Fang Bangers, Port Charles Style: General Hospital Revisits Caleb, Livvie and Lucy's Vampire Saga!
By Jamey Giddens on January 09, 2013

From the moment John McBain (Michael Easton) first crossed paths with Samantha McCall Morgan (Kelly Monaco) the pair had the sense that they had known each other before; perhaps in another life? Starting January 14, General Hospital will begin exploring an arc questioning whether FBI agent-turned-cop McBain and P.I. McCall are really their Port Charles' alter egos — vampire rocker Caleb Morley and his bitch goddess beloved Livvie!

TV Guide's Michael Logan has the scoop on what happens when former vampire slayer Lucy Coe first spies John:
She completely freaks and screams, "Caleb!" says head writer Ron Carlivati. "Later Kelly's character, Sam, comes out of the ladies room and Lucy think it's Livvie." Lucy goes into full slayer mode and stabs John. He's rushed to the hospital. She ends up in the slammer.
Oh, this is gonna be fun! Hey, and on a side note, Caleb Morley isn't a character licensed by Prospect Park...

Actually PC was actually the #1 soap on ABC in a lot of their markets accoring to Brian Gaskill who played Rafe. What hurt PC is that not all ABC channels carried it at the end.

Port Charles was before its time yes it was campy with its vampires but you know what Tru Blood is just as bad but its on HBO so it has more blood/gore/sex.

From what I remember wasn't Tess like the "good" version of Livvie? Even Tess fell in love with Caleb showing the audience that good/bad Livvie loved Caleb completely and not Jack?
Jesus how am I able to remember all this but I can't remember how to multiply fractions without a calculator LOL

It's shows their appreciation of ONE aspect of the soap genre: camp. It certainly doesn't show an appreciation for the rich history of great and believable and groundbreaking stories that aired on so many shows before execs began to destroy soaps' integrity. I'm thrilled for campy soap lovers. Thinking soap lovers are still in the doghouse.

It's also a show that told heartbreaking and ground breaking stories. It's also a show that used to know the difference between comedy and camp. Clearly, this regime favors the freeze the world GH. Kudos to them. But let's not forget that GH has been much more than that.

I think people are jumping the gun. Relax. Just a teaser has been dropped. Nothing major reporter yet. Don't freak out about "camp" invading the show yet!
Also, just so I am clear: We can remember and address that Lucy carried Dominque and Scott's baby, Married Alan in a Red Dress, ended up half naked in almost every Nurse's Ball Finale, but not that she was a "Vampire Slayer"? Like it or not, that is part of Lucy Coe's History. Also, that is not ALL PC was about in its final years. It still had a lot of traditional soap in it.
Soaps are filled with Camp.
Marlena being possessed on DAYS
The Weather Machine on GH
Erica almost being attacked by a bear on AMC
Sperm Stealing on Y&R
Every episode of B&B
Eterna on OLTL.
And those examples are just the tip of the iceberg.

Unfortunately, GH also has the threat of cancellation.

jcmellencamp78....forgot the worse one GL's cloning of Reva...puke gag and I'm a Lighter but HATED that story. Only true bright spots were Robert Newman and Kim Zimmer turning shiz into gold! Also the discovery of Bethany Joy Lenz.
Thank Paul Rauch for that mess...not being disrespectful of his passing but he was so over rated. His best work was with AW and Harding LeMay.

What more do you want? They just brought back Genie Francis for heavens sake. Do you want someone else to die and give there heart away? I'm serious I mean damn this show can't win with some people.

Hahaha who could forget!! But see, you remember the good and the bad! Not every story will win over everyone. I think we have to take the good with the bad and sit back and enjoy the ride.

100% agree!! The people who complain about this probably were the ones that complained when the unholy trio dominated the show for 10 years!!!

We could also list the number of groundbreaking stories soaps have told. And yes, believable ones. Once again, leaving out soap history to support your preference for campy soap is unnecessary. If you like camp, you've had plenty to love on GH this year. For those of us who prefer a more believable heartfelt soap, we have youtube of ATWT and GL in their heydays, AMC when ABC allowed Nixon to have control, and yes even GH during its creative heydey when they told stories with as much humor as they had heart.
And btw, I'd consider Lucy in red dress at her wedding comedy and not camp. Ditto for Lucy and Sigmund the duck or Kevin and Mac dressing up as women. Comedy. Not camp. BIG difference. And Lucy stripping at the Nurses' Ball is as far away from camp as GH's current regime is from believability.

Soapfan, I remember the heartfelt stories. Love them as much as the camp/comedy. Soaps have been known to have a mix of both is all I was trying to say. When GH was all dark and mob-driven, did you enjoy all that? If you did, I'm sorry the new version of GH isn't your cup of tea. The last version certainly wasn't mine!

Glad we agree on something. The Guza/Phelps GH was a misogynistic hot mess that not only stretched believability but also made me want to throw my shoe at my TV screen.

Hahah! Exactly! While OBVIOUSLY vampires aren't real, at least I know they weren't trying to convince me of that on PC. Guza and Phelps desperately wanted me to believe that these mobsters had hearts of gold!!

GH is head and shoulders above what it once was. It still has a ways to go and sadly it means bringing a few key people back from the dead and correcting the wrongs it did to Brenda, Lucky and Laura.
I am excited for the next three months of GH and all the stars that will grace our screens. I am all for a short arcs and stories that revolve around a few guest stars throughout the year while adding to a rich cast of characters. Folding the stories in seamlessly will add more balance and provide a greater continuity.
The one thing PC did wonderfully was the short arcs. They gave us a true beginning and ending of a story. My favorite GH story was the Metro Court Hostage. Not for the storyline exactly but the time line. My favorite GH storylines were LL2 and Stone/Robin. But for pacing and giving us the end in sight it was February sweeps 2007. If Soaps could get more into the arcs and give us a solid 12-13 weeks of story with some awesome vets highlighted while giving us a few key vets and talented stars always there GH could kill. They need to really think Night Shift!

Another reason why I haven't been watching: this is it. This all sounds lame and boring. I too think it's just a way to make Lucy look stupid.

Cartini strikes again with lame idiotic teenaged stories! I will definitely be tuning this junk out. I swear this regime has turned me off to GH almost as much as the last round of Guza Frons and Phelps.
I dont give a tinkers damn how many people praise them, Cartini are lame hacks and mark my word they are going to destroy GH. I wont sit around watch them do it. I will continue to tune out and turn off the DVR. Ill watch my youtube clips and remember GH when it was quality. This is sad.

I'm happy to see anything using the history of Port Charles and won't pass judgement until I see it. Maybe Lucy can vanquish some of the haters from this site. That would really make my day!

Comparing Port Charles to True Blood is like comparing a D student to Einstein. Before its time? Give me a break. ABC was so desperate to save PC from its dismal ratings that they were willing to go the supernatural route and the show fell flat on its face.
If you want a true Gothic soap you need to refer back to the classic 1960s and 70s Dark Shadows. That was a true Gothic Horror serial that was cast with daytime greats. The show has been off the air for decades now and it still remains a cult classic because it was quality. Port Charles was a ridiculous bunch of hogwash thrown together in desperation.
True blood, though a gory bloody mess, is a well written gothic serial developed from a good novel. It never ceases to amaze me how soap viewer accept whatever garbage the networks through their way. SMH.

Hmm, some "fans" think that vampires are unrealistic and "stupid" but these same people claim to have psychic powers that enable them to know exactly how this story will play out...

Again, I will bring up the point that FV/RC are doing anything they can to save GH. All this negativity on this board is WHY soaps are failing. Everyone is a critic.
