Star-crossed lovers Gary and Valene Ewing (Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark) shared a reunion on Monday night's episode of TNT's Dallas that was more bitter than sweet. The way brilliant Dallas 2.0 writer Cynthia Cidre has it scripted, Gary and Val—who were blissfully reunited at the end of Knots Landing and still together in 1997 reunion movie Knots Landing: Back to the Cul-de-Sac—have now split, due to Gary falling off the wagon and bankrupting the couple!
While the Knots fan boy in me was a bit brokenhearted to learn Gary and Val hadn't lived a life of happy barbecues with neighbors Karen and Mac Mackenzie (Michele Lee and Kevin Dobson) on Southern California's fictional Seaview Circle, the Wishful Storyteller in me realized Gary and Val's golden years crisis could serve as the perfect launching pad for a new generation of marital melodramas via a Knots Landing continuation! Young and Restless beauty Eva Marcille is continuing to extend her 15 minutes of fame with every move. The model-turned-actress has booked a new BET reality show called Played By Fame. In the show, Marcille, along with former soap star Lamman Rucker (As The World Turns, All My Children) and other celebs will participate in pranking unsuspecting fans who think they are getting a dream date with their fave stars or starlets, but like the BET afternoon dating show Hell Date, the fans dream encounters will turn into a nightmare. Sigh, why isn't Rucker playing the lead on a primetime series?
Essence magazine has released its annual "Do Right Men" list celebrating their picks of 50 sexy, single and successful black men. Making the cut this year is daytime graduate Lamman Rucker (As The World Turns, All My Children).
Rucker generated Shemar Moore-esque buzz when Marshall, the cocky, alpha male attorney he played was paired opposite Tamara Tunie's Jessica on As The World Turns. The P&G sudser made a grievous error when they aborted the liquid hot coupling by having Marshall rape Jessica.
All My Children scribes unfortunately must have been paying attention when they decided to write Rucker's second soap turn as Mimi Frye's love interest Garrett as a creepy child molester who targeted Mimi's daughter Danielle. Daytime's loss has definitely been the big screen's gain as Rucker has done star turns in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? and Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns. Congrats!
