While ABC Daytime's struggling talker The View does precious little to promote the lineup's flagship serial General Hospital these days (Wish we could say the same for The Chew!), CBS Daytime has managed to create the perfect mixture of suds, game shows and a fun, light-hearted chatfest to highlight them all.
In a new, extensive report from Broadcasting & Cable, CBS Daytime V.P Angelica McDaniel discussed how The Talk compliments soaps The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. Said McDaniel:
"With the addition of The Talk, we’ve found a formula that works for us with dramas, game and talk,” says McDaniel, CBS Daytime's senior VP. “It may have been controversial at the time to let go of a soap to bring on a talk show, but The Talk is now a platform for us to highlight our soap stars.”
Variety has released a list of the top power players in the daytime television world. The entertainment industry’s most trusted trade paper named CBS Daytime Vice President Angelica McDaniel, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom and General Hospital showrunner Frank Valentini among their Daytime TV impact honorees.
Variety stated about McDaniel:
With a deft ability to balance daytime’s big three genres — game, talk and drama — McDaniel has effectively injected a dose of synergy across CBS’ slate. Promoted to daytime honcho in February 2012, she’s created crossovers between everything from Let’s Make a Deal and The Bold and the Beautiful to The Talk and The Young and the Restless. She’s also upped the net’s interactivity on the web. “I’m proud of our efforts and progress on social media,” she says. “I’m active on Twitter with fans of the shows, and when we have good interaction,” it helps enhance the product CBS delivers.

Here's what the exec, who supervises The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, said about the One Life to Live and All My Children reboots in the latest edition of Soap Opera Uncensored:
“From a business development, it’s really interesting to see how they do. Even as a great case study to see how the shows will be received by the fans. Dramas have passionate, hard-core fans so it will be great to see how these shows will hold up in a new medium. It’s also great to have more proof to the naysayers who said soaps were dead just even a few months ago — let alone a year ago. Actually, that’s not true: all four soaps are up in the ratings across the networks and we have two soaps coming online. We know soaps are here to stay. Not very long ago, CBS Daytime appeared to be a big, expensive, luxury liner headed straight for an iceberg. Lucky for fans of soaps, talk shows and old school gamers, Angelica McDaniel stepped in to steer the Tiffany Network's daytime lineup to calmer, more lucrative waters.
In a new interview with Xfinity's Sara Bibel, the CBS Daytime V.P. goes in depth on how she managed to find the cross-promotional balance that has her five series all achieving ratings growth.

Why do you think soaps are growing now? They were written off for dead a year ago.
There’s a lot of different reasons. But one of them is I think that four is actually a really good number. There were times when there were 17 soaps on television. Obviously that was a few decades ago but at CBS we always say we have a good balance of talk, drama and game. You can’t just weight too much on one genre of the other. You have to create balance. For us, we found that balance. We also have great stories that we’re telling. “The Bold and the Beautiful,” when everybody was saying, “dramas are dying,” Bold was increasing. They’ve been doing it for over a year now so it’s really great to see Y&R and all the other soaps on the other networks starting to find their rhythm and finds what’s working and goes viral.

CBS just doubled down on their support for their daytime lineup. The Tiffany Network has renewed The Price Is Right, Let's Make A Deal, The Bold and The Beautiful and The Talk for the 2013-2014 TV season. In a released statement, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said:
Over the past few years, we have successfully transitioned our daytime schedule to a balance of program genres with new creative energy.
