Wishful Casting: Erik Valdez as Hayley and Mateo's Son Enzo Santos on The New All My Children
As Daytime Confidential readers have been aware of since last November, cutie Erik Valdez (ex-Trey) has been let go by General Hospital. The talented, energetic actor and business man (He runs his own graphic design firm!) spoke out about his exit in the Jan. 21 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Said Valdez:
"I can't say that I'm super happy about it, but this is the nature of the industry and I'm by no means bitter about it."
Way to keep a positive outlook! I say, if Prospect Park gets their All My Children reboot off the ground, Valdez would make a perfect, SORASed version of Mateo (Mark Consuelos) and Hayley's (Kelly Ripa) son Lorenzo "Enzo" Santos.
Enzo could move home to Pine Valley to help his Grandpa Adam (David Canary) rebuild Chandler Enterprises, following JR's (Jacob Young) drunken tomfoolery. While in town, Enzo could catch the eyes of Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) now young adult granddaughter Miranda and Miranda's arch rival at Pine Valley University, Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Dixie's (Cady McClain) daughter Kate!

@Jamey Giddens: Naw. He can't act. Let Days be the training ground for models and newbies with not much on their plate. I'd rather have that guy from Guiding Light, EJ Bonilla. Dammit, Jamey lol Bianca is not old enough to have an 18yr old daughter. The only reason that Will flies as Sami's son on DAYS is because they made it a point that she was a teenage mother. Eden Riegel just turned 32 last week lol God willing PP can get her, that's not gonna work. Kate can be SORAS'ed, but if anything, I'd buy Miranda being about 12.

Up to his being let go, I think EV had made a more obvious improvement compared to LM. In their defense, both were put into a story that was just ridiculous from the "Mob Princess Reality Show" end of things. Having said that, while both are charming and quite attractive in person, they are/were in need of some major coaching as to their acting choices and approach to their respective roles. I'm actually disappointed because they've had more than enough access to working with and being able to consistently observe actors like NLG, JE, LC, MB, FH, AH, etc. on a regular basis, whether they were in scenes with them or not. GH has had solid veteran talent doing some very good work in the past few months despite some of the story directions. Both of these kids should have been taking notes, being as they are "still in school"...

Personally, I think they bailed on the Joe Jr story too soon and Trey became superfluous. I think Joe Jr and Tracy could have been a lot of fun, and having his lunk-headedness around while Tracy was battling AJ and Lucy would have been a lot of fun.
Perhaps tptb listened to the message boards to the show's own detriment.

Just don't give him any crying scenes........poor baby can't handle those! He did do a DECENT job in every other department, though. But then again, Mark Consuelos was never gonna win any major acting awards on AMC, so I can see him playing his son onscreen!!

I didn't think that EV was bad on GH. For being a part of the younger scene (which is rarely known for powerhouse acting) he did a serviceable job. He was a helluva lot better an actor than the girl playing Kristina.

Huh??!?! The younger scene on GH has always been known for their strong actors...until recently. Just a refresher of the youngsters on GH that gave great performances when they were teens or early 20 somethings.....Kimberly McCullough/Robin, Michael Sutton/Stone, Jonathan Jackson/Lucky, Amber Tamblyn/Emily, Rebecca Herbst/Liz, Tyler Baker/Nikolas, Vanessa Marcil/Brenda, Sarah Brown/Carly, Drew Garret/Michael, Scott Clifton/Dillon, Lexi Aylesworth/Kristina and Julie Marie Berman/Lulu.
The GH casting department for years was pretty solid at finding talented young actors. It seems that in the past couple of years that they have hired some duds with Chad Duell, Kristen Alderson, Lindsay Morgan & Valdez.

Erik Valdez is one of the better Newcomers to go to GH! He can act, and I bet he will pop up in movies of Prime or something. I don't peg him for a soap4life actor.
I would love to see him as Enzo, or maybe a kid of Benny Sago? Wonder how far they are going to dig down for the show?

Hayley should be recast but Jensen Buchanan is a bit old for the role. She is in her early 50s and has an even more mature quality about her. I think Erin Hershey from PC would be a good Hayley.
