Now That The Arbitration is Done, Will We Get More "Dick" on Y&R?

Shick vs. Phick vs. Phack vs. Shadam vs...Dick? That's right The Young and the Restless lovers, those intense fan base wars received a new dynamic the moment Diane Jenkins (Maura West) first bedded her ex's son Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) in a scorching hot scene on the sudser.

During a telephone chat between Morrow and bloggers earlier this week, I piggybacked off of Buzzworthy Radio's NaVell J. Lee's question about how the fallout from the arbitration will impact Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick's relationship to ask if their would be any more "Dick" in our lives on Y&R. Here's what the hunky actor had to say:

Daytime Confidential: You mentioned that Nick is still in love with Sharon. A lot of fans have really enjoyed his relationship with Diane played by Maura West. Do you think we’ll see anything further with that thread now that his father’s back in his mother's orbit? Will there be a free chance for Nick and Diane?

Joshua Morrow: You know, I’m not sure where Nick and Diane are headed. It’s a pretty tough thing to be able to get past, to start to develop a relationship with a woman and then find out she’s been lying to you behind your back and sleeping with your father. I know it’s a soap opera where people tend to forgive people for pretty intense things, but I don’t know how they can build anything after that happened. Nick is a very…he’s got a lot of pride in him and I think it really threw him that she would go down this path with his father, as well as him. So again, I’m not sure. I know they were building to something, but it would be a tough pill to swallow, I think, for me in real life if found that happening.

Young and Restless Hunk Joshua Morrow on Nick Newman: "It's Just Not In Him to Be Like His Father"

Don't tell The Young and the Restless heartthrob Joshua Morrow the apple didn't fall far from a Wisconsin tree in terms of  his character Nick Newman being similar to his malevolent father Victor (Eric Braeden) on the sudser. According to the good looking thesp, while Nick has his father's corporate ambitions, he has his mother's heart and that's how the actor, who's played the Newman scion since 1994, likes it.

"Everybody always said from the day I joined the show, 'He’s the next Victor, he’s the next Victor,' and I completely disagree with that. Nick is nothing like his father," says Morrow, who spoke with a group of bloggers earlier today about the end of Y&R's riveting arbitration story arc on Tuesday.  "He is very driven and ambitious, but he has no desire to succeed the way his father did. He isn’t willing to do anything to anyone at anytime."

Who Needs Characterization on The Young and the Restless?

Although the November Sweeps ship has sailed, I am amazed at the number of Whodunits, MIA’s and Dead Men Walking on The Young and the Restless. Sadly, these casualties I speak of are not part of the current storylines. I’m referring to the shocking personality changes of key characters which have rendered them virtually unrecognizable to the viewers who love them. Seeing characters get hacked away is akin to watching a bad horror movie: You hear the eerie music and the revving of the chainsaws, but you hope against hope the assailant won’t be so savage, or that the victim will escape in a nick of time. Let’s pour some out for the characters who are no longer here with us.

The Big Sleazy: Why TPTB Are Gonna Have to Work Hard For Fans to Buy Shadam on The Young and the Restless

Adam (Michael Muhney) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) New Orleans rendezvous has many fans up in arms and hotly protesting their possible reunion on The Young and the Restless. Bionic Adam has committed some truly reprehensible crimes, including tormenting Ashley (Eileen Davidson) to the point of a miscarriage and pushing her into a psychological meltdown; stealing Sharon and Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) newborn to pass it off as Ashley’s child and being an accessory, at the very least, in the murder of terminally ill, single father Richard Hightower.

Just as Shick fans were rejoicing over the righting of an egregious wrong (the Phick affair heard around the soap world), Junior tracked Sharon to the Big Easy and wielded his dark charms, sending the chronically-indecisive blonde into sex-induced tizzy. I have already expressed my lukewarm feelings toward Nick and Sharon: Part Deux, but my soapy soul wretches at the thought the former Mrs. Newman getting caught in Adam’s crosshairs. C’mon, son! This man wooed and wed a woman when she was suffering from the crippling "loss" of a second child—a loss inflicted by his hand— all the while knowing the baby she was mourning was very much alive. He befriended another fragile woman by day and gaslit her by night. He instigated a bloodthirsty competition between his father and siblings, then tried to take over the family empire. Nick is not a prince by far, but I can’t see how Sharon could feel anything but disgust for Adam Newman. READ MORE
