Anderson Cooper Tapes CNN Pilot With Kathy Griffin; Did NBC Approach Him to Replace Matt Lauer?

Just how many new shows can Anderson Cooper do?  According to Deadline, the journalist and Kathy Griffin filmed a pilot for CNN. The website is also reporting NBC approached Cooper to replace Today's embattled Matt Lauer.

I hear NBC toppers recently reached out to CNN’s Anderson Cooper to replace Lauer on the show before the end of the year. After their initial approach to Cooper, I hear NBC reached out to Lauer to get his blessing about the changeover. But I heard they got pushback from the Today veteran, who contacted Cooper to express his disapproval. I also hear that call caught Cooper by surprise, as he had assumed Lauer had been brought on board before NBC began making overtures.

Did Natalie Morales Get Kathy Griffin Banned From Today?

How many times can one person be banned from a single TV show? Kathy Griffin must be setting some sort of record trying to find out.  According to USA Today, Griffin revealed she has been banned from The Today Show yet again, but this time by Natalie Morales. Griffin bumped into Morales at a Golden Globes after party. Apparently, Morales felt Griffin was rude to her and had her banned from appearing on Today.  According to Griffin,

What I heard from their team is that I was rude to her at the Golden Globes. Which is funny because I didn't go to the Golden Globes. But I did go to Golden Globes parties which I didn't really belong at, so I know for a fact that I did a few interviews there, but I really knew that it wasn't my place to even be there." Griffin says she doesn't remember seeing Morales at the Globes parties, or turning down an interview request.

Having Griffin banned from Today seems to be almost a rite of passage for members of the show’s team. Reportedly, Katie Couric and Matt Lauer each had Griffin banned at different times.

OUCH! Elisabeth Hasselbeck Calls Kathy Griffin "Scum"

Looks like someone has been blasting Drake's I'm Goin' In. The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed comedienne Kathy Griffin for her remarks regarding Sen. Scott Brown's (R-MA) daughters.  Griffin made a joke on her Bravo reality series, My Life On The D- List, regarding Brown's daughters being prostitutes. During the ABC gabfest's hot topics segment, the ladies weighed in on if the joke was appropriate or not. Both Hasselbeck and her co-host Whoopi Goldberg agreed Griffin's joke was one done in poor taste while Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd had different takes on the situation. That didn't stop there for Hasselbeck. Watch the entire debate and Griffin's joke after the jump.  READ MORE

Kassie DePaiva Caught Between Warring Hasselbeck and Griffin on The View

I would love to hear what body language experts would make of Elisabeth Hasselbeck's posturing in the presence of comedienne Kathy Griffin, Tuesday on The View. Griffin appeared on the gabfest to dish the news season of her hit Bravo series, Kathy Griffin: My Life of the D-List.

Hasselbeck, who Griffin has skewered relentless in her comedy, confronted the funny lady about her "untrue"  "not funny" jokes.  Poor guest co-host Kassie DePaiva, from The View's studio mate One Life to Live, was caught in the middle of this Made-for-TV trainwreck. She's probably used to it, the way those Cramer women cut up. De Paiva no doubt felt like she was on the La Boulaie set!

How much do you wanna bet this little coffee klatch, cat scratch session will make its way into the D-lister's act and series this season? Kathy Griffin: My Life of the D-List premiered Tuesday night on Bravo. Check your local listings, but before you do,  watch the clip of Griffin and Hasselbeck's skirmish after the jump!

More Random Thoughts About Five Soaps

My absence from Daytime Confidential lately has not been due to the usual business of family and work taking up a lot of my time, but rather a certain lack energy to post about practically any of the daytime serials that clog up my DVR from day to day. This is neither a positive nor a negative thing because there are frequent periods throughout the year when shows kind of coast along and do their their thing, usually between sweeps.

At these times, there is little for the viewer — if that viewer is me — to get all worked up about this plot twist, that character's action, some couple or another or even a whole show's direction. Normally, this state of affairs hits one or two shows at a time. Every once in a while like the last couple of weeks, the stars align and all the serials get caught in the same momentum of drift. All that is required of us is to watch and see where it all goes.

In that spirit, my brain plays a little game of soap opera hopscotch, taking in odds and ends big and small. There is no great elaboration on anything here, just a quick rundown of things I like and not like so much. Your mileage may vary... READ MORE
