I don't see how Lily fans (they do exist, though I am not one of them) would possibly be happy with this. I'm sorry, but Lily should be a more significant character than she is. Recurring makes no sense to me in the grand scheme of things. Sony/CBS would have been better off cutting their losses with CK and gettting a full time actress willing to be in a contract role. How can the character become a more A-story character if she's stuck on 2 days every other week with TEH BABIES or playing schmoopies with Cane until he lies to her (again)?
And there I was getting all excited over Lily getting involved in business SLs and playing with the big kids (besides Cane). Silly me! *le sigh*
This is what I'm trying to understand. As she is Dru's only progeny on this show, I'm a fan of what Lily the character 'could' be, so I'm not understanding how CK going recurring is beneficial for Lily.
Like you said, this severely limits any major story potential they ever intended with this character. Kudos I guess to CK for getting exactly what she wanted, but why does she have to take the Lily character out with her?
The ONLY female character of color on daytime these days with even a smidge of importance, and tiic don't even have to pretend to care, b/c the actress is recurring. Any future argument made about the marginalization of this character will simply be rebutted by tiic with a simple, 'CK is only recurring,' as an explanation. SMDH

I agree with you that Lily should be more significant but I think what I heard in those Tyler Douglas auditions is still gonna happen. Lily working at Jabot and Tyler being her new love interest is the plan. I hope SID is wrong about TPTB calling off the casting call. Or if they called it off I hope its cause they've found an actress and are just waiting to announce it. I do not want TPTB dropping their plans for Lily due to CK wanting to do outside work which is really what it boils down to. I know she auditioned for some improv comedy club recently.
Okay since it appears she's staying, can we all just now wait and see what she does with her new material. For those of us who don't like her, that's what the mute button, or FF is for. For those that see the merit she's brought to the role in the past, let's be hopeful she's given another Emmy worthy story.
@pferrando: She was not good under LML when Josh G. was there. She wasn't good under Maria Arena Bell. And I mean at the beginning when things were good. You waiting to see what she does with the material is like hoping Drake Hoygston would have learned how to act on Days after many writing regimes since the late 80's when he first arrived. It ain't gonna happen. She just does not have it. And she does not want to be paired with an African American male. Sad but that's the truth.
She's had 10 years on Y&R. That ought to tell you something! 10 years! So the proof is in the pudding.
I'm fine with her in the role. I know a lot aren't. But since she's staying...move on now. Let's focus on hoping the new team shifts the show back on track.
Who in the heck does this chick think she is? She's is NOT in the same league as Jeanne, Melody, Michelle or even her former on-screen mother Victoria R (CK was one of the reasons VR left Y&R). It is a shame the show chose to dump three talented Emmy winning actresses (Debbi, Jennifer and Genie) to keep this piece of crap. CK pulled the same stunt in 2006, when she had that Lynnie Marie Latham chick fire her more superior replacement, Davetta Sherwood.
Lily is hardly ever on so why all the hate for this character and the actress? Victor Newman has done so much wrong and hurt a lot of people yet he gets all the phrase? Lily is a good person and hurts no one, if anything she is too forgiving.
To be fair, I actually think most fans dislike Victor nowadays, for the awful things he's done and being over-exposed on Y&R.
But back to the point - I like Lily and CK, and also don't get all this hate. Surely people can't think she's THAT bad of an actress - I've seen far worse actresses on Y&R during the years. Her acting style is just pretty toned down and down-to-earth, realistic imo. It seems some soap fans just don't want to see characters like that. They want to see divas and divos, bitches and bastards, to fulfill their soapy needs.
And I'm also thinking some of this hate has to do with the fact that CK and VR were at odds back then and that CK doesn't want her back. Well all I can say to that is - it's been five years since VR left, get over it already!
Yes I have seen worse actresses and wish they had recast Lily. It could still happen being recurring status. If CK stays I'm not a hater of CK but I wish being a daughter of Drucilla Barber they need an actress that remind fans of Dru's attitude not sugary sweet Lily. Her character reminds me of a very young Cricket. Things could be so much worse and this is a waste to be all up in arms over CK staying on the show. Y&R has bigger problems then CK staying.
I agree with Harlee and Yoryla too. I think it's less about her acting and really SOMETHING else. In any event those people should be happy anyway since it appears she's not on contract and won't be seen that often. I'd like to see what the new writers have in mind for her onscreen hubby anyway. He'd be good paired with someone new to mix it up.
Nina is an example of a recurring character for those who are not clear what that means although David hits it on the head.
@Ryan-Scott: Right! So is Tracey Bergman and Judith Chapman.
And there I was getting all excited over Lily getting involved in business SLs and playing with the big kids (besides Cane). Silly me! *le sigh*

I have no problem with Christel staying on the show. I actually like the actress, although Lily can be annoying sometimes.
