Whenever I saw him on GH, I cringed. Thank God he finally went back to Days as Patch! We Payla fans deserved that reunion after 16 years.
Anyway, this thread is about Diane's murder, not Stephen Nichols. That annoying detective played by Wallace's mom from Veronica Mars is back. I hate her and her attitude---she was so rude to Ashley a few months back.
I have a feeling Diane will appear as a ghost and in flashbacks for the next couple of months. We'll get to see her final confrontations with everyone on the bridge.
Since she was probably let go at the beginning of her fourth 13-week cycle, she is likely still under contract til the beginning of September. Now whether they use her til then or not is just speculation, but they have to pay her til then so they may as well use her.
Lord knows Maura West can use all the extra money she can get. She's got about 2,000 kids to support.
In a recent interview about B&B, Brad Bell mentioned casting a well-known actress as a love interest for Nick. I think it'll be Maura and she'll be a Kristen Forrester recast. Brad seems to have a knack for scooping up ousted Y&R actors and making them hits on B&B.
I like Maura West, even though I DESPISED her as Diane. She certainly deserves to find work again. Hopefully, Brad can write her a better story than Maria did. I want to see her play a flawed heroine who has fire and chutzpah, but also a moral compass. Diane USED to be that type of character, way back when.....but Maria's poisoned pen ruined that.
agreed, I think if Brad would get rid that horrible JG as Donna and put MW in as Donna, Maura could play very well with KKL and HT and more of her kind of role and more age wise.
You don't like Jennifer Gareis? LOL! I enjoyed her as Grace Turner on Y&R. I think she's alright as Donna, but the character of Donna is such a bore that I find it hard to even really care about her. LOL!
Alston, NO, NO NO I don't like JG, not even on Y&R...lol. I liked the original "Grace" much better, the only time I would sit down and watch her on Y&R when Grace was humping that beauitful man Tony (forgot his name, original one) JG is just a OK actress, she has always played the same kind of role, a sex kitten that is after a man, on B&B its Eric, etc she has no range and she has boobs, big deal...LOL. Granted not a big fan to watch B&B on a regular basis maybe twice a week, because me being a CBSer but if Maura would happen to go to B&B, I'm a FAN..because she is much a wonderful actress and watched Maura since '95 with range, depth and Maura can play ANYTHING, high drama, backstabbing bitch, loyal friend, well you know this Alston from ATWT and loved to see her and Felicia clash. I think she could really fit in as one the "Logan" sisters.
I don't think they would randomly fire Jennifer Gareis. I think, if Maura comes on, it'll either be as a new character or a Kristen recast. She and Lesli Kay look like they could be sisters.
Two guesses who the new lead detective is on this case...*rolls eyes, roll eyes*
A-Crane you're right, but my wishful thinking, IMO MW would fit so good as a Logan sister because those Logan girls has some balls now and Maura could play the crap around that kind of character. Kristen is more like Eric a good girl type and Maura can play a bitch....
I think the actress who plays Donna is okay. She's not bad, but she reminds me of Michael Jackson for some reason. I agree, I think MW is going to B&B.
I'm not really excited about Jeff Branson's return. Why bring him back if he won't commit to the show? That's stupid, IMO. Recast the role who actually wants to be on the show and is not using it as a filler. WTF, did they bring Chance back? Why did they leave him in the witness protection?
Chance is in the army, not witness protection.
I think Ronan should be recast with an actor committed to the role---or better yet, have it turn out that Ronan is a fraud and not Nina's son. They totally butchered that story and should re-do it with Nina searching for and discovering the *real* Aidan Lansing (who really should've been JT, as far as I'm concerned).
Ronan is not going to solve this case. It will probably be gumshoe Phyllis or something.
Sorry, I did a typo. I intended to say, why didn't they leave Chance in the witness protection? His return was awful, IMO. It made his staged death look pointless. They rushed a sloppy romance with Heather, and then ended it in two weeks. Then they tried to rewrite his thing with Heather, and implied that when Chance returns he was going to end up with Chloe. I would have just left him in the WPP until I was going to use the character.
I completely agree with your assessment on Ronan. People have been fired on this show for budget reasons, but JB gets to choose if he stays or go. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The only good thing about Chance's return was Nina revealing him to Jill after Cane "died". That was a good moment.
They should have had Chance come back with plastic surgery and assimilate back into GC life then totally shock everyone in town when he took the stand.
^That ish was pissing me off. Heather and Kay knew before Jill and Chloe, and that ticked me off.
Your plastic surgery idea is very Todd OLTL.
Pfft, OLTL stole it from John/Roman on Days....circa 1986!!!
The makeup crew did a good job making Diane really look dead and disgusting.
I was right about the flashbacks!
After the reveal today that [SPOILER] Diane was struck TEN TIMES in the head (she was dead after the first two), I'm pretty sure I know who the killer is because there's only one real suspect capable of that kind of insane violence. If this were poker, I'd put all my chips on Patty.
