I just watched it and it was pretty bad. I hope they have male frontal nudity. I could have done without so many of the "young ones" and I wish they would cut the Laurel & Hardy act with Dorian and David. Soaps are campy by nature and when the actors play it so cartoonish it just makes it seem really bad. Robin Strasser comes off like she's still on that horrible Passions. Too many club scenes too way too much pseudo comedy with David and Dorian.
I felt like the scripts were short of dialogue and used to many dance/club scenes to fill in time. Melissa Archer looked extremely pained during her dance scene.
The new opening is completely cheesy and really needs to be reworked. It was just bad.
The sets are soooo small too but they look okay. As long as the story is strong, really strong, I'll watch but it looks like they are going for a serious teeny-bopper feel to the show so I'm out.
While I loved seeing familiar faces and lots of plot potential, I didn't care for the really loud music, the cheap looking opening or the complete revision of Matthew and Destiny. I found it hard to believe that Bo and Nora's soon would be such a jerk or that sweet Destiny would become such a ho. I also thought the Victor reveal could have been done much better with more dramatic effect. Overall I would grade OLTL 2.0's first episode a solid B. I'll keep watching!
i give it a B-
i hope we see boobs & frontal nudity from the men.
I give it a B+. I literally squealed when I saw TSJ. OLTL has also been trending on Twitter this morning.
I laughed out loud over David's Saturday Night Life scenes.
I was pretty happy with it...Do I think it can be improved...yes...that is why I gave it a B+...but I was happy with what I saw...and THRILLED to see this show back.
Gonna have to check them out! Curious to see what limits are pushed.
It felt like EDGE OF NIGHT's Monticello more than Llanview to me. I am in the demo they are targeting but I thought the pacing was way too fast. Sets are so small. La Boulae and Llanfair look the same size as Bo's apartment. Lighting was bad and music is way too loud drowning out dialogue.
Still impressed with what they accomplished in such a short period of time.
Having Blair run a nightclub where minors are doing drugs and guys are getting BJs in the VIP room doesn't really make me like her.
I thought they did okay. The sets look fine. Yeah they are smaller but they have have the budget that ABC had for an episode and I think they did very well for that.
Loved that there were so many extras at the club opening.
The story was good so far. I liked having Todd show up and Victor close behind him. Great that they are starting with that story. I hope they signed Trevor St. John long-term.
Now ... the opening is another thing. What was that? Awful. But that was about it. Loved anything else.
Agreed! The blow job scene was just vulgar.
Well I was so happy to see it back that I overlooked all the nit-picky things mentioned already. When I heard Daniella and Jack "curse" I knew this isn't going to be my mother's OLTL. But that's ok because it's 2013. I will support the show as I did since 1971.
Guess I'm not the only one who didn't like the new opening. It had auto-tune. But despite that, it wasn't as bad as AMC's opening, which looked like it was created using Microsoft PowerPoint.
Totally amazing! I loved every single minute of it, especially on how they kept the shady character hidden until the end of the episode. I wonder how he got freed. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode.
I really enjoyed it. It was so nice to get up this morning (early before work) and watch One Life to Live. I would have lived for the premiere episode to be a full hour to really get us caught up in Llanview. I like the new Matthew and Destiny. The other actors were not interested in continuing with the show so I have no problem with the recasts being aged. I would give it a A-. As for the music, it's a nightclub not a nunnery. When Dorian told Nigel "I need no introduction" I was in heaven. Cutter can lose his pants. STAT.
YAY! My "One Life to Live" is BACK! And I LOVED IT!!!!
---Viki and Clint opening the show
---Dorian was fantastic! I have missed seeing her so much!
---David was great! LOVED him walking the red carpet in his head and then the reality of what it really looked like. Hysterical! Really don't like the fact that he has a reality show. And did he call his cameraman Liam? That's Natalie's sons name...at first I thought they SOARSed Liam! However, little Liam is adorable!
---Tea is going a little cra-cra with that nursery eh? And ignoring Danni? It's completely believable and understandable that Danni would turn to drugs and alcohol
---Loved the fact that they are involving drugs and alcohol and using the word "shit" and someone going down on someone in the back room of a club (it happens!) SCANDALOUS!...this ain't your typical soap
---Love the new Matthew! And Matthew was kind of acting like a brat towards the end of the original run, so it makes sense. Loved that Bo found drugs in his room. Loved the interaction with Bo and Nora and Matthew.
---Not sure about New Destiny yet...I think I like her. She was better to me the second time around.
---Loved Blair getting turned down by a young man who called her a cougar. I felt bad for Blair, but it was pretty funny.
