Forgotten Era of Y&R
I found this on YT, it is rough but viewable cut but this a whole episode of Y&R from '1975. It has the "classic score" people are TALKING about on the boards with rare never heard today the lyrics to Y&R's theme at closing credits!
Y&R was barely 2 years old and tempo is SET already by Bill on how this soap will deliver story....styles have change but Bill's tempo was a constant.
It has everything Tom Selleck, Jamie Lyn Bauer, Janice Lynde, Dorthy Green, Robert Colbert, Pamela Solow (Peggy Brooks), Tom Hallick. It's heavy Brooks family, evolving around Jennifer's cancer. The original sister feud between Lori & Leslie, it was the time to post it. All about family dynamics!
2 people wrote this 30 minute soap.....Bill Bell & Kay Alden....2 PEOPLE!
It's called vision.
Enjoy! I did

harlee490, thank you for those scenes. I'm always fascinated by scenes of Y&R before the early nineties when I started watching.
Typical soap scenes on all the soaps are only half as long as they used to be back then. And the ones from the eighties are only half as long as the ones from previous decades. Actors really used to earn their Emmys.
Classic and excellent viewing clip of Mr Chancellor & Kay signing divorce papers in '1975. The ulimate drunk in the town of GC..Katherine clutching her bottle and her glass!
I loved how Bill wrote Katherine in the '70s because he didn't rush her AA, literally through all of '70s Katherine was drunk cleaning up her actions, sleeping with stable boys etc.
I was 14 and should had known I was a big fag!
I can remember i thought Mr. C was SOOO handsome and not in str8 way...go figure...LOL

I think that's about how old I was when I first saw Brian Bloom as Dusty Donovan on ATWT. I could not take my eyes off the screen.

SA you are welcome why I posted the clips with the anniversary coming up and gives some fans a chance to see why Y&R is and has stayed at #1. By the time mid -"70s Y&R was growing by leaps and bounds it rose out of what (14) soaps to number 4-5 position because of Bill's storytelling and talents. Y&R has NEVER been dead last in the ratings even when it started because the strength of CBS daytime and how CBS sandwiched in between with ATWT which at the time was top dog in ratings. But AW was the hot ticket at #2
Dusty (OH Brian) was a hottie with Lily. I liked the fact Dusty not Holden popped Lily's cherry. It was Lily & Dusty in the beginning not Lily & Holden
Y and R was famous for it's long scenes and slow storytelling. I personally always have loved it. And you'd usually have only two characters in each scene that was like 5-7 minutes long.
I remember the first couple of episode that had LML all over them. Quick cuts from scene to scene. HATED IT.
harlee490, Thank you so much for posting these vintage clips of Y&R. Loved seeing the Brooks' sisters, Jed, Jennifer, Kay, the Jills, etc. To me, Bill Bell's effective usage of flashbacks of the Jill and Kay rivalry is one of the reasons why Brenda worked in the role of Jill. We could see Jill's transformation over time and understand her disdain for Kay. It took me some time to warm up to Jess but she has truly made the role her own.
Also, loving your avator of Vanessa and Lorie Prentiss
I hope that Lorie and all of the Brooks' sisters could return for the 40th anniversary - wishful thinking
thanks, to all of you all.
