rest of us on our health, needs to start monitoring his studio's commissary...seriously.

The show was the worst show in Daytime Emmy history. I can remember the first emmy shows back in the 70s, low budget and outdoors that they were, and even they were better than this stuff 35 years later. Daytime, as usual, did not get the respect it deserves. We want to see reels of our favorite characters and shows that have been nominated, not travel commercials for Atlantis and Las Vegas. Well, I guess CBS cares about soaps as much as ABC - too bad. I would hate for their to not be any ceremony in coming years, so won't call for that, and I guess if this is what they are going to hit us with each year we will have to accept it just so we can get a glimpse of our favorite stars. That doesn't mean we have to like it. Of course, with only four shows on the air next year, who is really going to care?

I do believe it was the worst show. Commercial for Vegas. Celene and Marie. I will give Marie a pass since she is coming on b&b. cbs promoted their shows, both game/soaps. I guess they got that right from putting the awards show in their lineup.
Soaps only were featured about 20 min out of the two hours. Can you imagine next year when there is only four. Writing is on the wall. It is too bad a cable company does not pick up oltl. It is 3, blah blah blah. amc does not have enough time left for anything. The networks are done with soaps even the final four.
I am so sick of Oprah, I can't stand it anymore. She had her goodbye. For goodness sakes. Her show was losing to Judge Judy and I think she left while on top. She was losing ratings at this point. Being the business woman she is, she left.
I will admit that when the entertainment and tributes were made, I was doing other things and came back when another soap award was being announced. There is no way I am going to sit and watch Celene sing. She is hasbeen for me. She did get her show in vegas advertised. Oprah was not even there for good sakes.

Ok really 7 people gave this show an "A". Really? Maybe all your people won.... Or maybe you just love Vegas that much? Well anyway not many awards programs would ever get an A because they are live and usually have some trip ups somewhere. However this particular show was a VERRRRRRY bad idea from its inception. So that it came out as an A in your minds is well mind boggling. Maybe someone who gave the show an A could explain why. Please.

D. The only saving graces were Laura Wright's win and I liked Wayne Brady as a host because he is poised and uber-talented.
What a massive waste of time. It has been clear that the industry shows no respect for soap operas. If it weren't for soap operas there would be no daytime emmys! Just painful to watch and embarrassing for all involved. I mean Alex Trebek was reading his program when Jeopardy! was announced as Best Game Show, Montel Williams was texting when Lead Actress emmy was announced and there was so little soap-related moments. I wish someone would have stated how much of a shame it is that soap operas were destroyed and that AMC and OLTL was canceled. I mean, what does any performer have to lose? Susan Lucci does her best, but her denial that daytime soaps have been murdered makes her look foolish and out of touch. I love Ms. Lucci but she should be justifiably pissed off at her treatment (also, the lame behavior of Shemar Moore Double Ugh.) Debbi Morgan was the only person to acknowledge soaps' demise. She's clearly a realist. Man, I wish she had tied with Laura Wright for Lead Actress. She had the best reel.
I feel completely disrespected by the emmys and so should stars of OLTL who flew across the country and bought new formal wear for that bullshit.

Watching these Emmy's were a total waste of time. A half hour tribute to Oprah was unbearable to watch and then she doesn't even make an appearance.Oprah was the name of the program at 4:00 not the real person with the name Oprah. She just raked in the dollars.
It was so embarassing how Susan Lucci was presented. I'm certainly not watching next year without AMC & OLTL. Soapfans watch the emmys so we should have seen more clips. This was a total disaster.

I didn't watch the emmy's last night, but it's still on my DVR, but I might as well delete it and just YouTube Laura's speech, I'm royally pissed off that Lexi Ainsworth didn't win. That girl was robbed. That chick who won is the new Drew Tyler Bell of this years emmys.

I can't blame the producers for who won or lost, and I'm glad that they fought to get the show aired. However what I thought we were getting and what I saw were two different things. My understanding was that those who put this together loved soaps. I see no evidence of that. However, what do I know, I'm only a fan of soaps who is one of those "online" people who's been relegated to the status of a leper I guess. I'm very disappointed in hearing how he really feels about soap fans... who were supposed to tune in to the show. Fail #1.
Soaps have been the foundation of daytime and honors and recognition were due it. There should have been an actual Lucci honoring moment, a moment to memorialize the soaps that have died, and a moment to give OLTL and AMC a standing O. I did appreciate seeing the soap stars in those great spots for the charities. Shows our soap stars have big hearts for their fans, for people in general, and for the children facing terrible diseases. But other than a few awards being slung quickly past the camera, where were the "daytime stars" we were promised at the beginning of the show? Fail #2.
And the holy oprah show. SERIOUSLY?? I got out my bible to see where it talked about her as the second coming, but nope... so I think somebody got it way wrong. Yes the o had a lot to do with daytime and now her show is gone, it deserved a send off ... WAIT... a show that has been on daytime for many years got a send off???? Hmmmm, wait.... perhaps 2 ABC soaps should have received the same... yet I digress. The overload of butt-kissing of o was just too too much. Fail #3.
Vegas. Sure, let us see a glimpse of it, but the long vegas commercial stole time away from what could have been time recognizing daytime stars/soaps. Nice to learn that we soap fans would rather watch a vegas show than pay our respects to soaps via reels. Oh, forgot... I'm just a dumb soap fan. Fail #4.
Kudos to CBS for the Jabot spots though. Networks have been missing out on ways to grow the soap market. Big fails for them. But with real Jabot coming on the market, they are reaching to new ways of financial stability (important to networks of course), and giving fans another way to connect to their show/characters. Now if they will just figure out that the Nielsons no longer work and they are missing out on a market who records while at work, or only watch on CBS's site. That could be a key factor in re-evaluating daytime's numbers.
Rant over... for now.

