Lynn Herring: "Daytime is a Lot Classier Than People Think"

Soap vixen Lynn Herring dished with On Air On Soaps' Michael Fairman about her thoughts of the status of daytime and former alma mater, General Hospital.

MICHAEL: So while you were finishing your run on As the World Turns, sadly, Guiding Light concluded. I was wondering what your feelings were, stepping back in to this genre at this very tumultuous time? What was that like for you?

LYNN: I had lunch with Jane Eliot (Tracy, GH) and we discussed how the audience was so articulate about Guiding Light and how much they loved the show and were so sad when it ended, and that on GH, Mafia and bad violence has turned people away. The networks don’t get that our viewers are so intuitive and smart. Even GH people, who had never watched GL and are faithful to their show, understood what it meant to lose a show like that. Daytime is a lot classier than people think, and it hurt to be back on daytime and see what has happened in the genre. I love this genre!

Herring also sounds off on pal Stuart Damon getting the shaft on GH and The Young and the Restless' treatment of its veteran actors. READ MORE

Tika Sumpter Says Fish Coming Out Was "A Brilliant Story"

One Life To Live' showstopper Tika Sumpter talks with Michael Fairman about her character's discovery that ex-boyfriend/roommate Oliver's (Scott Evans) was gay with Advocate.com.

I thought it was a brilliant story. I felt like we built our relationship in a way that people would believe that Layla did not know Fish was gay. I did not want to play dumb. I think she did not want to believe it, even if all the signs were there. I think she believed she fell in love with a really good guy who treated her well. She has never had a successful relationship, and she finally found a guy who she wanted to be with and who wanted to be with her, or so she thought. I was happy for Scott Evans [Fish], and I loved working with him. I knew it would reach a lot of people, so it was worth all the tears Layla and I had to shed.

Thom Bierdz Says "Six Month Contract Is Up"

Thom Bierdz chatted with Advocate.com's Michael Fairman and explained his lack of screen time on The Young and the Restless.

Here is the thing; I know I am on in eight episodes in November and then the truth is, I sort of disappear. My six-month contract is up. And I really want to support the gay community, and I want the gay community to support me. I would like the gay community to write to CBS and say, ‘We want a gay character on the air,’ and I want to be that.

Greg Vaughan Says Firing Was "A Bit Of A Shock"

Greg Vaughan spoke with On Air On Soaps' Michael Fairman on the heels of his firing from General Hospital, and reveals how he got the pink slip.

MICHAEL:
So how did you find out the final nail in your version of Lucky’s coffin?

GREG:
It was a bit of shock and there was a call that was made. I went in knowing one of three things; A) I was going to be fired, B) I was going to be put on recurring, C) There was a story coming. But usually your executive does not call you with a story, that is usually done by your head writer, and that only happened once to me in seven years. So I sort of prepared myself going in to it and going in just at ease and peace. It’s not what you want to hear, but if you go in knowing you are a little bit more reserved, and that was my approach.  READ MORE

Y&R Stars Sound Off On Eric Braeden's Contract Dispute

On Air On Soaps' Michael Fairman caught up with some of The Young and the Restless' stars, including Kristoff St. John, Daniel Goddard, Sharon Case and Adrienne Franz, at the recent World Magic Awards, where they spoke out on co-star Eric Braeden's contract issues.

KRISTOFF: I think that no comment is the best policy to take when other actors are going through contract talks. I don’t believe Eric Braeden will leave the canvas as the character of Victor Newman, but if he does, it would be sad to see him go at such a critical time in the show’s history. We have a guaranteed two years left on network television. I think in order to survive and to get another contract and licensing agreement out of CBS, the wise decision would be to get him back. Is it the wisest decision for Eric to accept the terms of the contract? I don’t know, and I cannot comment on that. It would be a huge loss to the show and the audience worldwide. READ MORE

Chappell Says Otalia's Lack Of Intimacy "Unbelievable"

Crystal Chappell revealed her thoughts to soap journalist Michael Fairman regarding Guiding Light's choice to show just a tiny speck of intimacy between the popular couple "Otalia."

MICHAEL:

Any other moments that did not ring true for Otalia that was not a great twist on the story?

CRYSTAL:

To get back to your earlier question, there should have been more affection between the two women after they admitted their feelings and had the sex conversation. (She laughs) If anything, it’s unbelievable that there was not a little more affection shown.  I have had these conversations with people where they go, “I don’t want to see them slurping kissing,” and I go, “Well, I don’t want to see two dogs kiss like that. You know what I am saying?  I don’t want to see two people slurping and slopping, either.”  I think people get things in their minds about love scenes and that they have to be tasteless.  What I think would have been wonderful is just a simple romantic mutual kiss. It’s almost the simpler the better.  That would have been my choice, not that there is anything wrong with some good hot stuff.  I think it’s the image of what people have in their heads.  I think you have to swing it back and have it all somewhere in the middle, and be open to that, and then it’s a really beautiful thing.  READ MORE
