Yvonne Zima (Daisy), but does she count considering that she's almost off of Y&R?! Christel Khalil, Amelia Heinle.
Honest opinion? Ronn Moss and Michelle Stafford.
I don't get how RM could stay this long on B&B and basically learn nothing. Back in the day he was kind of good looking and everything. But since that's gone for over a decade now, you just realize how bad he really is. How many times was this guy on E!'s "The Soup"? It's embarrassing. Biggest fail: The Rick storyline, where he called out his name EVERY chance he got.
Not many might agree with me but Michelle Stafford is not a good actress in my mind. She's totally overrated. While she may not be the worst actress out there, she's certainly the one who's bugging me the most since she seems to control an entire soap. An example for her bad acting can be found in the recent past, when Phyllis had a miscarriage. These scenes were so bad I was totally embarrassed to even still watch Y&R. Biggest fail: Using every scene to AT LEAST repeat one line to what? Get emotional enough!?
I have a controversial one.
-Kimberly McCullough (Robin Scorpio, GH): KM always bored the crap out of me, and I never actually saw why people consider her such a great actor. She has dead emotionless eyes, and her delivery is just ho-hum to me. She is overrated and most of her cred comes from the fact that she grew up on camera. As a child, she was a powerhouse, but as an adult actress she just never did it for me.
Okay, you can all burn me in effigy now.
Michelle Stafford is the second best actress in daytime in my book, only behind Laura Wright who is just too good (even considering how awful Ron Carlivati's writing for her has been.)
Stafford has real reactions, she doesn't have TV reactions. I think it is one of the things Maria Arena Bell actually does well, writing the dialogue for Phyllis (not necessarily her storylines.) She screams, she freaks out, she doesn't look to the window and go on a random monologue with tears falling every 30 seconds on cue, like is the norm with this genre. She is different, but just a great actress.
Kristen Alderson is okay, but again RC's writing for her is atrocious, which is surprising since he was the one that brought her there. This revenge zombie storyline (Sonny killed my fam-il-ee!) was terrible, and with that now gone she will be better.
The worst right now on GH has to be Kristina Wagner (Felicia Jones.) Weird, absurdly high voice, she smiles during serious scenes, almost sounds like a comedian trying to be sarcastic when she tries to display emotion.
I'm a little behind on Y&R, but Amelia Heinle is really bad. Genie Francis is not at all fit for her role either, but it looks like she is trying.
I don't think anyone is worth noting negatively on B&B. That girl that was the intern and then got fired and subsequently rehired was really irritating, but I don't think she's on anymore.
@thebookerman: Want Victoria Rowell to come back and take her spot back from Spit-take! Michelle could not do what she did!
Ronn Moss is as bad as it gets for me...
not even the Zima can outdo him in bad acting....its a shame, because B&B was once like the CAPITAL of hokie acting, but now they've stepped their game up...except Mr. Moss O_o
Agree with Ron Moss.
And while I feel bad for how she was treated on twitter, nuMaxie is horrible and needs to go...
Agree about RM but I would put KKL in that same category. I dont get the appeal because she is absolutely the most overrated actress in daytime Ive ever seen and given the number of shows ive watched and the number of years Ive watched them thats saying something.
I would also say rebecca herbst. Likable actress and that comes across but aside from that I see absolutely nothing in her scenes. I also think she is afraid of an "ugly cry" and lord knows thats half of what they do in daytime. You look at LW or keMo or flo or kdp or NLG - those women cry UGLY (which is not to say they arent still absolutely beautiful) but its believable and moving because its raw and real and you can feel their gut wrenching as their heart breaks. But not anywhere near as bad as KKL. KKL and RM are in a league of their own.
Does anyone really say KKL is a good actress? She's serviceable, and is a legend because of the character she is played for years, but I don't think anyone has ever gone out their way to praise her.
It also doesn't help that they have made her character a really weird, obsessive mother who tries to live vicariously through her daughter.
sure lots of her fans say shes been gipped of a emmy nom/win time and time again. Personally I dont see it. She does a lot of that breathy speak that I cant stand and the scenes in the olive grove where she was suppose to not know where ridge was and then be surprised by the ring would have been done better by my old high school drama department. down right laughable. I sort of see hunter tylo as more what I would define as serviceable - not great, not bad, but can hit a single every time shes at the plate.
