MICHAEL: So we can safely assume that the conflict and confrontations between Katherine Chancellor and her son, Tucker, will continue? He is out for revenge on his mother!
STEPHEN: Yes, he is out for revenge on his mother. I mean any kid that was put in an orphanage at birth, and whose mother put him there and never looked back, would feel resentful of that. So yeah, I am going to get her.
Nichols began taping his scenes on Dec. 17. The former DAYS and GH superstar is set to debut in Genoa City on Jan. 27. So why the quickie switch? Suds Report has learned from a source that, “There was no behind-the-scenes problem with William. Barbara Bloom wanted Stephen for the role from the start — and in the end, she got her way.”
In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, newly-snagged Young and Restless star Stephen Nichols talks about how the role of mysterious billionaire Tucker McCall came to his attention.
So you’re just sitting around the house one day and all of a sudden the phone rings and your life changes? READ MORE That’s exactly what happened, and it’s happened to me a lot in my career. I tend to be a very lucky person. My wife reminds me of that all the time, and this is yet another stroke of good luck, especially because the call came from Y&R. Every actor who works on soaps flips channels in his dressing room and every time I landed on Y&R I’d find the acting to be fantastic. I wasn’t laughing at anything. Nothing seemed hokey and stupid. The production values were great. The writing was better than most. And now, on my first day here, I picked up my scripts and could not believe it. There wasn’t one sentence or phrase that was hinky, nothing I felt had to be fixed, and that’s really refreshing. There’s total organization at Y&R. The characters are solid, and the stories are character-driven from what I can tell. And all the actors are exemplary. There isn’t a weak link in the whole bunch and I’ve never done a show where that’s been the case.
Casting carousel at The Young and the Restless. TV Guide Magazine is reporting that Y&R has recast the role of Tucker McCall, currently portrayed by William Russ, with daytime favorite Stephen Nichols. Nichols will first appear on Jan 27.
The Y&R execs have kept their statements brief. Co-exec producer/head writer Maria Arena Bell says: “William Russ is a talented actor and we enjoyed working with him. However, we decided to take the character in another direction.” Adds co-exec producer Paul Rauch: “[Russ] did a wonderful job while he was here.”
