Pine Cones in Pine Valley

Regular Daytime Confidential readers and aficionados may have noticed that this lovely website has added daily recaps of most of the soaps on the air, in addition to Perkie's longtime (and often hilarious) observations about General Hospital. Conspicuously absent from the recaps — at least as of this writing — has been what might be considered the quintessential forerunner of the modern soap opera, All My Children.

Not too long ago, our fearless leader, Luke, asked if I would be able to write a daily recap of the show since I've been watching it; I regrettably informed him that because of a currently unpredictable schedule (hence, why there are long lags between my posts these days) I would be unable to do so. Instead, I suggested that I would divert my recent attentions from Guiding Light to AMC a bit more closely and blog about life in Pine Valley more regularly. Since then I've mightily tried to get a grip on the show, but unfortunately watching All My Children is not unlike walking on pine cones barefoot: it's not the worst feeling in the world, but it is still pretty painful. Guiding Light Moment: Billy to Mindy: "You're NOT My Daughter!"

Welcome to one of the reasons why I watched Guiding Light. My older sister and I had to take a stroll back in time and relive the moments in our heads about what got us hooked on GL. I remember watching the storyline play out when one of soaps ultimate bad boys Roger Thorpe (the late Michael Zaslow) was hitting the sheets with his enemy Billy's (Jordan Clarke) baby girl, Melinda "Mindy" Sue Lewis played by Kimberley Simms at the time. So what if Roger and Mindy were tearing up a box spring, they are both adults right?

Eenie Meenie Minie Mo Catch a Hunk by the Toe

Amanda Dillon (Chrishell Stause) hasn't been the luckiest in love. Every time she falls for someone something happens. There was Jamie (Justin Bruening), JR, Jonathan (Jeff Branson) and didn't she even try to seduce Aidan (I'm a little fuzzy on those early days of her character)? Well now it seems that Amanda has not one, not two, but three men to choose from.

Sure The Powers That Be are trying to take Ricky Paull Goldin's Jake Martin out of the running and she just slept with David Hayward (Vincent Irizarry) but now it seems as if the writers want to reunite her with JR (Jacob Young).

Personally, I'm not all that thrilled with a David/Amanda coupling but a Jake/Amanda/JR triangle would be smokin hot.

Erica Kane, So Many Men to Choose From

All My Children's Erica (Susan Lucci) has had herself many a man over the years and one can't be too hard on her for it, after all she is Erica Kane. It's not like she's a wannabe diva from another ABC soap, who shall remain nameless for the sake of my hope (read the comments) that Pushing Daisies will be saved and who I must say nice things about for a month if it is, who slept with two men in one episode without a shower in between, but I digress.

Once again, Erica finds herself the center of at least two mens' attention, Adam (David Canary) and Jack (Walt Wiley). With the return of David Hayward (Vincent Irizarry), one can only wonder what might be in store for the former lovers.
