They were probably going to make alot of cuts anyway. He is an awful actor. Daytime is filled with not so good actors, only because of their popularity or being a "legacy" character (UGH I hate that term!).

The cuts have nothing to do with it. Y&R had to make them anyway. And even if Phelps would want to hire Steve Burton I don't think that CBS & Sony would ever sign off on it.

Jill and Steve are filming a moviie right now and once that is finished don't be surprised if Steve comes on board along with Maurice Bernard and Laura Wright

Sony & CBS are the ones who decide.

JFP is just an approriate puppet; they hired her because they knew she wouldn't hesitate to execute Sony's decision. But that is all she is - the executioner.

The cuts made this far were obvious, and more are coming. Some people seem to think it will only be about MAB hires, but no. The veteran cuts are still coming.

If and that's a BIG IF............JFP does hire Steve Burton to come on to Y&R, I will be the VERY first to remove Y&R from my DVR schedule. I've never liked GH and most of the actors/actresses from GH are no favorites of mine. I'm also still pissed with Laura Wright's acceptance speech 2 years ago when she won her Best Actress Emmy. The part that I hated was when she said, "Hell yeah, 20 years in this industry and I damn well deserve this!" (paraphrasing mind you). I thought that comment was horrible and nasty. That Emmy should have gone to Colleen Zenk who had at the time put more years into the daytime drama industry than Laura Wright. So, I cannot stand her and I also am pissed that she left GL high and dry and saddled us with a 2nd rate actress to play the role of Reva's sister Cassie.

Who would he play? Any legacy/former characters? I can't think of no one off the top of my head who he would play unless it's a new role which will piss people off more

wiggum, I could easily imagine JFP hiring SB to play Billy or JT. Or even a new role that is closely knitted/ connected to the Newmans and Abbotts.

I read that the decision was Sony's because of an inflated budget they want decreased...e.g. rumored that Genie's salary is 1/4 of Y%R total budget ; eventhough Jill is wielding the hatchet; I don't doubt for a minute she was going to cut actors. That is her MO she's always done this when she comes on board so why would she change now?

Even though you said it was a rumor, if Genie's salary truly is 1/4 of the budget then she should go. That would be just purely a wise business decision. Having said that, I'm sure Burton isn't cheap. Don't want him on the show though.

Genie's salary was 1/4 of the budget that Sony wanted CUT - not of the Y&R total casting budget. But yes, it is still a big chunk of money.

No wonder she was the first BIG fish that Sony/CBS got rid of. That doesn't surprise me.

Please don't say that GH's "Sonny" is going to Y&R. As huge a fan as I was/am of OLTL, he's the reason I cannot watch GH. There's something about him that bothers me enough to not watch. And I've been a fan of Ms. Aldersen's for years and truly miss seeing her---I guess I could just fast-forward through his scenes. Sorry, but I really don't get why he's working when people like Michael Knight and so many others are not. At least, not that I know of...

Totally agree! I thought I was the only one who when I heard Steve Burton was leaving GH, right after Jill Phelps took over Y &R, that he will eventually turn up on the show. He was one of her favorites, along with Maurice Bernard. Wonder if we'll be hearing more GH actors coming on in the future???? I understand her firing of Genie Francis and Debbi Morgan, they were awful on the show. Genie as Laura on GH and Debbi as Angie on AMC were so fabulous, it never works when they try to bring them on another soap as a different character. But I still think Steve Burton will be on Y &R,he and Jill are tight.

I don't think so. It's a matter of legacy.

Soaps could very well be gone in a few years. He spent 20 years building the legacy of a character, a character he is well-known for, and someone who is one of the top 2 or 3 stars on a show. Do you think he'll throw all of that away for MAYBE a little bit more money, and having to start over completely on a new show with a new character, and with about 5 or 6 male stars above him on the totem pole?

I don't think that they were fired to make room for SB. I mean, Marcy is coming back. I think they needed to be fired as they are not core to Y&R (and I don't know what role SB will be playing). I think they would have been fired anyway, whether SB came or not.