I will agree that the recent miscarriage episode was pretty excruciating; it's actually one of the very few times where I thought to myself "THIS is why soap acting has such a bad stigma". Still, on a typical day, I'd put Stafford up against any actress in daytime.
As for worst, I know everyone loves to hate on Heinle and Zima, but I'm here to inform everyone that their castmate Julia Pace Mitchell out-awfuls both of them. Talk about a baby who doesn't know where she's at; I can think of exactly one time during her entire stint on the show--it was a scene with her and Katherine arguing--where I thought she had some actual potential. That was the last time that thought crossed my mind. It's one thing to be out of your element for a couple of months--I thought that about Peter Porte but now I think he's great--but it's like groundhog day every damn day for her.
I agree with you. I think MS is overrated. Jazz hands and yelling in another actors face all the time isnt' good acting. And although the writing has been consistently bad, her scenes alone arent good enough to pull more or new viewers in at the rate Y and R needs it.
Bradford Anderson AKA Spinelli
not only is the character right down stupid with all the nicknames he gives everyone....but Spinutzzy is my pick for worst acting from GH....The character is annoying as hell when he calls Jason- stonecold...or Maxie- Maxiemista....just dumb....plus he has a feminine side....his character should have been paired up with Lucas Jones....
If I was in the writing shoes, I would have Spinutzzy get into a car crash and hit his head so hard he would forget all about the nicknames....or I would kill him off just like Maxie's other boyfriends...
I hate to say it but....Spinutzzy should already been killed off after a couple episodes....but now we have to see Matt go off, just so Spinutzzy can have his Maxiemista....
Rebecca Herbst is one of those actresses that just looks good crying and that is a talent!
I agree 100% about Ron Moss. I have not ever understood any of the appeal to him, or his character for that matter. I am a fan of KKL, though I wouldn't rate her all that close to the top of my list.
I think Michelle Stafford is a talented actress, but the quality of her performances have definitely declined, right along with the quality of the writing.
As for Bradford Anderson, I completely disagree. I think he is an extremely talented actor, stuck with a character I can't stand. While I used to enjoy Spinelli, over the years he has become one of my most hated characters on the show, but that is nothing to do with the acting.
Yvonne Zima and Julie Pace Mitchell seem to be hopeless. Both suck at dramatic scenes and are wooden and stiff with their line recitations. I have NO idea why they were ever chosen for Y&R, other than nepotism or being in the right place at the right time. Either way, they both bore me to tears.
Kirsten Alderson used to be a good younger actress, but since she moved to Port Charles, her acting has been stilted and painful to watch. She doesn't give enough powerful emotion when she needs to and it seems like she struggles to give ANY real emotion period. Watching her in scenes with powerhouse actors like Bruce Weitz and Brandon Barash just further highlight why she needs to make tracks back to Llanview.
Christel Khalil is a good actress under certain circumstances, but is simply dull and has no real stage presence. Kristian Alfonso is a mediocre actress who has managed to carve a successful career out of being pretty and being one of DAYS' most recognizable stars.
I don't think Ronn Moss is as horrible as people make him out to be, and I find his acting to be less than stellar, but tolerable. Same for Drake Hogestyn. I think the guys get off easier because they aren't usually required to do emotionally draining scenes, which allows them to coast along easier.
Bradford Anderson and Michelle Stafford are both GREAT actors who can play drama and comedy with ease. Backstage politics aside, I am definitely a Stafford fan. She does have a tendency to overact sometimes, but she does it in a way that often works in the context of the scene, so I have no problems with it. Bradford deserves an Emmy for his unique quirkiness and charm. There aren't many actors on soaps like him, nor will you find many actors like him if you look back throughout soap history.
I could keep going, but we would be here all day if I did.
Liason personally ive never known anyone who cries in reality and hardly makes a crease line or gets a contorted look on their face if its a big enough cry or gets the raccoon eyes but I most certainly have never known anyone that seemed self conscious of the way they looked when they were crying IRL. In the end though this thread is our individual opinions, so that is mine - I dont see the big whoop dee doo about rebecca herbst. I just dont see this so called "talent" much the way spud likes KKL and I find her horrifically bad - hence why i chose the words I also think and Personally I dont see etc. words that suggest this is one mans opinion and not necessarily a fact. hey everyone has their own individual tastes, some people think julia roberts is in the same league as glenn close. I think the difference is glaringly obvious. Potato potatoh
Days: Kristian Alfonos(Hope ) shes so bad its embarrassing. Drake H (John)I can tell hes acting.Terrible. Sorry but I never got what the big deal was w Deirdre Hall(Marlena) Shes average at best.
