BREAKING NEWS: NBC Officially Renews Days of Our Lives!
The citizens of Salem, U.S.A. will live to fight another season! NBC has renewed Days of Our Lives through Sept. 2014. NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke announced the news today, two days ahead of DAYS' 12,000th episode set to air this Friday.
“We are thrilled to announce that Days of Our Lives is not going anywhere. It is NBC's longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television,” said Salke in a press release. “We commend Ken Corday and the entire creative team on continuing to keep the stories and characters fresh, exciting and relevant year after year.”
DAYS, which is co-owned by Corday Productions and Sony Pictures Television, has been a part of the Peacock's daytime lineup since its premiere in 1965. Sony TV's Prexy Steve Mosko praised the soap's "dedicated fan base" when discussing the renewal.
"Days of Our Lives has maintained a loyal and dedicated fan base for more than four decades and continues to reach a new generation of viewers,” said Mosko. “We appreciate NBC’s support over the years and, as the show celebrates this significant milestone, we are thrilled that the show will continue to be a part of the NBC family.”
Ken Corday—whose parents, the late Ted and Betty Corday, created the sudser—also weighed in on the news.
“After so many years in the homes and hearts of our loyal fans, I’m both humbled and elated to say it’s 2013 and we’re still going strong,” said Corday. “I am equally proud that the sense of family which my mom and dad established in our show 48 years ago, is still what drives it today. As we celebrate our 12,000th episode with an amazing cast and great support from our network, we look forward to what’s yet to come!”

Kenik - The only way to save the whole Will/Sonny/Gabi/Nic debacle is to make Sonny a bi-sexual. This marriage to Nic with Gabi reeks of 'teen spirit', and is a trifle boring. Making Will actually wanting Gabi is the only way to save that story-line. Who'd have thunk that they could turn Will into Mr Boring?
Setting up a Gabi/Will/Sonny triangle wold be interesting to say the least, and better than it is now.

Congrats for Days, although a one year renewal is very cautionary. It sounds by fans posts on here, that they are not happy...and the ratings are not strong or moving in a positive direction.
The good thing is that it gives them some more time to address the issues and get the ratings to inch up.
NBC needs them on their daytime "line up".

Don't count on Eileen doing double duty at both Days and Y&R.
Besides, there's some news on the Ashley Abbott front. Y&R's producers are seriously, and I mean SERIOUSLY considering bringing former Ashley portrayer, Brenda Epperson back to Y&R. There is a huge push on Facebook and twitter to bring Brenda back to Y&R. Jerry Douglas (John Abbott) mentioned to Brenda on blogtalkradio.com that the producers were getting pretty serious about contacting her to take over the role. Jack (Peter Bergman) does need his sister right about now. With Abby coming back, it's high time that Ashley and Traci all made their way back to GC to help Jack get over his addiction to pain killers.

@IOWAHAWKEYE I would not lump BB in with the rest of that bunch. He was on the show before any of them, he was introduced as a Horton right from the get-go, and he has a legacy as one half of Chelsea/Nick - one of the more popular young couples of the mid-to-late 2000's. Furthermore, unlike those others he has always been a fan favorite.

I am just thrilled to know I will get to continue to watch the soap! Hopefully, creatively, the show improves.
There are still some great things going on about DOOL! Kristen is crazy, Marlena & John are getting decent airtime, Maggie/Victor are still sweet together, and the show hasn't tossed Will and Sonny to the curb once the ratings declined.

It is good to know that a soap i have watched on and off for many years has been renewed. But there are ways in which it can be more watchable.
1. Scrap the 3 month shooting schedule, if stories are tanking then it takes so long fo a turn around.
2. write better stories
3. Let sami pick, one man, don't care which and stay with him.
4. no more sami babies,
5. most important stop the incessant and blatant propping of the sainted DR. lOVE, Who is praised to the high heavans by everyone, save Lucas and we all know how much airtime he gets.
6. bring back the real Jennifer, not the shrew who berated jack since the unlamented reboot and now is a dithering insecure woman who only exists for daniel's attention and approval. her daughter abby, acts more mature than her.

Happy to hear they're getting at least one more extension but major parts of this show still need fixing. Right now, Eileen Davidson is almost singlehandedly steering this ship(though I'm kinda glad they've brought Sami into the mix to tell slow Brady about himself)and for the most part I still like WilSon, despite the fact that they're being saddled in a storyline with the show's two most irredeemable characters. And making Will bi would frankly be a cop out not to mention it wouldn't save that story; what'll save it is killing Gabi's ass right off our screen(with Nick followed close behind). That said, I do like the potential of an Abigail/Chad rematch and I also like that they seem to be attempting--at least a little--to fix Nicole after a storyline that just about ruined the character; Ari Zucker deserves so much more than pining after Maggie's egg baby and I wouldn't even mind if they paired her with Rafe(who, unlike most viewers, I actually like). Lastly, since Jennifer is now so in love with Daniel--who apparently has more magic in his rod than fellow man whore Nick Newman ever dreamed about--then marry them off tommorrow and get them off our screens.

Kenik had a great idea: Bring Back Lexie but have her be a vixen again. Love it!! My ideas: Hope and EJ are a new couple. No more Daniel or Rafe please. Kristin and Eric hook up causing Marlena to team up with Nicole ( I did hear the Kristin/Eric thing may happen). Recast Belle, Shawn D and Phillip. Nicole's baby is alive..and being raised by Kristin

congrats Days of Our lives...i guess Ken Corday will go back to the golf course until 2014 when he will do something about this horrible show...things this show needs to do
1) a writer that knows the show and history and what the fans want to see
2) get rid of the daniel/jen/rafe/sami show
3) weave characters from the past into storylines (look at Gh) and look at its ratings
4) Characters that need to return Bo Brady/Jack Deveraux/Peter Blake/Laura Horton/Bill Horton/Carrie Reid/Susan Banks/and Stefano (without Austin/Peck if anything) repopulate that Horton house why did Jennifer get it and not Marie her daughter??
do you guys just want me to write the show cause I would do it for free
