Y&R's Daniel Goddard on Alter Ego Cane: "It Drives Him Crazy The Way Tyler Looks at Lily"
By Jamey Giddens on February 15, 2013

For years, the only thing that seemed to stand in the way of Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily's (Christel Khalil) happiness was the Aussie's sketchy, ever-changing backstory on The Young and the Restless. Now a more palpable threat has arisen in the form of gorgeous flirt Tyler Michaelson (Redaric Williams).

In the Feb. 25 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Goddard previews Cane's reaction to Lily once again being caught in close proximity with Ty (They get stranded together during a blizzard!), when she's supposed to be with her husband. Said Goddard:
"Cane admits that it drives him crazy the way Tyler looks at Lily," Goddard says. "She thinks Cane is overreacting and that the whole thing with Tyler is innocent. She tells Cane that there's nothing to worry about."
I don't know about y'all, but methinks Mrs. Ashby doth protest too much!

Well, Lily has no chemistry with either gentleman. Christel Kahlil lacks energy in her every scene and clearly doesn't put the effort into creating chemistry with Redaric Williams (who is sex on a stick!) Can you imagine how hot Lily and Tyler would be if Davetta Sherwood inhabited Lily?
Re: Cane and Chelsea, I think the better story would be Chloe designing fashions and reconnecting with Cane, making Lily jealous. They all have history whereas Cane/Chelsea interactions feel forced. Also, Chloe & Kevin are DOA.

Maybe, it's the way Christel has chosen to play it or maybe it's due to a lack of ability to bring heat to the screen but I don't get even the slightest hint that Lily is attracted to Tyler.

I don't think this is a believable couple either...(Lily and Tyler). Since he was introduced we've been TOLD they'd be together.

^^ This bears repeating. Lily doesn't even register that she finds Tyler at least physically attractive. I blame the actress because the storytelling dictates that there should some attraction as the duo have been placed in close proximity on multiple occasions. The way it's played now, if/when Lily acts on Tyler's advances it will seem out of nowhere. CK is completely flat in her performances. She registered an easy chemistry with Michael Grazedi and at least tries with Daniel Goddard. With Redaric Williams she is not even making the effort.

The only person Khalil has ever had chemistry with was DG. If the producers, for some odd reason, are committed to keeping her on the show and in a romantic pairing, then they should have made Daniel/Lily a long-term couple. As it stands, Lily is a simpering waste of airtime in all of her scenes because she has no plot outside of the men in her life.

I liked how actually Lily & Kevin became friends...so if Kevin\Chloe splits...someone completely different could be interesting twist.

harlee490,, I love your positivity. I always have. But I think putting Kevin and Lily together would be as interesting as watching Esther read the Genoa City telephone directory from cover to cover.
It worked years ago when Kevin was a diseased scumbag and Lily was a virginal young girl but these are two adults that come across as almost asexual now.

@everyone: And that is what some Looneytoon fans flew a blimp for. A person with the talent of a guppy.

@pferrando: This comes down to having the wrong person in the role of Lily. If you had say, Shannon Kane; it would all fall into place. Tyler is a certain type of Brotha who always comes on to women from the moment he meets them. We know this type in the African American community. So the actor is playing him true to form.
What Lily should be doing is saying things like:
"Boy please...."
or
"Flattery will get you nowhere"
and
"I gotta man!"
Instead what we get is someone who has zero ability to develop a character and take a story and run with it when it right there in front of your face. And it is not the writing. Because Josh G. is someone you want in your corner when it comes to writing.
Lily lacks soul or any ump to her. CK brings nothing to the table to make you care about the character either way. And since she is simply on recurring with no contract they need to go ahead and recast. Then on a Friday call out the name of the new actress over intercom they way they did when brought this woman back and axed Davetta Sherwood.
So to you CK fans you to face the facts. The girl can't act. And I don't even find her that pretty. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best) she's about a 6.

They so do not go together. Do the Y&R writers want us to believe that just because Tyler is a man of color that Lily would automatically be his? Abandon her husband and break up her family? Give us more credit than that Y&R please.

@NERescuer: With the right actress it would work 100%. You just need an actress who can act!
The chemistry should work something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xday-cLHtT8

I find nothing wrong with Lily. I thought from the very beginning that she had an amazing chemistry with Cane. I think it comes down to people not liking the actress.

