James Lipton Used to Pimp Hookers in Paris
James Lipton has worn many hats during his storied career in the entertainment business — actor, writer, television host, professor. Who knew one of said hats was purple and had a feather in it?
In a new interview with Parade, the Inside The Actors Studio host revealed that for a time he worked as a pimp in a Parisian whorehouse! Here's an excerpt:
Is it true you were a pimp in Paris in the 1950s?
“I was. It was only a few years after the war. Paris was different then, still poor. Men couldn’t get jobs and, in the male chauvinist Paris of that time, the women couldn’t get work at all. It was perfectly respectable for them to go into le milieu.”
I wonder if Lipton left this particular job entry off his resume, when seeking out both writing and acting gigs on Irna Phillips' The Guiding Light back in the early 50's? After his stints on GL, Lipton went on to write for Another World, The Edge of Night, The Best of Everything, Return to Peyton Place and Capitol.
