Wishful Casting: Brandon Barash as Lauren's Son Scotty on The Young and the Restless!

Okay, we're all thinking it. How long will it be before The Young and the Restless showrunner Jill Farren Phelps makes a play for exiting General Hospital star Brandon Barash? Barash is one of the sexiest and most popular stars currently part of the daytime landscape; somebody better snap him up!
Barash would prove a great recast for Scotty Grainger, the writer son of Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) and the late Dr. Scott Grainger (Peter Barton). When we last saw Scotty (a pre-The Lying Game Blair Redford), he was being used as a pawn in one of Sheila Carter's (Kimberlin Brown) lethal plots against his mother.
More recently, Lauren sent her and Michael Baldwin's (Christian LeBlanc) son Fenmore (Max Ehrich) to live with his big brother, when Sheila's daughter Daisy (Yvonne Zima) was tormenting the clan. With the Fenmore-Baldwins once again in crisis, now is the perfect time for Lauren's eldest son to come home!
What if, like many aspiring novelists, Scotty went into copywriting to maintain steady employment? Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) could hire him to develop marketing copy for the new Jabot fashion line, putting him in close proximity with Lauren's spunky sister-in-law Chloe Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson).

Kevin's (Greg Rikaart) self-esteem has taken a beating ever since his eCommerce scheme Tag-n-Grab went bust. How would he react if all of the sudden his breadwinner wife is working late hours with a hunky, successful marketing whiz. Can you say drama?
Lauren will need support if and when her torrid affair with bartender Carmine (Marco Dapper) is exposed. Plus, Scotty's Aunt Christine (Lauralee Bell) needs something to focus on, besides seeking vengeance against Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) over a decade's old fender bender. Speaking of Phyllis, just close your eyes for a second and imagine a love scene between The Staff and Barash. Do I need to say, er, blog more?

The last Scotty was rather clean-cut and preppy. It would be interesting to see BB in that kind of role. He'd probably bring a much harder edge to it.

... yes, at first glance that would be a welcomed addition for sure.

Someone should email this to JFP. She'd fall for it and I would LOVE it.

Y&R has a good cast now. They don't need anymore of the GH rejects. Y&R is not the out-of-work soap actor soup kitchen and shelter.

Screw you, Cartini, for getting rid of this piece of sexy piece of man candy! If you weren't so damn focused on Cartoon Connie and Betty Suarez 2.0, you could have found a VIABLE way to keep Johnny on the canvas.
But, seriously, great casting idea, Jamey!! Brandon has always been a very underrated actor who the show has basically just waffled around with. They could have brought Sarah Brown back as Claudia and explored the mother/son relationship between them, but..............
Now I would just DIE if they cast Sarah Brown on the show now too............but I realize that I am asking for too much!!

I'm sad that BB's leaving GH, and I hope he gives other mediums a try, but it could be interesting seeing him playing a straight up business guy. His first TV role was on Gilmore Girls as an Ivy League kid (there are clips on YT), so I could see him playing someone clean cut.

Sigh...I'm all for Wishful Castings, but come on...once again throw a popular actor into a role just for the hell of it. I can't co-sign this. The character of Scotty would have to be completely revamped for Barash to fit into the role.
I know it's been years since we've seen the wet cheeked Scotty, but I can't usually take jarring recasts with actors that are so different physically and acting wise.
Brandon Barash is an incredible actor (and singer), but I just don't want to see him thrown into other soap roles for the hell of it.
Sorry for the rant, I'm still a little ticked about the "Insert Marcy Rylan" stuff. "AMC is casting a new Phoebe...I know, MARCY RYLAN!"
Enough!

Brandon left GH on his own right? I figure he will want to try his hand at other roles or mediums for a while. If he does return to soaps NGL I want him back as Johnny Z sure he could go to Y&R or B&B but lets be real he wont get as much storyline there as he would on GH.
Or hell I guess he could play Shawn D on Days.

NO WAY! This idea would be taking SORAS too far. Tracey Bregman is 49 years old, Brandon Barash is 34 years old. Plus, Scotty Grainger was born in the early 90s.

