In 2006, she took over one of the most popular, young adult roles in the history of CBS Daytime's No. 1 soap — and more than made it her own. In 2013, however, The Young and the Restless alum Davetta Sherwood (ex-Lily Winters) is going hard on cable.
The talented actress is starring as feisty stylist Cecile on Fuse's first-ever scripted drama, The Hustle. I recently caught up with an all-grown-up Sherwood, who dished about her new gig in creator Prentice Penny's (Happy Endings) dramedy.
Daytime Confidential: Congratulations on being cast as Cecile in Fuse's premiere, scripted drama, The Hustle. What can you tell us about your character?
Davetta Sherwood: I play Kutta’s [one of the rappers from the group] baby mom. She’s a mother and a stylist. And despite not being with Kutta, she is still trying to have her career as well as keep a cordial relationship with her child’s father. She kind of helped him get on and she still cares about him. But now she is dating someone and trying to live her life.
Have you been wondering what former The Young and the Restless star Davetta Sherwood has been up to since exiting the role of Lily Winters? Well have I got news for you! The talented, young actress stars as fashionista Cecile in Fuse's upcoming, premiere scripted drama The Hustle.
From creator Prentice Penny (Happy Endings, Scrubs, Girlfriends), The Hustle is a dramedy in the vein of HBO's Entourage, only instead of the film industry being the backdrop, The Hustle is set in the world of hip-hop. Fuse just picked up the series for six, half-hour episodes. Watch a couple of videos about the series, including one with Sherwood talking about her character, after the jump! READ MORE
Rock On. Looks like Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) will be without her friend-with-benefits for a good part of the summer as Daniel (Michael Graziadei) heads off on tour with his pop rocker pop Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) this May 27. Soap Opera Weekly Online is reporting the in demand Graziadei will be filming a role in a movied called The Reef.
Young and the Restless is bringing back Damian's Danny to facilitate Daniel's onscreen absence as the elder Romalotti asks his son to head out on the road with him in hopes of patching up their rocky relationship. Look for Graziadei's Daniel to return to Genoa City in July. Hey, I wonder if while out on the road Daniel might bump into Davetta Sherwood's Lily and Adrianne Leon's Colleen and convince them to come home and replace the pod people currently occupying those roles? Just a thought.
All My Children is reportedly casting Cassie the daughter Angie (Debbie Morgan) and Jacob (Darnell Williams) adopted on the Loving spinoff The City. Who would be better to take on the role than Young and the Restless alum Davetta Sherwood (ex-Lily)?
During Sherwood's brief run replacing Christel Khalil as Lily on Y&R, Sherwood proved that original doesn't always mean "real". Sherwood's take on Lily was street smart, sassy and realistic. It was easy to believe she was the daughter of Victoria Rowell's Dru. Many fans-including this one-cried foul when Khalil decided she wanted her old role back-after having left of her own accord-and Y&R booted Sherwood.
Can't you just see Sherwood in scenes with soap legends Morgan and Williams? She would also be a great romantic interest for Dre Woods (Sterling Sulieman) and a potential rival for Pine Valley teen queen Colby Chandler (Ambyr Childers). Then if they could only get Marcy Walker back as Colby's mom and Jesse and Angie's worst nightmare Liza Colby, I might start watching AMC more regularly again, that is unless I see someone eating pancakes.
