Barbara Walters: “We Have No Plans For Elisabeth to Leave The Show”
By Luke Kerr on March 11, 2013

Is she staying or is she going? On today's episode of The View, series creator and executive producer Barbara Walters denied Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on her way out. Said Babs:
"There is a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up about Elisabeth's alleged departure, saying that we don't approve of her conservative views. The truth is we love Elisabeth. I like her personally and she's just a wonderful person. But beyond that, we value and appreciate her point of view because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance. ... So we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show."
Guess that settles that.

I would never stop watching a show simply because I disagreed with one of the “views” of one of the co-hosts. How narrow-minded can you be? I want to hear as many sides of an issue as possible. I cannot understand why some people seem so afraid of a differing viewpoint.

Dayum, dayum, dayum!!
I am now having a tantrum. I was hoping that Babs would FINALLY get rid of this useless wench. Guess my hopes have been dashed.
Joy's leaving, Babs is becoming more and more demented every day.......
As much as I love Whoopi and Sherri, I don't even think that they can compel me to wanna watch this show after Joy leaves, unless Babs finds a KICK ASS replacement.
And I don't dislike Hasslebleep ONLY because she's Conservative, though that certainly is a factor. She's also PAINFULLY annoying. PAINFULLY.

Can I "have plans". I'm all for views as well. I just don't like her.
She's said some offensive things over the years.

ITA pferrando!! I don't mind people expressing their views--it's just that she's SO obnoxious about it and OFTEN has her "facts" wrong.

I think this could be another high profile denial to keep ABC-Disney from a viewer backlash. I don't care for Hasselbeck's views, but I liked that she had opposing views from the rest of those harpies. I thought for a minute they would hire another conservative to balance things out. It would certainly have been more balanced and reasonable.
Just like when ABC had Susan Lucci deny that AMC was being canceled, I think the same thing is going on with Barbara, in about a month, we will likely see Hasselbeck depart "on her own terms".
I don't trust ABC-DISNEY one bit!

Of course, Us Weekly is standing by their story, we'll see what happens in the next few weeks, if the rumblings pick up again.
Like I said before, though I don't agree with some of Elisabeth's views, but I think a lot of it is just misinformation.

And now come the people who cite their vague accusations of things she supposedly has said, when--more often than not--she hasn't really said them. Elisabeth Whoopi and Sherri have all been victims of that.

Anyone else notice that Elizabeth was completely mute during Bab's speech or that they never said she had actually renewed her contract. She herself didn't say "I'm staying"? Bet she is being courted again by Fox News or some other outlet and holding out for more bucks. Maybe there are no "plans" on ABC's part but.... I think it's still open to interpretation until she says "I'm staying".

Traditional broadcast media has truly proven inept at getting out in front of these emerging rumors and stories. For days, this story has been everywhere online, couldn't someone have sent out a simple tweet disavowing these statements?
Personally, I don't really care one way or another but I look at CBS and now ABC and the way they try too much to control the message that gets out about their respective shows. They try so much to contain and control the message that they forget that social media moves lightning fast these days and that they too must utilize the tools to help mold people's perceptions.
When you look at the networks' websites you realize just how poorly some of them utilize technology, ABC and CBS are particular standouts in this category of poor use of technological tools.
The View could've squashed the rumors with a few clicks. Unless there was more wrangling behind the scenes than they want anyone to know. Or unless perhaps they thought the 'buzz' surrounding the rumors would somehow translate to higher ratings (LOL).

They did. On Friday, ABC issued this statement: "Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of ‘The View’ and has a long term contract". However, that's never going to stop the people who don't want to believe the truth from running with whatever "facts" they choose to pick out of the news-cafeteria lineup.

There's also the possibility that the network was floating a trial balloon to see how people would react to the news if and when they really fired her.

@TV Gord. Thanks for letting me know.
Clearly, though, that message got lost in the shuffle online when I can go to Yahoo just to check my e-mail (out of habit I keep them) and am bombarded with news stories of Hasselbacks possible departure on their homepage after I sign out.
I thought ABC News had a partnership with Yahoo? Why was this story running on Yahoo's homepage all weekend? Like I said before, unless ABC/View thought they could somehow capitalize from all the intrigue from the rumors.
@SoapArmageddon. That is a possibility. Television can be cut-throat and I don't doubt that someone could've been thinking along those lines. Call me cynical.

They've all said offensive things over the years, it just so happens that EH is a Conservative and ALL of the others aren't. If ABCD wants all left-wingers on their panel, I hope the ratings drop hard!

Why would they do that NOW, when they're already losing one of their cast members? Elisabeth has ALWAYS thrown her opponents into a snit-fit of incredible rage. I don't think any "trial balloons" now would tell them anytime different from what they've heard from day one.

"Why would they do that NOW, when they're already losing one of their cast members?..."
I don't see Joy's departure as having any bearing on Elizabeth's status with the show. Joy's views are already well-represented on the panel.

My point is the same people have hated Elisabeth from the start, and they have kept Elisabeth around for a decade. Why would they be floating "trial balloons" now?

I cannot stand Elizabeth!!...and I don't believe Barbara..she chose her words very precisely in that statement besides let's look back at how Barbara was sitting on the secret that Starr Jones option was not going to be picked up. She didn't want anyone to know until the final weeks of that Season on "The View". Instead Starr gagged them all and announced it early LIVE!! and was never seen from again...lol...that's all this is...she has to finish out her contract and all the rumblings that are being heard will somehow all be true in the end!....And good riddance!

Star's big mistake is that she used her pompous ass to pimp herself out to sponsors, and she used her leverage to coerce sponsors to pimp out her punkass wedding to that gay guy. That--combined with Star's utter lie about how she lost weight--and ABC had had enough. She told too many lies and she got caught up in too many of them, so ABC were ready to dump her sorry ass on the side of the road (where coincidentally, a desperate Matt Lauer was passing by...).

Despite her serious credibility issues, if Star had diligently applied herself to smooching the posterior of a certain octogenarian grande dame, she might still have kept her job on the View.

Barbara's authority over ABC is being seriously OVER-estimated by people. The network hierarchy is trying to find a way to gracefully usher her out the door (although she, her agent and her ego are making way too difficult for them).

I have considered myself a Democrat, though I am moderating myself, but tire of one-sidedness when it comes to the media. I have gone from watching MSNBC to CNN and now to Fox News. I want a multipartisan approach in the media, which most lack as they are all Obama worshiping freaks, including The View. How many times has John Boehner or George W. Bush been on? 0. I hope Elisabeth keeps her job and they even bring in another conservative voice to replace overly liberal Joy Behar. I like Joy for her personality but it's no secret where she stands. I haven't watched The View lately because I just don't have the time to watch.

This could easily be true or not true. Let's not forget the Star Jones debacle which Barbra Walters openly and eventually admitted was a lie. Star was given the option to say leaving was her decision even though she was fired. First Star said so then BW admitted it. Not that this is a big deal in the world, but any credibility on who is coming or going and why was lost when it was admitted that, basically, they decided to lie to viewers about contract stuff and exits. So--is Elisabeth staying? Sure, probably at least until July at which point perhaps she will "decide on her own" to leave or she will stay for another season. Who knows?

Damn!

What Barbara TRIED to do was give Star the option of leaving with a little dignity (saying it was her choice to move on, when it was really the network's choice to dump her). Star chose to leave without dignity. That has worked well for her, hasn't it?

Kill it. Pull the plug on this show. It's the worst produced and directed show on television. Joy thinks she's gunna go light up Hollywood- good luck. I just want this show to end - it's embarrassing.
