Were Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck Found “Polarizing” by Audiences?

More details are coming out about the results of ABC’s research into The View’s hosts. US Weekly alleged Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving The View because viewer research found her “too extreme and right wing”, a claim Barbara Walters denies. Now, in a article published by The Hollywood Reporter, it seems the audience study may have found both Hasselbeck and Joy Behar polarizing.

Longtime panelists Behar and Hasselbeck on the left and right, respectively, were deemed too "polarizing," according to several sources. "They're out of sync with the audience," notes one source.

THR points out,

It's unclear when the co-hosts were made aware of the research, but on March 7, Behar, 70, announced that she will exit View after 16-plus years at the end of her contract this summer.

It’s a sad day when people with differing viewpoints cause so much polarization that audiences tune out. No matter which host’s side your on, there is no denying The View is one of the only places in daytime where such honest conversations happen about the political issues of our day.

Listen, I ~respect~ right wingers rights to spew their BS, but I don't want to watch them spewing it. I especially don't want to hear some shrill, not very articulate a-hole spewing it. I know their positions, I don't have to tune into the View to find out about what they think.

What's wrong with a little polarizing. It is the foundation of democracy. It's good that people are stimulated to think from the right and the left.

70?! Wow. I haven't seen The View in years but had no idea Joy Behar was 70 years old. She looks good.

My thoughts exactly, soapbaby! I was sure that was a mistake. I would have put her closer to my age (53).

I had to verify Joy Behar's age on a few different sources to confirm. Go ahead girl!

The tyranny of the middle. Can't allow thoughts too far to the left. Can't allow thoughts too far to the right. Have to stay in the mediocre middle.

Polarizing......annoying.......irksome. Whatever you wanna call Elisabeth Hasslebleep, she is just a nag and I can't stand her. Her political views are only about 1/3 of the reason why I despise her.

Joy Behar has strong opinions, but she makes me laugh and I find her to be very entertaining. Ditto for Whoopi and Sherri.

Hasslebleep is the only weak link in this chain. Too bad Babs doesn't seem to have the intestinal fortitude to do anything about it.

I tend to find Joy and Elizabeth equally annoying just for different reasons. Elizabeth always seemed ill informed and snotty while Joy was abrasive and just as vapid in her liberal bloviating as Elzabeth was in her conservative leanings. And she broke the comedians cardinal rule by not being funny.

Y'know, you are right. It is the humor that seems to be key. They should go a right-leaning comic route, but are there any? I was also thinking, could they really shake things up and go with a man?

Who watches The Talk? The View still has the ratings plus the political banter is what has made the show what it is today. The View has many more years left in it, I worry more about the soaps more than anything.

But the Talk has been gaining ground. Just my opinion, but I doubt ABC would be trying to make changes if Julie Chen and company still had the horrible ratings they did during season one. ABC didn't just now figure out that Elisabeth (and Joy) were turning people off. They have competition now that people can switch over to.

The Talk, and the Chew for that matter, have been doing relatively well without the hosts yelling and screaming at each other about politics. I mean, if I wanted an all-woman version of Hannity, I'd watch that crap.

Elisabeth was the only one of those loud mouth women to have any form of common sense - They're all liberal nut jobs - they think as the racist Whoopi put it, we can spend our way to prosperity - referring to our $17 Trillion National Deficit - $6 trillion of it emerged under Obama's failed leadership and policy practices - Then we must not forget Sherri Shepard saying the world was flat and meaning it. We're do we start with Joy - talk about loon bat....Ugggh
Can't wait to read all the Obama supporting, mindless liberal jibber jabbering posts after they read this
"it's not obama's fault"...."obama inherited this mess"...."it's not obama's fault"..."you watch too much fox news"...."it's not obama's fault"...."fox news"...."right winger"...."tea bagger"...."its not Obama's fault"....I'm sure there are more buzz words for these "tolerant" and "non-hating" liberals to spew out. Cheers.

The View's always been a mix of politics, pop culture, some sports and even hard news. I think the reason it's a problem now, is that ratings are down, and the Chew and the Talk are gaining, that's what making ABC nervous.

I've watched the Talk a couple of times, they talk reality shows, too.

I'm with Ifad, their hosts don't be screaming and talking all over each other.

Unless the View's ratings go down the toilet, it will be fine, they just need to get back to what made them a hit in the first place.

If Elisabeth is gone, then it will be ABC's decision, not Barbara's.

And as a Conservative, I too, find it hard to listen to the shrills of the left-wingers, although I don't agree with the left-wingers and the BS that's quite often spewing out of mouths that don't know what they're taking about.... Joy, Whoopie & Sherri. If only someone where on The View that actually knew what they were talking about politically or perhaps they need to NOT discuss politics period.

I'm no fan of EH but she is outnumbered by left-wingers hence the "shrilling" that you speak of. They need to a add Ali Wentworth and Meghan McCain to the panel. I'd love to hear Meghan and Elizabeth go at it plus Ali is hilarious and she knows her politics.

While I don't care for most of the panel, I do still watch when Babs isn't on. Good riddance to Ms. Behar although, I never would've guessed her for being 70!!! She still looks amazing!

I liked Elisabeth on Survivor and was glad to see her get the job on The View. But as time passed, she became a loud-mouth, ill-informed reactionary. It wasn't her politics, but her attitude and ignorance that put me off. I also used to like Joy, but she just became too mean at times. Meanness is not a substitute for wit. I'm ready for them both to go.

Strangely, Elisabeth had the most class when Starr returned for a visit. Unlike Joy and Barbara, she didn't seem to be interested in dredging up the past or raking Starr over the coals.

I would be happy to see The View without Elizabeth. Too bad Joy is leaving, but you can tell she is done with it.

And Joy is 70???? OMG she looks amazing!
