Three Things to be Young and Restless About Right Now!

We soap lovers can be as scathing as the most hardcore sports fan when it seems our favorite daytime players are asleep on the bench or the writing team is making bad plays. Though I find myself cursing at my TV for some of the recent shenanigans on The Young and the Restless, it’s a reason why I still tune in, and the good must be acknowledged. Giving props where they are due, I want to speak on three things that I’m loving right now about Y&R.

You Decide: Should Lauren Get to Know Jill as a Sister?

Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) didn’t have to shell out for pyrotechnics this Fourth of July, because the fireworks were in full effect courtesy of the ever-embattled Jill (Jess Walton) and spitfire Lauren (Tracey Bregman). Last week on The Young and the Restless, the sirens discovered that they had far more in common than their business acumen and love of powerful men, as a DNA test confirmed that they are half-sisters.

While Jill embraced the idea of having a biological sibling and wanted to bond immediately, Lauren did not reciprocate the warm and fuzzy feelings. The redhead told Jill in no uncertain terms that she intended to keep her father’s memory, and only child status, firmly in tact and had no interest in a close relationship. Jill, who has always craved a sense of belonging, responded to Lauren’s rejection by legally taking the Fenmore name and investigating her rights to the family fortune. Given Jill’s reputation, and considering that Lauren used to be quite the mean girl back in the gap, both have good reason for their respective attitudes. You decide: Should Lauren show Jill a little sisterly love?

Yes. Lauren should drop the ice queen routine and accept Jill as her sister.

Y&R's Tracey Bregman Producing Proposed Broadway Musical, With 70's Soap Supercouple

The beautiful and talented Tracey Bregman (Lauren/Sarah, The Young and the Restless) is serving as executive producer of a planned Broadway musical, co-created by 60's and 70's soap icons Gene Bua and Toni Bull Bua (they portrayed Bill and Tess Prentiss on Love of Life, and later starred in the Another World spinoff Somerset). The musical is called When I Dream, and also involves popular singer/song writer/producer Brandon Jarrett of Moho Productions and arranger Daniel Alexander.

Jarrett and the Buas recently released a new CD of baby music called "Baby in Bliss". For more information on the disc go here. To learn more about Moho Productions, visit them online. This Week in Daytime

This week in daytime,

I wondered if All My Children's Zach (Thorsten Kaye) and Kendall (Alicia Minshew) fans were steaming mad about their couple's onscreen reunion, of sorts. Not being a Zendall fan myself I expect it had to be more than a little bittersweet to see a favorite couple return, only to dissolve before our eyes like a hairball in a drain pipe attacked by Draino. My sympathies are with you Zendall fans.

Tracey Bregman Weighs in on if Y&R is Becoming Passions

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, consummate trooper Tracey Bregman weighs in on whether The Young and the Restless is becoming more and more like Passions.

Lately, there’s been a big shift in tone at Y&R. It’s becoming more and more like Passions.

I think the mysteries are tweaked a little bit more, and there is the fun, fantasy element of Sheila’s twins, Daisy and Ryder, but it’s still based somewhat in the reality of the relationships. We still have the rich, family stories and the romances. Y&R’s success has always been based on the audience’s connection to the characters. Don’t forget it was [Y&R creator] Bill Bell who had Lauren buried alive, and that was a wild, very emotional story. As long as you can keep the character relationships on point, I think the audience will go for the ride. When it gets outlandish on other shows, I find it difficult as a viewer to connect with that. But I don’t think that’s ever been Y&R’s problem.

Y&R's Tracey Bregman and Christian LeBlanc in Reba Music Video

Talk about two of my favorite things in one place, Reba McEntire and soap stars in a music video. It doesn't get much better than this. Watch Reba's new music video for "I Keep on Lovin' You," featuring The Young and the Restless' Christian LeBlanc and Tracey Bregman, after the jump.