Yeah, Pattycake is the only one who I know of who is crazy enough to hit someone over the head 10 times. All that time and effort they spent trying to "foreshadow" and make it seem like characters like Ashley, Abby or Nikki were actually crazy enough to kill Diane was for nothing. Y&R used to know how to do murder mysteries/whodunits better than this. Sigh.
Y&R's last good whodunnit was "Who Shot Victor?" with crazy Mari Jo Mason.
I could picture crazy Ashley reappearing and killing Diane if she knew that Diane had slept with Tucker. That and the fact that she is causing trouble for her child. You know how crazy Ashley is when it comes to kids. I mean in the insane way. She has an abortion and goes insane, she has a miscarriage and goes insane and has a histerical baby. So I could see her as the killer.
Having said that my first instinct is Kyle. Reason one is that it is a very Bill Bell thing to do and we KNOW that Maria Bell loves to pay homage to the man. He loved nothing better than a relative shooting another relative and then totally forgeting they did it. So Kyle will be the killer but will have no memory of it. He will come back the same smiling little guy that he left as. Hopefully though at some point in the future when he grows up (probably next month) that it will cause problems for him.
Mark, I agree. I keep thinking that Kyle is the one who did it. I just keep coming back to him, and how he kept stalling or whatever when Jack asked where he was. I think if it wasn't him, it will be Skye. I wouldn't put it past them to write Kyle as the killer. He's got the Children of the Corn thing going, like Ciara on DOOL!
Yeah, its Patty. That's why they will have Paul and Ronan working together. Conflict of interest. Please don't bring back SH. Her screaming and yelling just pissed me off.
I couldn't stand Patty either. She made me want to poke my eyes out, and she got more and more annoying as the storyline DRUG on. I hope it's not Patty because then we would have to endure even more of that sh*t.
I'm sure I will get booed for saying this, but SH is so overrated. She completely overacted. Crystal Chappell would be a great Patty, IMO. SH is Bree Williamson on steriods. Her Emily was completely lifeless and her Patty was a cartoon character. However, when Emily was switched into the institution her acting was the exact same as Patty's. CC would have to do a much better job on Y&R then Days.
Dyllan, I agree that Paul's involvement in the case is a "clue" that Patty's the culprit. I also could not stand Stacy Haiduk for the same reasons you listed. She was too over the top as Patty and too bland as Emily. She was actually "just right" as Mary Jane until she went crazy. I dunno if she'd come back for what I assume would be only a few weeks' worth of shows. It would be fun if they could bring back the original Patty and just say she had her plastic surgery job undone. We rarely agree, Dyllan, so let's celebrate!
I certainly wouldn't boo you for it. I think Stacy Haiduk's characters were both annoying and she was just dead weight. In fact, I've been thinking that Genie Francis would have been better in the role. She's short like the first Patty, and would have made a great psycho apparently.
That reminds me. I'm back to thinking Genevieve murdered Diane. I think she saw Diane and Jack through the window and thought that they had been having an affair. I would bet money on it.
Oh God, Genevieve could actually be a good suspect. But then you could extrapolate and say Colin killed Diane to frame Jack and ruin Genevieve's chance of romance with him.
Ultimately, though, it'll be Patty.
Please do not let it be Patty! It's like that scene when Katherine found out Jill was her daughter: NOT JILL! Oh God.....NOT JILL!
Patty is the simplest and easiest answer.
She shows up revealed as the killer at the end of one episode as a cliffhanger. Paul catches and subdues her. She over-acts and goes on and on about Mr. Kitty or whatever the hell she always rambled on about. Poor Paul pleads with the DA and Patty is sent away to a mental institution for life.
That wouldn't take more than what, 4-5 episodes max? Then they can sweep this whole thing under the rug and pretend it never happened.
Oh, and with Maura gone, Kyle will be SORASed by year's end, just watch it! He should be the same age as Abby so hopefully that's what they'd age him to.
If Gloria Swanson, Jr. does indeed return to GH as Laura or if SH does not return, I could easily see them switching gears and blaming Genevieve.
PREPARE yourself for the most ridiculous episode of Y&R since Colleen's final "plunge"! It's The Young and The Restless meets The Lovely Bones meets Desperate Housewives!
MAB, you think you're so clever but you're not! HS is getting off on all this misogyny and must be loving manly man Ronan!
The voice-over today was terrible. I did not want to spend the hour listening to that self-serving, whiny Diane continue her woe-is-me tale. I was so glad when she turned up in the river so she would shut up! But no, she's still talking. Ugh.
Wow that park was hopping that night! Half the town was there but none of them at the same time!
You are absolutely right. It's just another example of Maria's SLOPPY writing. ALL of those characters got text messages around the same time and yet NONE of them saw each other? And they all had the WORST alibis in history. Since when is having sex with your significant other or your latest man piece du' jour considered a solid alibi? Unless you are having sex in a public place with an audience full of witnesses, it doesn't fly. They make it so easy for people like Ronan to do their jobs. But after watching today's episode, it reminded me of what a spiteful bitch Diane had become.