Canes jealousy is very unappealing. People who are secure in their relationship don't act like that. I used to like Cane but he is has gotten very annoying lately.

Josh G should be giving Lily Multiple Sclerosis, instead of Nikki. Then it would be much more believable. I think Lily's best year on The Show was when she had cancer. She handled it pretty well and believable.
Then Josh G could pair Nikki with Tyler, turn Nikki back on to the bottle, and have a Victor-Tyler 'duke it out' in the NewmanE Parking Lot.

SoapA...you're right but Greg's Kevin has been wasted the last few years. I like Greg as an actor but I hate this story for him & Chloe about the money trail. The best scenes lately with Kevin are when he's been in scene with Fen and being a damn good uncle. Chloe's best scenes are when she's with Chelsea...
Houston we have problem...Maybe it's time to write out Kevin.
You know sometimes a writer clicks with characters and sometimes they just don't know what to do with a character and honestly it seems Josh could be in that boat.
As for CK...blah. The better scenes with CK was the other day when she was being bossy toward Tyler...I wonder if a cat o' nine tails and some thigh high boots w\Tyler in the sauna might do the trick

Maybe I missed it but why does Lily suddenly have this dislike and fear of Chelsea? Also, where are the dear twins (or are they off getting older)?

David...my issue really isn't with Lily or the actress that plays her. It's the way this "story" has been written. Not believable.
Lily has always been "bland", I guess, but at least I believe the relationship with Cane.
And trust me...I know there are a lot of Tylers out there, and again, no issues with the actor. He just isn't likable becsuse of the way he's been written since he was introduced.
He's "the guy that's going to break up Lily and Cane". We get it.

Sorry, Harlee490, WHY ON EARTH would lily ever want to become good friends or reconnect with Kevin? Not only did he date her while she was underage, but he gave her chlamydia and torched Gina's restaurant WITH COLLEEN inside because no one liked him!
Sure, Kevin is one of my favorite characters (please see I am being positive here) but to have Lily REMOTELY FIND HIM SEXY WOULD BE A TOTAL DISSERVICE TO the credibility of Lily as a character and as a woman.
Pair Lily with someone else if not Cane or Tyler.
6 February 2012
2 hours 25 min
Cane is not jealous of Tyler because he believes Lily likes him... he is more annoyed at Tyler for hitting on/flirting with and absolutely believing that because he winks and lays it on thick that Lily would fall for him! Cane is more angry that the man is putting the move on another man's woman.
I don't read what Cane is putting out as anything more than anger/frustration and annoyance.
Wish they would just have Cane talk to Devon or have him grab a brew with Billy and open up.
And to all the Khalil haters, I like the actress. I think she does an amazing job. It's the writers that are at fault here because they are writing Lily as though she knows what Tyler is trying to deliver but she just ain't buying it. We've already saw Lily tell him at the GCAC that she has a man, she ain't going for another and for Tyler to move on. That's when Tyler told her she was basically misreading EVERYTHING.

I totally agree, BNT83!!!
I was wondering who was watching Faith since Summer is at Phyllis', Sharon's cavorting with Adam, Nick is worried more about Avery, Noah is somewhere in the storage closet at THE UNDERGROUND, Nikki is confiding in Jack, Victoria is somewhere in her house with Billy and the baby boy, and we all know Victor does not watch any kid!
Also, they keep playing the DJ saying "the streets are closed and the storm is hitting" on the radio but we have Phyllis rushing over to Jack's, Lauren staying late at Fenmore's, Chloe driving over to Chelsea's (who is watching her kid), Neil is making Tyler and Lily work late on a marketing campaign NOT only on valentine's day but during a blizzard, Senator Wheeler is out driving around GC and Jack makes his grounds keeper risk his safety just to drive Nikki home DURING THE WORST PART OF THE STORM.
I am hoping it's more than just a snow storm and that something dramatic comes out of this "big storm". I loved that Nikki confided in Jack about MS but I wished the Jill and Josh used this storm to bring people together realistically. It would have been great to see Victoria and Billy arrive on Jack's doorstep to ride out the storm with their son and put a wrench in Jack's plans with Phyllis with Nikki being there, too. Or Nick had his son and daughters at his house and they were doing family time (still affording Nick the chance to worry over Avery). Or Katherine and Jill stuck in the mansion with Chloe and Kevin and Ester, as well as Gloria and Jeffrey and the hilarity of that situation.
And think of the sweet possibilties if Adam got stuck in the Newman elevator with Victor. it would be nice to see father son bonding until the doors opened and they were back to battle form. (Not a fan of seeing Sharon and Adam go down the path of relationship or hook up and just not staying friends.)
I did love that we saw Mason has a girlfriend! Granted, he's not the most romantic dude around taking her to a nightclub at dinner time. LOL
Storm is just hitting, Y&R fans, so here's hoping!!

