The awful news about the cancellation of As The World Turns also reached the Netherlands this week. The Netherlands is one of the few countries where the show airs and in the 20 years on the air it has always been a success. It has even earned higher ratings than The Bold and the Beautiful. In the Netherlands episodes from June 2008 are airing right now which means that the last episode will air in 2012.
Entertainment show RTL Boulevard talked about the cancellation on Wednesday's episode of their show. You can watch that clip (with English subtitles) after the jump. READ MORE

Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara Ryan, As the World Turns) was the subject of two separate articles in recent editions of Redding Pilot.com, a publication centered on local news in Zenk Pinter's Connecticut hometown. The first discussed Zenk Pinter's partnership with the Oral Cancer Foundation, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Roswell Park Cancer Institute of Buffalo N.Y. to serve as a spokesperson for oral cancer. Although she is now cancer free, she has become a strong voice for a cancer she feels people don't know enough about. READ MORE
In a recent interview with As the World Turns' Colleen Zenk Pinter TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco discusses the arrival of Tom Pelphrey at ATWT, Pinter's battle with throat cancer and asks if Guiding Light's cancellation kicked ATWT into gear.
TVG: Do you think Guiding Light’s cancellation kicked everyone’s asses into gear?
CZP: When it comes down to it, yes it did. It made us all realize we need to re-think how we tell story and re-focus our direction when it comes to what the fans really want. I think we’re returning to our history. You saw that with James Stenbeck’s comeback, you see that with the “Never Surrender” tour, and having our old favourites back like Kim, Nancy, Lisa and Lucinda. And sometimes, all the vets are on the same episode! [Laughs] The fans don’t want to see the younger characters on screen 24/7. Viewers want a balance. And that applies to all the soaps. When you shove any kind of generational character or group down the fans’ throats, at some point, they are going to say, “enough!” We’ve taken that into consideration. It’s make it or break it time. We can’t abandon the viewers we have. Yes, it may still be possible to attract new viewers, and I think we have with the Nuke storyline, but we have to keep the fans we have and/or rein back the ones we lost because attracting viewers is very, very rare these days.
