Frank Valentini on GH's One Life to Live Characters: “We’re Trying to Work it Out”
Since news broke that Prospect Park was renewing their plans to revive One Life to Live, fans have been wondering what this could mean for the three former Llanview residents currently residing in fictional Port Charles, New York on General Hospital. In an interview with TV Guide, Frank Valentini addressed the possible conflict.
TV Guide Magazine: With Prospect Park now reviving One Life to Live, which you executive produced in its final days, there are reports that they have first rights to the characters of John McBain and Todd and Starr Manning, who you've now successfully integrated into the Port Charles canvas. Should we be worried they'll all have to say goodbye?
Valentini: Right now we're trying to work it out. I can't really say because the lawyers are doing their thing. Our hope is that we'll be able to continue what we're be doing.

I completely agree! The characters are have settled into Port Charles.
Have mixed emotions of PP starting OLTL back up again as the ending was perfect.
In a perfect world, I would love to see Blair and Tea back on GH along with Viki somehow taking over ELQ and battle Tracy.

I think PP is going to need all the power it can get to make these shows come back to life. These characters are alive and well and fresh in the viewers minds in Port Charles. Dont think for one second that PP isnt thinking the same thing Frank thought when OLTL went off the air and he brought there characters over to GH to save the show when it was about to tank. PP will fight tooth and nail to bring these characters back into the OLTL fold in an effort to bring some of the GH audience that now knows these characters. General Hospital has plenty of rich history and characters to pull from, as good as these OLTL characters were on GH for this period of time, I think they should be back on OLTL in an effort to bring these show back into there former glory. These actors and characters are a big draw for OLTL's audience and history. If these reboots stand any chance of success, they are going to need these characters.

Send the OLTL characters back to PP. I really want to see what RC wrote for his PP bible as it pertains to the two Todd's story and hope that TSJ (Victor Lord, Jr.) is along for the ride.
GH has its own rich history of characters so let them bring back Scotty Baldwin, Dr. Jeff Webber, Dr. Tommy Hardy, Jr., Leslie, Audrey, etc..

This is going to be interesting to watch. There is a reason why Cartini brought over those specific characters, and PP is likely to begin with the Two Todds story. Maybe if PP is using the telenovela format, they will be able to work in the same universe and the actors/characters go back and forth.
Personally, I don't really care if they stay or go. I am just intrigued by all of the backstage shenanigans.

Todd & John are the only characters that PP would want back. Starr was leaving Llanview when the show went off the air.
A John/Natalie reunion and the solving of Victor's "death" is the way they should go to relaunch.

Roger Howarth has been a great addition but GH's cast is large. I'd rather have Ingo Rademacher back as a love interest for Carly and to mix it up at ELQ.

I never watched OLTL until it's final days since I had heard about some of the characters coming over to GH. I don't want Todd, Starr, and John to go back to Llanview. Todd adds comic relief that we haven't seen for a while, I'd hate to see Michael lose yet another girlfriend after all he's been through, and John could have a relationship with Sam, since reality is finally setting in that Jason's gone. I'd rather these people on than some random new characters. If ever it becomes necessary, maybe there could be some sort of cross-promotional agreement, where there are crossovers to support each other's shows.

Just a guess but Im thinking they will work something out where they tell the tomas is lorenzo story on gh and part of that teases the beginning of the tale of two todds and that story will begin on oltl. My thinking is akin to appleridge, they will work something out where some of these characters are shared.

Court Im so glad I found someone who also loves the backstage goings on. They interest me far more than the onscreen stories. I for one hope the One Lifers hit the road. I dont like the idea of Cartini trying to continue One Life on GH.
As far as PP goes I'm not invested in that. I was done with One Life and AMC years before they ended. I hope it works for those longing fans, but personally it means little to me. But Ive always followed the behind the scenes drama and this is even better than when AMC and OLTL got the ax in the first place, lol.
I'm learning so much about the legal ramifications and everything that is takes to produce a soap and get it on the air. And you are so correct about the Todd vs Victor story. PP would be absolutely stupid to try to restart One Life without beginning with that story. Without RH and TSJ there's no way to tell that story. And without that story One Life will fall flat on Viki's booty, lol.

How can the One Life reboot do the Victor Lord JR story without Roger? And that's the main story that One Lifer's want to see. Victor's being alive was on of that show biggest cliff hangers ever.
And it would be really lame to play that story without RH's Todd. That storyline needs to be resolved. If PP doesnt get RH or TSJ the One Life reboot will undoubtedly crash and burn.

I want the One Lifer's gone because Cartini's desire was never to integrate them as GH characters. His agenda was to use them to gain displaced One Life viewers and then to continue the unresolved One Life stories.
A traditional cross over is bringing on certain characters to play out one story that temporarily joins two shows.
That was done successfully between GH and OLTL in the late 60s with Steve Hardy and Meridith Lord. It was also done great when Sheila Carter went from YR to B+B. It was also done excellently between AMC and OLTL with the Bianca Baby switch story. But the reason is because at the time of all these crossovers neither show had been cancelled.
Cartini want to obviously continue One Life's unfinished business on GH. And that's not fair to the former One Life viewers or the current GH viewers who never watched One Life and have nothing invested in those characters.
And besides that the One Lifers will never be fully integrated because the grieving One Life viewers wont let it happen.
We cant have Sam and McBain because the rabid One Lifers keep complaining about Natalie and baby Liam. We cant have Todd and Carly because the grieving One Lifers will want Todd and Blair. We cant move on with Michael and Starr because Carlavati has to keep beating to death the who killed Cole and Hope drama. Enough! I say lets ship all three out of town. The actors with the exception of Kris Alderson as Starr have been very good. But the One Life fans wont let them move on with PC lives. Ive had it. Send them packing by GH's 50th and maybe then Cartini can give up their sneaky plan to create a hybrid show and concentrate on GH alone. It's been almost a year, its about time! Geez!