Y&R:the actress that plays Sofia. Zima (Daisy) Eric Braden doesn't act he just recites his lines. The only thing that he changes is the volume.
B&B: Ronnie Moss(Ridge) I lol whenever hes on. So bad. KKL isn't the best. Shes always whisper talking. Hope sucks too.Her and her Hyena laugh.
GH: Rebecca's Herbst(Liz) Shes very mediocre. She never really pulls me in.akinda boring if you ask me. I also agree w wlthe poster that mentioned Robin. Robin AND Liz scenes would put me tplo sleep.Kimberley M should stick w directing.
JUST MY OPINION.
EET,,,,It's not a bad thing that everyone looks different when they cry!
This is actually a very tough question, because in some cases the actor/actress in itself isn't bad, it is just the way tptb wants the character to be/ portrayed. There are many fine actors/actresses who portray one-dimensional characters because the character IS one-dimensional. Case in point, Greg Rikaart. We all know he CAN act and is a good actor. These days Kevin is dull as dishwater, but is that his fault? I don't think so.
Also, if a character or an actor is handled badly by the tptb of the show in question, can you really blame them for not putting in their 100%? Case in point, Hunter Tylo. I don't think she is a bad actress at all, but when her character has been downgraded this much and clearly tptb have no desire to anything with her, is it any wonder that she doesn't have the interest to do it as well as she possibly could?
Thenthere is the fact that someone is over-rated. Case in point, Michelle Stafford. Is she overrated? Hell yes. Is she a bad actress? In my opinion, no. But people get irked because she is overrated by tptb and has too much screen exposure.
However, I do have a couple of names:
Scott Clifton (Liam, B&B). Now I don't think most fans even view him as a good actor, but TPTB seem to thinks he is all that since he is on virtually every day. And he doesn't make me interested in Liam's character, so that's a bad thing. He is the center of the show, yet he is dull as dishwater. Not your usual formula, is it.
With actress, I'm gonna go with Julie Marie Berman. I don't see what people see in her portrayal of Lulu.
Men: Ron Moss, Drake Hoygeston and Daniel Goddard. The latter 2 of he 3 have taken home 3 lifetime achievement awards in bad acting.
Women: Christal Kahlil (Vanguard Award and a member of SWT = Sistas Without Talent), Kristain Alfonso (3 lifetime achievement award winner in hair modeling) and Yvonne Zima. These women top the list of back actresses.
This list is pretty good except Michelle Stafford is a very good actress.
You may not like her acting choices or style but that does not mean that she isn't good at what she does!
Melody Thomas Scott comes to my mind. She is a good crier though. I will give her that.
I think that the actors over at Days get a bit of a bad wrap because I will tell you that these guys have been able to pull off some extremely unlikely stories over the years. John Black the protestant priest (please has he even been in a catholic church before)/ medical doctor/ art theif/ ISA agent/ mercenary/ pawn/ faux Roman Brady/ cop/ magazine auteur has had so many hats to wear and we went along with it as long as the action was good. The problem is he is an action actor not a dramatic one. Ok Kristen A. is not a good crier (eyes dry as a bone no matter how many faces she makes) but she does make a pretty target for the bad guy. And who can be kidnapped as many times as Hope? Just pan away when she is trying to cry or emmote.
Peter might just be a good actor but he is badly cast in the role of Bo.
He is in no way anything that Bo ought to be. Bo ought to be this tough badass character with a mans voice. We know Bo has a heart but he hides it. RKK was a much better Bo. Peter is simply too nice to be Bo. And he is not quite as bad at being a cop as his wife but he could stand to learn ALL of the Maranda (quoting here " if you refuse the right to an attourney one will be appointed for you" when did that become part of the maranda?")
Over all not great actors but not the worst.
IMO, The Character of Spinelli is Annoying!!!! the actor is o.k (I like his film noir/jackal, PI). The Spinelli character has got to change or take a break from my T.V screen or I am going to go through the T.V screen and pull a Helena Cassadine.
Additionally, The girl who plays Hope Logan on B&B can't act.
P.S: good topic.
I can't believe that Kristal Khalil won the daytime emmy. She is an awful actress. I guess that lassie took her name out of the running.
David, I agree with you completely about CK and YZ. You can add Julia Pace Mitchell to the SWOT club, too. CK winning the Daytime Emmy just proved these awards are not necessarily about talent.