---Looks like a Natalie/Cutter/Rama triangle although I am kind of upset Rama and Vimal are separated.
---Skin, skin, skin! Natalie was just hoe-ing it up getting dressed. Then when she got home, she took off her clothes and lied on the couch in her underwear and HEELS! Did it bother anyone else that she left her heels on??? Bitch, that's the first thing you take off. LOL
---Corbin Bleu is going to be a nice addition to the show.
---I have missed Todd "Gimmie shelter"
---The surprise at the end was GREAT! I gave a gasp!
The in between
---I'm still getting used to the opening credits, but I think I like them. They are fun, more so than AMC. Though I barely heard Snoop Lion
Didn't care for
---Rama and Vimal separation, but I guess it makes for better story.
---The music was way too loud in some parts. I liked the vibe and atmosphere of the club, but there were some lines I could barely hear. Great job at getting a lot of wonderful extras.
---Has Jack gotten any better? He only had like 3 lines, but still...what was he doing at Club? I know they didn't age him to be 21. Guess cause he's Blair's son.
Cannot wait to watch more and I wish and hope nothing but the best things for our soaps now online. I will for sure keep watching. So happy to go home now and watch AMC, OLTL, and GH...it's like nothing has changed!
I have to on the opening, it was horrible, but overall, the entire episode was great.
I'm sorry, but I don't see Destiny as being a hoe; you're saying that just based on how she was dressed; SHE WAS AT A CLUB. To me, Destiny came off like a responsible (young) single mother who was looking for a night of fun; she wasn't giving a blow job in the backroom or taunting a guy for a free drink. As for Matthew being a jerk, he's been a jerk before; he also had a problem with being a father at 18; just because he decided at the last minute to be there for the child's birth doesn't mean he adjusted well to being a father after that.
U obviously haven't been following any of the interviews, Danielle, Matthew, and Destiny have been aged to 21 years old. THEY aren't minors.
That doesn't make it any better.

Read what the writers have hinted at regarding Destiny and how she's going to make money. And don't presume to know what I'm thinking.
It doesn't matter who owns the club. Young people do drugs, people have sex in clubs. I don't know what the big issue is.
These soap operas have to move forward. They have to arrive in 2013. You can't ignore like things forever when they are already part of today's society.
I wonder if they'll rip off GH and have one of the newbies get raped at the disco then fall in love with her rapist?
I have to admit it took a second view to get in the groove of where oltl is now as opposed to the oltl we knew. I was so stunned that I was actually watching my oltl again. By second view I was completely on board. I actually LOVE the cheesy opening and LOVED seeing Nat & Cutter get downe. The NuMatthew is a great recast, Corbin fits in great. I think in a couple months alot of the kinks will be worked out. I want them to give us much story & individual drama with each character. The Shelter aspect is cool but I don't want "the club" to overshadow the drama. There's so many exciting possibilities with this new format!
Totally agree that soaps must move forward and more accurately show what's going on in the world today. For me, it doesn't make Blair a sympathetic character to be providing a space for immoral and illegal activity, but maybe she's not supposed to be sympathetic. Not a big deal, just sharing my opinion.
Not bad. The opening was rather cheesy. I agree that the music was way too loud at some points, and I could have done without Cutter trying to dance. And the blow job was just gratuitous, an attempt at shock value. They don't need that. It can be edgy without being soft core porn. I will watch my gay porn sites for that!
DonnyA2001...David's camerman's name is Leo, not Liam. And why is Dorian wearing that terrible wig?
What role does Blair play in this other than being the owner of the club?
I haven't seen her selling drugs, providing minors with alcohol or allowing others to perform oral in one of the back rooms. She's just a club owner. Nothing more. People in there are as much responsible for themselves as they are elsewhere. And I actually don't see Shelter has a place for drug dealers. That was their opening night and one girl drank too much. We also know that she's somehow involved with drugs. Nothing more.
It's a whole bunch of nothing. And it has nothing to do with Blair really.
I'm going to say that it's going to be hard for these two shows to attract the "normal" soap fan. OLTL is going more European here, which is good for them. The European soaps are doing great stuff for years and years now. But maybe it's hard to sell a format like this in North America...!?
I was thinking the same thing. And that outfit was definitely a fashion no-no.
I appreciate your opinion and respect it mfarris70. It seems some people come on here just to critique others opinions and posts when they don't match their own.
Good, glad to hear it. Let's move on.
I liked the show, like others, I didn't like the loud music. I agree, the opening was cheesy as all get out. My eyes bugged out when I saw TSJ at the end of the episode! I was like, "Victor's back!"
