The Young and the Restless Wins WGA Award For Daytime Drama

Daytime’s No. 1 rated soap, The Young and the Restless, took home the Writers Guild of America Award for Daytime Drama in Los Angeles on February 17. The Y&R team beat out Days of Our Lives and One Life to Live for the award.

According to Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens, who attended the award show, Y&R’s win was for the episode in which Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) shrink Dr. Tim Reid (Aaron Reid) dies in her home.

OMG I can't fathom that MAB actually won something for her horrible Y&R writing smdh.
I think OLTL had better & more enjoyable writing before it was cancelled & that's what should've ultimately won.
B&B's writing was a mess w/ the constant Liam/Steffy/Hopeless saga.
Days could've won for Will's coming out story but I'm not sure if it was nominated.

As a single episode, the episode in which Tim Reid dies isn't that bad. But the overall writing for Y&R has been on the wall since 2010.
Anyway I am much more disappointed about that Emmy Award MAB got in 2011 for her horrible writing. Still can't get over that one.

Depends on what the other shows submitted....and I agree, that episode actually wasn't that bad, even though the show as a whole had hit a creative low point. Like I've always said, MAB had a way to get one REALLY good couple of episodes out there a month, while the rest was pretty bad. I don't REALLY remember this particular episode, but I know i watched and I was entertained by it...so IDK. Not that disappointed in the win, although I think the writing is much improved now and actually may DESERVE an award next year.

Omg...THAT episode? Well, maybe it was a good eppy all around, I don't really remember. I just remember watching the Tim/Phyllis scenes with agony.
Stoney, it is exactly like that. Even though the storyline around it might have been, let's say, questionable, MAB had the talent to create single episodes which were great imo. I.e. Patty shooting Jack, Paul shooting Ricky, the 9.999th episode (the 10.000th was good too but the 9999 was better)...

I don't think ANY awards show is indicative of what we actually see on our screens every day. The worst show out there can come up with at least 1-2 episodes that are passable, but that doesn't mean the other 258 shows that year were worth watching.
I gave up watching award shows, for whatever they represent (acting, directing, etc.), a long time ago. I only watch for the fashions and to see my favorites in a "real-life" setting. It's also fun to see some of them act like their true selves sometimes...remember Eric Braeden at the Emmy's a few years ago? He was the Biggest.Ass.Ever!

OLTL should have won for their last few shows which were some of the best I've seen on daytime. That Y&R episode was almost identical to what GH did earlier, and better, with Luke, Tracy and Heather hiding Anthony Zacharra's dead body. I think Y &R is so much better now,(can't believe I'm saying this because I hated what JFP did to GH the last few years). But, I'm liking what her and Josh G. have been doing and the whole snowstorm story line is terrific!

Be nice to ol MAB. She really did try to use some of our beloved vets... Jill, Katherine, Ashley, Nikki. She really understood the needs of women over 50+ yrs of age (often and gentle).

I'm glad the SHOW won for last year. Definitely not their best year, by far, however she did do some things right.
It is odd that they won for that episode. I do think there were better.
It was just like the time I had to grit my teeth when LML won for "best show" in 2007 at the Emmys. You just never know sometimes.
I think most of us agree that Y and R is on a creative upswing. Maybe they can do a "two-peat" next year.