I'd wager that Shelley Henig was by far the strongest actress in that category, but I thought Khalil actually did some good work this past year(a helluva lot better than that disastrous cancer/surrogate storyline)so I was okay with her winning.
The Bell soaps have always had the best actresses and actors. Tell me if you agree.
Best and worse(in no particular order:
Young and Restless by character name past and present(best):
Mckenzie(the one with the gap tooth)
Victoria(the first one, although I don't find the present one so awful)
The first Adam
Bold and Beautiful
Stephanie(best soap actor)
Jack Wagner(can't recall his onscreen name)
Nancy Graham(GH AND SB)
Hunter Tylo (she either over acts or has no emotions)
The one that play Dayzee
I will say in this triangle that is going on with B&B.... KM is the only one that hasn't left me wondering where their acting skills have went at one time or another. She has knocked her part out of the park every single time. I think all three are great actors/actresses but JMW and SC have had alot of days where they left me cold or thinking they over acted it in their scenes together and with others.
Michelle Stafford (she over acts almost every time)
ME (I couldnt stand her on AMC either)
The one thats leaving the role of Noah (he has no emotions that he shows)
The new Kyle
Oh. The actress that played Olivia on GL and is now on B&B is a very good actress.
Farah Fath was never someone I considered to be even remotely good at acting. She seemed very awkward and forced.
Andrew Trischitta from OLTL was very forced when he acted. It's like he couldn't connect with the emotions he was supposed to feel. Sure it isn't easy to connect to a hateful character (which he was for the most part), but that is where the acting comes in and he just fell flat every time.
Kristen Alderson has never been a favorite of mine either. And honestly, I can't quite pin the reason down. There is just something about her acting that I don't buy.
I'm not usually that impressed with Chad Duell either. And NuKristina...I'm hoping there is a light at the end of that tunnel. Because I am not feeling her acting at all.
Also, while I wasn't that impressed with Kelly Sullivan to being with, I have actually found her slightly more enjoyable. I still prefer Megan Ward though.
And while she isn't the worst, Kelly Monaco is a very inconsistent actress in my opinion. I felt more real emotion from her during the beginning of her stint on GH. Now I pretty much get nothing. Even in the most emotional scenes she has I just don't feel her pain/anger/desperation etc.
But again, all of this is just my opinion. Others can probably see what I can't and that is why they were all part of the mix for so long.
You know who I really miss though? Rick Hearst being on GH. I was just watching old clips on youtube yesterday and Ric Lansing happened to be in a few and I just miss him! Rick Hearst is quality! I loved watching him and Becky interact! Two of my favorite actors on the show! And when it was Jason, Liz, and Ric in a scene I was in heaven!
Kristen Alderson, Melissa Archer, Steve Burton, Kristal Khalil, Bradford Anderson, Rebecca Herbst these actors never made me feel much in regards to their acting. Though they are all lovely people in real life.
men liam, ridge, eric, marcus
women taylor. caroline, dayzee on b&b probably the writers are doing it to the actors and actresses. i wish they would focus on others and alot less on liam backburner liam already with steffy and leave them off the airtime to give others their chance to shine in the sun. like oliver bring him back for hope. i am so fed up with hope being hurt and no decent male character for her whatsoever on this never ending feud between bill and hope. and none of this s/l makes any logic or sense at all. it would be believable if this were between bill and brooke back in the early 1990's but this long to come up with this. and hope has absolutely nothing to do with her mama's problems whatsoever. on y&r sharon and phyllis are being poorly written in. i noticed a difference in the writing for these two actresses and i know these two ladies can act if they are given the right writing for it.
GH - Starr, nuKristina, Olivia and Steve
B&B - Brooke, Ridge and Hope. Sad but I would also add Rick, even though I loved JY on AMC
Y&R - Lilly, Daniel, Sophie
GH - Sam and Todd
B&B - Steffy and Stephanie
Y&R - Paul and Jack
I don't watch GH, but there's an upcoming promo posted on here that is so awful it makes the entire group look bad. On Y and R I'd have to nominate the "character" of Harmony. I know the actress has a lot of talent but this is not her best fit. It grates on my nerves every time she's on screen. Sorry up front to anyone I offend. On B and B it's always been Ron, But I can forgive him since he's the one and only Ridge. Days.....toss up just pick any of the shirtless dudes.