I didn't wish death on her at all, but I certainly won't miss her. Thanks for reminding me of how much you assassinated this character, Maria Bell, not that I needed the reminder.
and how the EFF would a key still be in her mouth if she was upside down in water for HOURS??
I have a bad feeling this storyline will take a nose dive. I'm already getting kind of bored. Its too technical, IMO. But, I could be wrong, and I'm not really caring for JB's return. Maybe more twists will come along.
I've solved it.
According to the cops, there were 10 blows to the head.
There are also 10 suspects - Adam and the 9 people who Diane texted.
Did anyone ever read Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express."
In it, there are 12 stab wounds found in a dead man - and 12 people on the train. All of the passengers stabbed him b/c they all had a vendetta against him.
Starting to sound familiar?
We will never know which of the blows to the head killed Diane. Therefore we will never know who actually murdered her. But they all hit her. And they're all in it together.
Okay, so they all got in a line and bashed Diane upside the head? Or did they all come along at different times, seeing her lifeless body on the ground, and decide to randomly bash her in the head to make sure she was dead?
I am sorry, but I don't get it.
I can't see all of these main characters doing something so gross and murderous. It just doesn't resonate with me. I have known these characters for decades, and none of them strike me as murderers. And none of them would risk their freedom for Diane Jenkins.
Nothing against you or your theory, MauraWestFan, but if this is indeed true, it's the BIGGEST case of character assassination(s!) that I have seen on Y&R EVER!!! And it proves my point that Maria Bell can't write a decent story to save her BLEEPING life.......
Update: I was incorrect about the number of folks Diane sent texts to. The total number of suspects is 9, not 10. Unless you count Nikki or someone else.
But she had 10 blows to the head, not 9. So while I don't flush my theory down the toilet, I think maybe a version of my theory is still in play here. Clearly the writers know that many of us have read "Murder On The Orient Express" so they could not copy it exactly.
The piece that I don't get about the story is this: If Diane sent texts to Victor and others at the same exact time, how is it that they each showed up at different times to see her and no one (other than Victor and Victoria) showed up at exactly the same time? (that we know of).
If Diane was in the middle of her conversation with Phyllis, for instance, are we to believe that no one else was standing by and watching it? Phyllis and Nick left Restless Style at the exact same time. Is Phyllis just a faster driver and got there first? Were other people there but hiding in the bushes? Weird!! no?
And also, WHY did Diane text all those people to come? To taunt them? Did she care if all of them showed up at once? Wouldn't them seeing her alive sort of ruin her plan with Adam?
Oh well, this is the kind of story where bits and pieces are revealed as we go along. I just wonder how long this will be dragged out. Till November?
Didn't they say that Diane would have been dead after two or three blows? So why would the other 7 or 8 people hit her? For fun?
Nathang1983 LOL yeah Kyle and Ciara certainly do have alot in common. They remind me of a movie and its remake. A 1950s movie called The Bad Seed with Patty Mcormack. She is a little girl who starts killing people. I could definately see Ciara running around bashing people's heads in! Kyle is the remake The Good Son staring Maculley Culkin. Again a little boy going around terrorizing a family. The two and little Theo should get together and eliminate the dead weight on both shows! I am sure Sony Tv would love the cross promotion and it would be something noone has ever done on any tv show ever! I could just see the three of them with dripping red clubs in their hands standing over bodies and just staring down at them in that drone way Ciara and Theo do in every scene. Ofcourse Kyle would have that "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" grin on his face that will just lend to the kreep factor! Ofcourse Theo would have to ask the question "Is it wrong to go around bashing people's heads in?" And Ciara would have to say,"be still Theo. It's ok if they are bad people!"
This "murder mystery" is ridiculous! If they had maybe made Diane's death look like an accident, I could possibly buy that one of the suspects accidentally killed her and tried to cover it up. But I can't see any of these people having enough motive to bash her head in 10 times! The only POSSIBLE suspect I can believe is Ashley if she went crazy. But I'm going to put my money on Patty. I doubt it's Genevieve because MAB is determined to shove her down out throats until we like her!
Its official! I hate this storyline. It started off good, but today's Y&R was BORING and it was pretty much completely about the Diane storyline. Ugghh....it reminds me too much of Hightower for me to enjoy it.
As for MW play a Logan sister, she could play their "secret" sister, the one that Steven conceived with his "new" wife after he left the Logan girls and their mother (Beth?)
alstonboy, love all your takes on the characters and situations. Here is a weak theory, but just one to fit the up coming situation. Marcy Rylan (Abbey) is going to take time off to have her baby, so she will need to be written out for a few months. Can't remember if Diane texted her, but if she did Abbey could be the killer, or falsly accused and convicted of the killing and be sent off to prison. That will give Marcy time off to have her baby, then she'll come back to the show and it will be discovered that Abbey is innocent. A weak theory, but anything goes, especially with MAB's weak storylines.
I follow MW on twitter and she said she was taping until the end of June. Does anyone know how far in advance Y&R tapes?
I don't think Abby is the killer. Thanks for your kind words.
