ARE NOT GOOD! What we had all feared may very well end up coming true. Read the story:

http://www.highlighthollywood.com/2012/07/31/highlight-hollywood-investi...

Looks like Jill Farren Phelps is about to backburner the veterans and make the show younger and more hip! Might as well cue the funeral music folks!

UPDATE: It looks like this article was written by someone who is very, very close to Maria Arena Bell and that the article was put out there to put the scare into Y&R viewers and to make us feel guilty for wanting her to be fired from Y&R. Please do not read the article and no more postings on this thread. I consider this article a dead issue at this point in time.

If that is true it's very disappointing. IMO the veterans are the back bone of the show and without them there is no Y&R. I tend to not believe the things I read in magazines or online articles so I guess I'll have to wait and see what the new EP and HW bring to the show.

This "article" reads itself like a love letter to MAB or something being written by herself.

So many things are taken out of context. The only propose this article has is to scare soap fans. It's makes JFP the devil and MAB the misunderstood victim, who had her neck out for the vets and got fired for it in the end.

That is NOT what happened.

I'm sure that Sony hopes that JFP and JG can attract the younger audience with stories about the new generation. But I don't believe that everyone should be running around scared of what's going to come.
Sony KNOWS that the vets are getting them viewers. But look at the show right now. We see Victor, a man in his 70s, dating his former 30-something daughter-in-law. Then we have Jack in a wheelchair, boy scout Paul behind bars for shooting the arm of his psycho killer son and criminal Phyllis playing the victim after a hit and run.
This is what we are seeing right now. And I'm sorry but I want Victor on the back burner. I want him to become a mature patriarch. Not running around screwing women in his children's age.

There have to be changes! It's not "The Old and the Restless". This show needs focus! There is no younger generation at the moment.

Didn't they try that formula once before with Britney, Raul, JT & Colleen?

Yes, they did. But you have to remember, that was back in the late 1990's early 2000's, a period when daytime drama's were still pulling big numbers and a lot of the younger set didn't have Facebook, twitter or the internet for that matter. Ergo, a lot more people were watching the younger set back then. Now, that younger set has Facebook, twitter and other social media outlets and aren't watching the soaps like they used to back then.

While I agree that Y&R could benefit from a serious overhaul of some kind, I don't agree that younger viewers are the only audience they should target and the rest of us will just have to adjust. That source sure had some attitude, admitting some won't like the changes but just have to "live with it". Being in my 30's I can tell you one of the things I love about the new Dallas is the lack of teens. But as for Y&R, of course they need a younger generation, and I might not even mind if they focus more on them and backburner some stale characters like Victor, Phyllis, Jack, etc. BUT for that to hold my interest, they better recast all the younger characters or bring in new ones because I have absolutely no interest in Noah, Eden, Kyle, NuSummer or Abby (how old is she supposed to be anyways if Marcy Rylan is 31?) Although if that source is correct, what I take most from what they said is how many times it was mentioned that Sony's main goal here is saving money, which sounds like they don't really care if all these great new changes end up being as great as the changes which led to GL's demise as intended by P&G.

Y&R won't be renewed in 2014. That's what this says to me.

THE Y&R will be around for another 3 years since the ratings are high, B&B are gaining more AMC and OLTL viewers...General Hospital will be gone in spring of 2013.....
Jill farren Phelps I pray that she will make Y&R more watchable and get rid of some boring characters starting with Devin and Roxanne, Ronan, etc. and focus more on the Jabot Cosmetics, Victor vs. Jack. Nikki. Katherine and bring back the old Jill! Drucilla! Wanna see more Abbotts! Newmans!
Bring some B&B chracters to Y&R! Felicia Forrester! Thorne! Deacon! Jackie Marrone & Owen Kight! Y&R will be around for more to come!

How do you know? Daytime Confidential is as biased as any site out there. Unless you were on set when it happened, or were in the meeting where the decision was reached, you cannot confirm why she was fired.

@thebookerman: There are enough statements and reports out there to have an opinion. And you know, I've been a soap fan for a couple of years now. I know which sources to trust and which I should consider The National Enquirer of soaps.

I think that the DC gang are a group of people who have an opinion too. And they mostly are even different from each other. I don't agree with everything to are saying and I'm not shy to write this.

Maria Arena Bell is one of those stories where I can look at the facts. Where I can gather information from people who I trust are telling the truth and than I can tell you want I think about it. That I did.

This is not surprising, and I don't believe the article is slanted to Maria's favor by her 'friend.' Make no mistake that Jill will cut, cut, cut...deep into the Vets. She doesn't give a fuck about Eric or Jeanne or any others. I so hope that THEY have the upper hand with ironclad contracts (would be great if one of them has something like Beverlee McKinsey did) and can dictate their own fate.

As for me, its simple: If Adam (Mike Muhney) stays on and is given great story, I'm in...If he checks out, them I'm also done. He really drives my interest most. The other stories are just all over the place and not that interesting to watch.

Hightower, a long-time staunch supporter of MAB and Bell Family friend, wrote this article in an effort to undermine CBS and Sony's decision to finally rid themselves and Y&R viewers of that Hack MAB--I would doubt there are 10 words of truth in it!

If this truly is what is planned for the show, the ratings will plummet. There is NOTHING wrong with writing a balanced show with the older characters AND the younger set. Bill Bell did it all the time. In fact it appears MAB was getting ready to highlight some FAMILIAR younger characters by aging them. I'd be fine with that. But NOT at the expense of the heart of the show. If Kay, Jill, Jack, Victor, Nikki, etc. aren't on our screens SONY will not increase the ratings. Regardless is this is true or not, Y and R fans need some stability, not change.

Must keep Kay, Jill, Niki etc. There is no vamp, bitch, diva like Jill and I love Niki. Too bad Ashley is gone. Good actress interesting character. Love her and Traci together. Please get rid of or recast Eden, Kylie and Daisy. I actually like Abby, cute and acts like a true spoilt brat with a sweet heart (the in her). Do more with Ronan and Nina--great potential there and keep sexy Devon and sexy Daniel but give them some hot romances 9Roxanne is too tame but Heather and Danny are STEAMING. Good recast of the Heather character.

That article is slightly terrifying!!! I mean I love Hollywood Heights, but you cannot take a show like Y&R and turn into that!!! By getting rid of the vets, they will completely destroy the identity of the show; maybe they will do what they did with Another World and make people like Victor and Nikki patriarchs and matriarchs; they'd still be heavy in story, they just wouldn't be leading the stories.