Totally agree with you, angrierblackerman! Does the writing staff here give any thought to these Wishful Castings at all?

No, not the actor but he's abit old for Scott but I mentioned on the other post I'm would love him as Phillip Chancellor III come to help his mother Jill ran Chancellor Industries. He's the rightful Chancellor heir. It's only him and his son Phillip IV...that would be good casting.

The previous Scotty wasn't "wet cheeked", it was Blair Redford, who is 29 years old.

Tracey Bregman is 16 years older than Barash. On GH, Kelly Sullivan was one, single, solitary year older than the actor playing her son Trey. I sincerely doubt Cady McClain could be Ryan Bittle's mother or Jacob Young's for that matter. Lauren Koslow and Lisa Rinna likely were at Studio 54 at the same time, but played mother and child. All things considered, 16 years is much better than most parent/child real life age differences on soaps.

They do, I think it's more of wanting to see such talented actors on screen again soon.

VERY TRUE Ms Abbott, but I would much rather be 28 than 82.

It's not just the age, it's also the look. No way that BB was born to TB when she was an adult.

I can see JFP hiring Brandon Barash for any number of roles. He could play Scotty Grainger, Phillip ("Chance") Chancellor IV, or even Dylan's war buddy "Sully", aka Sullivan. Wasn't there a casting notice recently for a sexy businessman named "Connor Boyd"? A perfect part for an FOJ.
I predict if prime time doesn't work out for Brandon, he'll land at Y&R within the year.

I would want Barash all over EH's Chloe. Goodness gracious that would be all types of perfect! YR casting department &/or head of CBS Daytime, make it happen!

Now this could work. Brandon as Scotty and get rid of MR. Non English Speaking Serrucio to pay that bill.

Even though this is a loss for GH, I can actually support this idea
BB is a very talented actor and YR would be happy to get him. And I do wish that he finds a new job soon.

Taking SORASING too far was when Guiding Light's "Leah Bauer" jumped from 2 years old to 14 years old onscreen in the span of 4 episodes.
After that, everything is negotiable.

What took SORASing too far was when they brought the character back in '05 as a man in his mid-twenties. He was born in '93.

According to GH Happenings, "he recently told a group of fans he auditioned for, and was hoping to get, a role in the ABC production, Nashville." The quote is taking directly from the site.

My wishful casting for him would be Alexander Kiriakis on Days. That's the son Justin Kiriakis had with Anjelica Devereaux.
Jane Elliott played Anjelica back then so that would be like poetry.
(Colleen Zenk could gueststar as Anjelica, and Alexander could romance Hope Brady.)
I love this game!

I don't get this sudden fear over SORASing. It's been done before with characters much older than hey should be portrayed by actors older than their characters.
Case in point ... darling little 12 year old Abby Newman is already checking into General Hospital for a face lift!

I want him as Zach Hamilton, brother of Taylor Hayes on B&B. Have him come back to town with his new girlfriend, Bridget Forrester
OR, I could see him as Scotty or Chance. But Chance would definitely need a personality.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... enough with the new characters and the new men!!! How about a woman to come on that would vy for the attention of Jack. Or that would go head to head with Victor in business and Adam in the bedroom! How about a woman who comes on that has a great career, wealth and her own company! A woman who has yet needed a man to hold her up or rescue her.
HOW ABOUT A WOMAN who comes on that makes all the men turn their heads and it's her choice to see which man she will play with, which man she will devour, which man she will manipulate and which man she will call her own!
As for Barash, I think he is tremendous and I have said already that GH was stupid in letting him go and squandering his talents!
But for one thing, he looks too old (even if he is not) to be Lauren's son! I would rather see someone come on who would be closer in age to Kyle if there was going to be anyone. Sure, we've seen him already before and he was a graduate student but if we can see Summer acting like a 15 year old 2 weeks ago to suddenly be 18, then we can see Scotty be 24/5.
NO MORE MEN, though! Give Kevin a real story first or drop the character. Give Devon a meaty story or drop him. Give Kyle a story instead of a teenage crush or even give Mason more story.
We don't need more characters. We need more story.
LOVE Y&R, but don't want to see it miss out on opportunities with the cast it has.
