The year of James Franco keeps on growing. The actor stops by The View Friday to discuss his latest flick, Rise of the Planet of the Apes along with co-star Freida Pinto. The flick is slated to hit theaters Friday, August 5.
It looks like someone forgot to tell James Franco he was returning to General Hospital this September. Port Charles' oddest visitor since Casey The Alien told Access Hollywood while he would be returning to the soap eventually, he had no idea about the Sept. 20 airdate reported by TV Guide.
Buzz from the set is the GH brass was in fact told by Franco's team he'd be making appearance this fall, and they're just as shocked by his apparent cluelessness as we are. I guess we'll just have to stay tuned to see if Franco busts up JaSam's wedding after all. Personally, I'd get more excited over a visit from one Blackie Parrish.
Now this is one guest I am glad to see register for the upcoming JaSam wedding! TV Guide's Michael Logan is exclusively reporting goofy madman Franco (James Franco) is coming back to General Hospital this fall, just in time for Jason Morgan's (Steve Burton) nuptials with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco). Remember when James Franco’s friend Kalup Linzy performed on General Hospital? Well, the pair has released a new music video for “Rising,” a single off their album collaboration Turn It Up. I’m not sure how many albums the video will help sell, but when it comes to any Franco endeavor, that may not be the point. Decide for yourself after watching the “Rising” video after the jump.
When the news broke that Tyler Christopher was handed his pink slip at General Hospital, my immediate reaction was not one of shock. Once confirmed and the dust settled, I thought about what it all really meant for GH and the canvas surrounding Christopher’s character Nikolas Cassadine. Of course my second thought was that our own Luke Kerr was crying over one of the last Cassadines left leaving Port Charles. Is that the problem? Nikolas being our only real connection to the iconic Cassadines? With no story for the Cassadine family, is there a reason to keep the main connection to them?
I know, I know, he’s Laura Spencer’s (Genie Francis) son and what I’m about to say next may shock some of you. Should GH hold onto a character that is seemingly going nowhere based on a hope that IF Francis and ABC were to strike a deal, the onscreen mother and son could share a handful of scenes? Shocking, coming from me, who values the connections to characters' pasts, but it’s not Nikolas’ familial ties that I am struggling with. It’s the obvious lack of direction for this character and the Cassadines that seems to be plaguing the writer’s table. Yes, we still have Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and her girls, but the longing that Sam (Kelly Monaco) fans have had for her to explore her Cassadine roots have fallen on deaf ears.
While I'm sitting here chewing on my nails, waiting for Toups to post the full ratings for the week of Feb. 21 over at Soap Opera Network, I'll have to settle for an ABC press release for now. According to the Mouse House, General Hospital was the No. 1 program among women 18-49 for the week, tied with CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless at 1.3 in the most coveted demo. This was the first time GH was at the top of W18-49 since Oct. of 2008. Well, it took long enough, but it looks like the return of Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo (Brenda) and/or the stunt casting of the worst Academy Awards host in history aka James Franco (Franco) finally paid off! For ABC's press release in full keep reading after the jump. READ MORE
