General Hospital: Perkie's Observations

It's New Year’s Eve in Port Charles, and the townspeople are busy preparing for midnight. Sabrina arrives at Patrick's to babysit Emma for the night. Milo is helping Spinelli prepare for his date with Ellie on the hospital rooftop.  Lulu checks in on Maxie, who reassures her everything is fine. Olivia has another vision of the puppy, this time sitting on the bar at The Haunted Star.   Michael takes Starr to the hospital, and Britt agrees to run some tests to check for head trauma.

Michael calls Dante to inform him Connie attacked Starr, and took off with Johnny in her trunk.  Dante puts out an APB on Connie, and updates Olivia and Lulu on the situation.

Trey tells Connie he’s leaving town, and she admits to doing the same. Before Connie can leave, Kristina hears mysterious noises coming from the trunk of her car. Connie claims it’s just mice, but Trey asks her to open the trunk anyway.

Maxie’s surprised to see Ellie hanging around the apartment.  Ellie declares she and Spin are through, because she doesn’t come first with him.  Maxie apologizes for taking Spin away on Christmas Eve, but admits Spin is the happiest she’s seen him in years. She doesn’t want Ellie to leave Spin hanging.  Ellie decides she’ll meet Spin for the date.

Spin worries Ellie won't show for their date, but Milo tries to convince him otherwise.  Milo agrees to help show Spin some moves, while Spin gets drunk on Peppermint Schnapps.

Todd wonders why Carly invited him to celebrate at The Haunted Star, since it’s Johnny’s place.   Carly wants Johnny to see that she’s moved on with a new man.  Todd is perfectly fine with her using him to get to Johnny.

Emma’s thrilled to be hanging out with Sabrina, but worries about Britt becoming her new mommy. She confesses to not liking the doctor, and would prefer Sabrina take on the mother role.   Sabrina says Robin was a wonderful person, but she can’t take her place.

Carly congratulates Lulu on the baby news.  Dante inform Todd of Connie's attack on Starr, and kidnapping of Johnny.   Todd checks in with Starr, who assures her father she's fine. She also makes him promise not to go after Connie. Carly’s upset she didn’t realize Connie was lying about Johnny not being home. Todd mentions being over Blair, and asks Carly to look forward to the future with him.

Connie pretends she can’t open the trunk and jumps into the car, as Michael and Starr arrive.  Connie takes off, and Starr realizes Johnny is in the trunk. The four quickly follow Connie, in an effort to rescue Johnny. As they try to catch up to Connie, Starr mentions they’re traveling on the same road where she lost her family.

Patrick congratulates Lulu on the pregnancy.  Dante asks Olivia about the vision, and she becomes upset over seeing the dog again.

Ellie has car trouble, and difficulty getting her cell phone to work.

Maxie hears noises at her door, and opens it to find the puppy. Maxie tries to find the owner, but the dog runs in and sits on the couch. Maxie trips on her carpet, and falls. She attempts to get up, but experiences some pain. She worries, and heads to the hospital. Britt examines her and determines she's had a miscarriage.

Ellie is walking in the middle of the street, when Connie's car comes flying around the curve.  Ellie panics when Connie's car heads straight for her. Suddenly, Connie crashes her car, as does Michael and the rest of the group behind her.

For me, soaps are for escapism and pure entertainment. Sure, we nitpick, but that's part of the fun. However, if I quit watching soaps whenever something implausible happened, I would have tuned out a week or so into watching The Edge of Night back in the late 60s.

As someone who grew up reading Marvel Comics, I always found they were exactly the same as soaps. Continuing storylines, over-the-top plots, people coming back from the dead, changing their appearance, etc. Let's face it, we're not watching Shakespeare (although it could be argued some of his stuff was pretty looney tunes, too)! With all the "reality" on TV these days I much prefer a well-spun yarn like GH has become under this regime! Go back and read Dickens or Dumas - it's all plot driven and implausible but TOTALLY entertaining. The plots on GH are no different. It's not lowbrow when it's done this well.

How many women that just suffered a miscarriage is looking to bang her ex-boyfriend less than two hours later? Puzzled

There was a time that Maxie was all about fashion and working for Kate Howard, now she's whining about Spinelli (blech) and volunteering to be a surrogate for Lante.

I don't mind suspending belief for a soap story. I watch them for the silly out there stories involving characters I care about. I can take silly soapy things especially when it is to fix a mistake- like bringing some one back from the dead.. However thinking of Maxi and Spin having sex after she has a miscarriage is just icky. To boot having poor Ellie (the only new character I like) being ran over while it happens is just double yuck. I love KS and the character of Maxie but this story does not make me root for them one bit.. I hope they send Ellie over to Johnny!!

This Sabrina/Patrick/Britt triangle is not working for me at all.they should throw AJ and Liz into the mix.Ithink Liz and Patrick could make a good couple and I really think AJ needs to be romantically linked with women who have not had Jason climb their back.
Britt and AJ could start a secret sex buddies relationship while Patrick continues to take it slow with her; Patrick can let Sabrina know, with all certainty that he doesn't see her in a romantic way while at the Ashe time growing closer with Liz over their both losing the person they loved; AJ would then have a little meet cute with Sabrina that leads to him looking at her innocence and virtue as a way for him to be a better man all the while he is humping Britt like a rabid bunny.

DUMB! The best they can come up with for the accident: is Elle walking in the middle of a dark street looking for a cell phone connection? Maxie and Spin having sex at the sametime is just gross.

I think there's great potential for high drama with Connie turning back into Kate just in time to say goodbye to Trey. Starr's going to go on a rampage with Johnny AND Todd! Is Carly going to be Todd's latest enabler, or will she let him have it, too? How severe are Ellie's injuries? Will Spinelli feel obligated to care for her during her convalescence, as well as feeling guilty for implanting a mini-Jackal in Max-maintenance? There's a lot that I'm looking forward to happening out of this crash!

Considering there was a automobile-crash involving several featured players, I found the whole thing dreadfully dull. The only person I was concerned about was poor Ellie and found her scenes compelling. I really, really care about the character and reacted to my television set as she laid injured. Everyone else could have died and I would not have batted an eyelash, probably would have cheered.

I think Todd/Carly are hot as hell. Laura Wright has never looked more beautiful in her time on GH. I wish they styled Carly better and she'd get a cute haircut.