I totally remember that; Chandra Wilson from GREY'S was doing red carpet interviews because she's a mad soap fan and you could see the joy every time she interviewed soap stars. And I believe SOAPNET did a Fashion Police type wrap-up with Linda Dano and some other folks about what was worn on the red carpet as well as who deserved to get nominated/win and who didn't. Boy, that seems like forever ago now.

The show was a disgrace. They never showed the actors nominated & the camera barely made it in time to see the reaction of the actors who did win. They never panned to any actor in the audience, like people wanna constantly look at Dr. Oz all night long. They spent 45 minutes kissing Oprah's butt & then she didn't even show. The actors were just background. Wayne Brady was good with what he had to work with. My major complaint was that they refused to acknowledge the actors in attendance. Like true lovers of daytime drama care about starring at saggy boobed Rachel Ray, Dr. Oz, & the reats of those game show hosts. Did we really need to see that painful Elvis dance number?

You wouldn't even know it was the Daytime Emmy Awards if they didn't say it a couple of times. Overall, the Daytime Emmys just made me sad. What a disgrace this show was. Everyone who has commented already has pretty much summed up all my feelings.
I spend so much time defending daytime to naysayers, but after watching last night's show, it's almost impossible to convince anyone that daytime is not a complete JOKE.
I get excited every year and am let down time and time again. But never this bad. The disrespect this show had for soaps was overtly evident. Are we sure Brian Frons didn't produce this mess?

You know, when I first voted I gave it a C. I think I was just so happy that Laura Wright won that I was still in a haze of joy.. now that I think about it harder I would change my vote to an F. It was such a rushed show that it took me a while to think about all the things they missed! Also, as an OLTL fan I feel really insulted that the show was just overlooked completely. What a hot mess...

20 June 2011

I gave the show an F--like most everyone else and for all the reasons already mentioned: Vegas Infomercial, horrible host, long tribute to Oprah who didn't bother to attend, no formal send off for AMC which will go off the air this year (unlike OLTL which will depart in 2012), bad sets, bad writing, etc.
As if all of those things weren't enough, the winners made absolutely no sense?! Laura Wright?! Really? She's a very nice actress but compared to others in this category..not even close. I felt like this was a token thrown to GH. But that wasn't the greatest offense. The very fact that OLTL wasn't even nominated for Outstanding Drama Series is a disgrace. It was literally the best drama on the air this year and would have easily beat B&B.
Speaking of which---how is that show still on the air and we're losing AMC and OLTL? Don't say it's because of ratings, because B&B continues to slide on a scale only outpaced by Days--as often mentioned by the DC site. And B&B's ratings have always been a result of the fact that it has the cushy time slot --airing in most markets immediately after Y&R. Does anyone remember A Different World?! Exactly! It was in the top 10 for most of the time it was on the air--but that was because it was sandwiched between Cosby and Cheers. No one really cared about that show. B&B is the daytime version--no one cares. It hasn't become part of pop culture like AMC, GH, OLTL, Y&R, and Days. So the fact that this poor excuse for a program continues to air--much less have a threepeat --is beyond anything I can fathom. And, don't tell me it's because of strong international distribution. May I remind everyone that CBS doesn't see any part of that money because it doesn't own the show or even a piece of the show. So, they get nothing (Sony and Bell Productions get it all).
Outside of Susan Flannery, B&B represents the place where bad actors go to spend to graze. Bad acting and I dare say bad writing. I know, some people (maybe the one or two that might actual care about the show) will not like that statement; however, I believe the show is now experiencing the Santa Barbara effect. SB could pull together two good, consistent shows to submit for Emmy reels. All they had to do was have Mason giving a Shakespearean soliloquy and have Eden raped or going through her own multiple personality disorder and boom, they would win. And that's where the daytime Emmys fail. In my view, the shows should be allowed to select and submit two consecutive shows of their choosing---then, the Academy picks a random date and tells the nominees to submit whatever footage aired on that date. That prevents a show from stacking the deck--after all, any show can pull together at least two meaningful episodes a year.
Ok, so enough ranting about B&B and the utter stupidity that such a program is still broadcasting. The Emmys were simply dreadful. They air far too long after the evaluation period covers. It shouldn't be broadcast from Las Vegas which has absolutely nothing to do with daytime television--I'm shocked if anyone who lives in Vegas is even awake when many of these programs air! I would rather see the program not telecast as to be forced to endure another two hours of that horrible mess. What a way to honor the best and brightest in daytime...then again, considering the state of network daytime programming, maybe the awards show merely reflected the business it was honoring!

I thought the show was sloppy period. It wasn't the lack of reels or Shemar's piss poor performance with Mrs. Lucci, it started with Penn and Teller and like a snowball going down hill, just got worse and worse. I gave it a D because I watched on DVR and FF all of the Vegas and yes charity pieces.
Once the Oprah award was announced and she was informed and declined and I am pretty sure that's how it went, the tribute should have been edited down to maybe 5 minutes. She did 3 shows as self tribute in which some of the most famous people in the world attended, the DE had no chance of outshining or even sparkling anything close so why go so far. I have a feeling that Regis would have come and maybe Kelly too if he were getting the Oprah treatment. It also was somewhat predictable that the Academy would want to honor his last season with an Emmy and it would have been nice to see and hear him get it. His former touring partner Susan Lucci could also have received a few of Oprah's minutes for a proper tribute and I'll agree with those who mentioned Mrs. Slezak and throw in Robin Strasser.
I used to call myself an awards show junkie, I would watch anything with award in the title so I have seen some clunkers but this was without a doubt the worse production I have ever seen and there should be deep shame among the producers: deep shame.
