DC #723: The Great General Hospital Debate
By Daytime Confidential on June 04, 2013
On today’s Daytime Confidential podcast Luke Kerr, Jamey Giddens and Melodie Aikels debate the latest All My Children, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, One Life to Live and The Young and the Restless headlines and storylines, including:
The Young and the Restless aired a beautiful tribute to soap icon Jeanne Cooper. From the stars who gathered to share their memories to the gang’s favorite moments, the DC crew dishes it all.
Y&R's No. 1 stunner, Dylan (Steve Burton), gets a new pal, portrayed by Sean Carrigan. Is this really necessary? Carmine manipulates Fen into telling his parents not to stay together. Should Fen develop feelings for Carmine?
The previous week of General Hospital was the most controversial in recent memory. Fans across the web, on social media and in Daytime Confidential comment threads weighed in on the revelation of Roger Howarth portraying loathed villain Franco. General Hospital’s multiple rape storyline threads also had fans up in arms.
Did the show go too far, or was it all still entertaining? One co-host feels GH was too cavalier with the topic of rape, while others on the panel felt the soap has being mired in rape since Luke and Laura's romance began and if anything the new regime was working to undo some of that nasty history.
Should the soap have phased the Llanview Three back in over time, to reduce confusion for viewers who aren’t plugged in to the online community? Did GH stack the deck against Emme Rylan, as Lulu? The DC gang doesn’t agree on much about the controversial week, but they all came together because of Maura West’s brilliant performance as Ava.

Can We Get a Lulu, Dante and Maxie Triangle on General Hospital?
By Regan Cellura on April 25, 2013

The moment Maxie (Kirsten Storms) lost Lulu (Emme Rylan) and Dante's (Dominic Zamprogna) precious cargo on General Hospital and wound up impregnated with Spinelli's (Bradford Anderson) spawn, we knew the end result of Maxie's lying would be Spinelli finding out about his impending fatherhood. Maybe the reveal will happen after the little whippersnapper made his or her appearance, but either way, every Spixie fan is on pins and needles for this baby to reunite Maxie and Spinelli. Add Ellie's (Emily Wilson) resistance to ever birthing a child of her own into the mix, and that girl stands zero chance of ever breaking down a single Spixie soldier. READ MORE
INTERVIEW: General Hospital’s Kirsten Storms on Maxie’s Two Dads and Two Lulus
By Regan Cellura on April 17, 2013
The celebration of General Hospital’s first 50, glorious years gave me the opportunity to have a little chat with scene stealer Kirsten Storms (Maxie). At the recent Paley Center event, Storms and I chatted about her exiting pal Julie Marie Berman (ex-Lulu), returning friend Kristen Alderson (formerly Starr; soon-to-be a new character) and Maxie’s two dads, Frisco (Jack Wagner) and Mac (John J. York).
Storms also reveals if she’s filmed with Emme Rylan, who recently started airing as Lulu, and shared some sage words Jane Elliot (Tracy) shared when Berman departed the role.
Daytime Confidential: I know you’re really good friends with Julie Marie Berman. Those final scenes the two of you had together were simply amazing.
Kirsten Storms: It was so horrible.
DC: Now we have a new Lulu. Have you filmed with Emme Rylan yet?
KS: I have, yes, a lot over the last few days especially and she’s a great girl. I know she came from a couple of soaps, so I had mad respect for her when she started. Jane Elliot said it perfectly when I was talking to her about Julie leaving, it’s not that I miss her as Lulu; it’s just painful that she won’t be there for me at work. My work life is around hanging out with her for the most part, getting into trouble, doing those sorts of things with Julie. READ MORE