Shake things up a bit in Genoa City. Where's Patty when I need her? Anyway...
I think it would have been really somethin-somethin to have Marcus get stuck in the snowstorm with Valerie/Leslie. Then we could have found out exactly what is going on between those two.
Funny, I was totally expecting Noah and Adriana to have a 'snowstorm' story-line. They get trapped somewhere... and then have a banging good time. The problem with their story-line is that it is all back-story and off-screen. Josh G should race these forward in present time by having them consumate this great 'love' they had together in New York City.
One month it looks like Nick and Avery are headed towards maritally-baking bliss. Now Steve Burton has come on-screen, and ruined whatever 'magic' existed between the two. And the forced flash-backs that were stuffed down our throats earlier this week with MacAvery, or is it AveLan, were too contrived. Can I actually say that I feel sorry for Nick Newman? But the 'gold' of Avery has always been her relationship with Phyllis. I do not believe one iota that Jessica Collins as Avery is that interesting of a character to exist without constantly playing off of her. And Jess and Steve on the same screen, yawn-bore.
We're all thinking it, but it's never going to even be brought up? How can Chelsea exist in the same family orbit, with her nephew being her biological son, and NEVER have the situation be brought up? NEVER EVER, not even once. She has NO desire to see Little Johnny? Doesn't keep a photo of him around at all? Doesn't ask Victoria how he is? Auntie Chelsea never gets a visit?
I understand we all have to swallow the 'blue pill' about Villy. I understand that we have to zombie-like believe that 40-yr old Vicky and 30-yr old Billy are the ultimate couple, but I ain't buying it. A gold mine of trouble could be just below the surface, and could liven up a pairing that has become ho-hum and boring (the 2 are fast forward material). I understand that it is close to "The Lucy" s/l, but let's be realistic about Chelsea's motherly feelings, especially someone who has had a miscarriage.
Kevin is being wasted. He's best when he's a nut job.

I'm indifferent to CK, she's been there for a decade now and never one of faves but it is what it is, I prefer DS. CK is there so I don't fret over it and not going anywhere so make the best of it. I just wish CK played her with "some tude coming from Dru". That what I don't get.

This storm has produced some good stories. Just not quite as good as Jill did with GL's blackout. There you had complete opposites, rivals, stuck together...but again it's just started and can still happen.
GL's blackout in '92 was AWESOME and stories it produced in longterm was wonderful.

I totally agree about giving lily some of Dru's toughness. She was raised by dru for a very long time without goody two shoes boring Neil so you would think the writers would make her a little more direct and tough. More of a go-getter.
I like Khalil and I don't think she would have the attitude dru had because that "tude" for dru came from being a run away on the streets. But you would think that she would be a little more direct. Her scene going against what cane wanted in hiring Chelsea was written so saccharin sweet that I wanted Neil to say "lily this is work so cut the crap and answer"
I just think a little tweaking in the "directness factor" for lily will make her more like momma bear dru until the real deal returns!!

I too am indifferefnt to CK. I think she and Cane like Villy work as stable younger couples. I have no problem with Vill's age difference--the men always have younger women so Viki, get your cougar on.

I suspect, that off camera, Chelsea is stealing looks at the baby, just watching. I know it has been brought up.. and I think that she agreed NOT to become involved in the baby's life once she signed the papers, as she was going to leave Genoa City.
I am just surprised that a nanny is always babysitting, never Uncle Jack, Cousin Abby, Summer or Kyle; Grandma Nikki, or god forbid, Grandpa Depends.
They would both need constant diaper changing
