This Week in Daytime: Flaxen Haired Fools
By Luke Kerr on September 06, 2010
This Week in Daytime,
I teared up at As the World Turns’ tribute to Nancy Hughes (Helen Wagner). The episode contained so many wonderful flashbacks. I was in the midst of patting myself on the back for not letting it get to me when they began Nancy’s Thanksgiving prayer and I knew I was a goner. Of course, that touching scene was immediately followed by Katie’s (Terri Colombino) flashbacks of Nancy. I know each ATWT fan has their own fond memories, but there are three reasons I fell in love with ATWT and Oakdale. 1) I discovered ATWT because it was where my beloved Another World characters ended up. 2) I couldn’t get enough of Jack (Michael Park) and Carly’s (Maura West) on again/off again relationship 3). Katie and Simon’s (Paul Leyden) romance–nurtured by Nancy–hooked me. Share your favorite Nancy Hughes moments in the comments. We miss you Helen Wagner.
This Week in Daytime: Cliffhangers and Red Herrings
By Luke Kerr on June 06, 2010
This Week in Daytime,
I cheered The Bold and the Beautiful for the best Friday cliffhanger I’ve seen in a very long time. Jamey thinks it's all a giant red herring, but hypothetically speaking, if Oliver (Zack Conroy) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) did have sex I want to know how Oliver couldn’t tell the difference between a dusty muffin like Brooke and fresh cupcake like Hope (Kimberly Matula)? I haven’t wanted to tune in for a Monday episode of B&B this much in years. (Editor's Note: Brooke Logan's muffin is the freshest, warmest, tightest muffin around and that boy would be eternally blessed even to partake in one, delicious crumb you MOTHER $%*#$#! Team Logan-4-Life!) READ MORE
This Week in Daytime: Naked Heiresses and Starr X'd Disappointments
By Luke Kerr on May 23, 2010
This Week in Daytime,
I roared with laughter at the great debut of Marcy Rylan as Abby “The Naked Heiress” Newman on The Young and the Restless. I’m not sure what happened to Abby being a Carlton, but things just got a whole lot more interesting in Genoa City. From the moment I heard she was joining Y&R, I knew Rylan would be fantastic—even though I haven’t forgiven All My Children for not snapping her up to recast Colby Chandler—and she did not disappoint. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) has never been one of my “must watch” Y&R characters, but now I can’t wait to see how Abby causes problems for both Ashley and Victor (Eric Braeden). I do not care what my fellow DC'ers say about my love for Marcy Rylan. I imagine a few of them are shaking their heads as they read this, but I to that I say THIS. (Editor's Note: The boy is right about something once a Leap Year, and it goes to his head! :p) READ MORE

This Week in Daytime: Snubs, Lovers and Recasts
By Luke Kerr on May 15, 2010

This Week in Daytime,
I choked at some of the people snubbed by the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy nominations. I realize there are only so many people who can be nominated in each category, not to mention sometimes less-than-stellar submission reels and backstage politics playing factors, but Stacy Haiduk, Alison Sweeney, Laura Wright, Maurice Benard, Sharon Case, Scott Evans, Brett Claywell and Ron Carlivati and the One Life to Live writing team all deserved nominations. There is absolutely no justification for that hack Chuck Pratt getting a nomination for almost destroying All My Children. Just once I’d like to see a nomination list that didn’t make me go “huh???” A pipe dream I know. READ MORE

This week in daytime,
I wondered if All My Children's Zach (Thorsten Kaye) and Kendall (Alicia Minshew) fans were steaming mad about their couple's onscreen reunion, of sorts. Not being a Zendall fan myself I expect it had to be more than a little bittersweet to see a favorite couple return, only to dissolve before our eyes like a hairball in a drain pipe attacked by Draino. My sympathies are with you Zendall fans.
This Week in Daytime

This week in daytime,
I wondered if I was watching Scooby Doo instead of The Young and the Restless, what with villains in masks, ridiculous character names like “Mama Bear,” explosions and doppelgangers galore. The only thing missing was The Mystery Machine and the Scooby Snacks. In the words of Scooby Doo’s Velma “Jinkies, that monster is really just a guy in a suit pulling off a scam...just like all the other...times... Well, this just isn't surprising anymore.”
