BREAKING NEWS: 3 Shocking Casting calls are going out for recasts on Y&R.
It has come to my attention that fans of Y&R are putting out a casting to recast the Executive Producer and her co-head writers. Here is what the press release says:
"Head Writer: The fans say they are looking for 1 or two head writers who pay attention to the history of a given soap and write character-driven storylines. They are willing to look at veterans who have a good track record, but also mining fresh blood who can take the show to new heights. Writers who went to the James E. Reilly School of Daytime and attended the Hogan Sheiffer's Writers Workshop need not apply. Chuck Pratt, Garin Wolf, Robert Guza, David Kreizman, Donna Swajeski, Megan McTavish and Dina Higley need not apply. Kay Alden, Lorraine Broderick and Sally Sussman Morina strongly encouraged to apply. We also do strongly encourage minorities to apply."
"Executive Producer: The fans are looking for a budget conscious EP. They are also looking for someone who can mind the show's history and trim its bloated cast of ill-important characters. Who puts acting before looks when casting. We prefer 10 Meryl Streeps and Denzel Washington's to Yvonne Zima's, Eva Marcil's and Eddie Winslow's. Who also looks to only cast and/or bring back legacy characters that can have a positive result on the ratings. The EP should also know how to mine fan reaction to stories and castings, with the ability to make necessary changes when needed. People with axes to grind, former EP's who think they are writers and those who love actors on now defunct soaps more then on the soap they helmed need not apply. Julie Hanan Carruthers, Ellen Wheeler Paul Rauch and Jill Farren Phelps need not apply. Agnes Nixon (All My Children/One Life To Live/Loving/The City), Mara Brock Akil (The Game/Girlfriends) and Felicia D. Henderson (Soul Food/Sister Sister/Moesha/Fringe) are strongly encouraged to apply."

I want John F. Smith back together with Kay Alden to head write the show. They know the show! The time of Alden as head writer wasn't always great like the stolen sperm storyline with Diane, Nikki and Ashley ... but their worst still is MAB and her team and their best. So here's hope that Brad Bell doesn't necessarily needs these two on B&B and they can go back to Y&R in time to save this sinking ship.
With the two of them back, Hamner, Sheffer and Bell should be fired! Bill Bell Jr. could issue a statement saying that his wife wants to move on to other (charity) projects, so he's not selling her out.
As Executive Producer I'd like to have Edward J. Scott back! We all know that he still seems to be close to the Bell family since he's a producer of B&B at the moment. I think it must pain Ed to see what happened to the show that he once was a part of and he made on the side of Bell Sr. so successful. He knows the show and he's proved to be a good showrunner.
I'd accept someone like Mara Brock Akil on his side.

Is this for real? Wow, soap fans don't play! I wonder what people like Frons, MAB, and Dena Higley think when they read these negative things about them. In the end, we soaps fans gotta fight for our shows even if we appear overzealous.
Lynn Marie Latham, bring her back. Strong women in charge of the businesses of Genoa City. Nikki running for State Senate, and the Chair of NVP. Phyllis as her smart business partner. Drucilla having an Executive position. Jill in charge of Chancellor-Jabot, with Katherine as her Mother, and Cane as her son. Victoria a smart woman.
As far as the whole Kay-Jill-Cane story-line. It finally got Jeanne Cooper the Emmy she deserves. And it's a whole lot better than the 'Tucker' bull$hit, with Tucker being her son, and Devon being her grandson. Devon's thought process, "I was born and raised on the streets...my Dad is a billionaire...my Grandmother is a billionaire...but I'm going to treat them like crap?" I would be like, "Dad, grandma, I love love you."
Victor and Jack moving forward a bit in life. Victor having a disease like epilepsy, like a normal guy in his late 60s. Not some super-human like MAB writes him now.
The only problems with LML. Ashley was shipped off the B&B, which was a total waste of a great talent. Over emphasis on Gloria, every single day.
But at least she didn't re-inforce ethnic stereotypes like the Veneziano family. I feel creepy that I know Angelina and Angelo's last name.
Oh please no come back of LML ... Y&R's set was poisoned with her in charge. She didn't care for characters. She just looked at some storylines she wanted to do and put the characters in it. Nikki and Jack hating each other and running for State Senate was a joke. And the Cane-is-Jill's-son-story had so many holes.
Besides that she was hated by most of the cast and killed John Abbott. I can never forgive that woman for doing that! NEVER!!! And if that wasn't enough, she got rid of Ashley. No, No, No! I don't want this woman anywhere near Y&R.
Ashley - Goddess. You know I did not like that LML got rid of Ashley, and killed off her Dad. Boo hiss. Not crazy about her getting rid of Brittany and Bobby, either, as well as Raul, too. But she had really strong female characters, and that was good thing.
I thought Cane being Phillip the 3rd was actually pretty good, and was a good way to have Jill on every day -- which I like.
We all bow down at Bill Bell's altar, but he had some clunkers, too. Keemo and Luan only being on for 18 months -- then never mentioned again. Phyllis never paying for what happened to Sasha. The whole Rick and Blade Bladeson thing.
I'm guessing that this is a dream press release, isn't it? Sounds too good to be true. Ah well, one can dream.
I will say this, though: If Young and Restless wants to live on and not join AMC, OLTL, GL, ATWT and countless other soaps in soap heaven, they have to go back to basics!!
Stop bringing on so many new faces, and focus on the characters viewers care about. Stop assainating characters we love (i.e. Sharon who's now the biggest moron in Genoa City), and writing shitty ass stories. I don't care about Angelina and her family, I don't care about Sofia, etc.
The problem with Hamner, Sheffer and Arena Bell is that they don't give a shit. They have such contempt for the genre that they'll do anything and everything to bring the show down. THIS IS WHY SOAPS ARE DYING!!!Bill Bell is rolling over in his grave right now. Good thing he's not alive to see what's being done to his creation.
What Young and Restless needs are headwriters and an EP who loves and cares about the genre. Lorraine Broderick or Claire Labine would be ideal choices for headwriters. Broderick was wonderful at AMC and I loved her stint at ATWT. And Labine was phenomenal at GH.
As for EP, what Y&R needs is either Felicia Minei Behr or Jean Dadario Burke. Keep Phelps, Goutman and Wheeler far, far away from Y&R!!
Y&R needs a change and it needs it fast, before it's too late!!
What everyone says is true. The show has become a joke. They have all the characters looking like they are going in circles and waiting for the hammer to drop. Jack and Victor only live to see who can out do who in the stupid department. Nick never work, and Billy might as well let Phyllis have Restless Style. The man that is the Mafia need to take his daughter back to where ever they came from and free Kevin. There are so many things wrong with the show that it makes my head spin. Neil need a real house for him and his wife and baby. He need a job and Sofia need to start working for Tucker again instead of being a dull housewife. Devon need to find some real singers and they need to let Kate take a back seat and let Neil run the company. Nikki need to work with Jack and fired Victor for good and move on with her life. Mike need to get some clients beside Victor, and set up a office with Avery. Ashley need to get back into the Lab and create something new. Adam and Victor need to be force to work together to save Newman Enterprise. Sharon need to go to school to learn how to be a Mother and be man less until she learns how! Phyllis and Nick need to grow up and stop hopping in and out of bed so Summer can learn what morals are.
