Wishful Casting: Singing Soap Stars Who Would (Country) Rock a TV Adaptation of John Schlimm's Novel 'Twang'

For the past few weeks I've been raving about country music publicist-turned-novelist John Schlimm's soapy, fiction debut Twang. The novel about a scandalous, secret tell-all being penned about honky tonk duo The Field Sisters and Nashville royalty Thad Evans and Hope Tanner (threatening to reveal their most shocking secrets to their fans), reads like the pilot for a soap that could be called Desperate Nashville Wives. This got me to thinking, wouldn't it be great if some of our daytime soap faves—many of whom happen to know a thing or three about singing a little "twang"—be perfect for a TV adaption of Schlimm's book?

All My Children's Walt Willey Talks "Big, Sloppy, Sharply-Pointed Quadrangle"

All My Children veteran Walt Willey chewed the fat with TV Guide's Michael Logan about Jack's latest romantic predicament.

TV Guide Magazine: How do you feel about this triangle? From the get-go it seemed like Jack would end up the odd-man out.

Willey: Well, it ain't over yet! And, actually, now that Krystal [Bobbie Eakes] is involved, it's really more like a big, sloppy, sharply pointed quadrangle. If you look at any of the polls, the fans really want to see Jack and Erica together but the writers don't seem to come up with a story for them as a couple. They're Moonlighting, they're Nick and Nora, as clever and funny as can be, but it's always the Sturm und Drang that carries us away.

ABC Daytime Stars Get Their Musical Theatre on in Support of LA Gay and Lesbian Center

Some of ABC Daytime's best and brightest came out on Oct. 7 to perform in The World Goes Round, a Broadway muscial revue to support the LA Gay and Lesbian Center.  Soaps.com caught up with several of the talented performers, including Brandon Barash (Johnny, General Hospital), who sang a song about Sara Lee baked goods, in addition to helping up the hunk factor during a bit performed by All My Children's Bobbie Eakes (Krystal).

After a month of working all day on the set and then rehearsing a few hours every night for "The World Goes Round," Barash, who hadn't done a musical in 13 years, admitted it was exhausting. "It's been a scramble, but it's all come together in the last week or two and we're excited with our product."

As for his alter ego, Johnny Zacchara, he had no idea what was to come for the mobster, but he's ready for anything. When asked what he'd like to see for Johnny, Brandon replied, "Something, 'cause he's been kind of stagnant lately. Something other than him griping about this sister because I think that ship has sailed."
